Someone, anyone, if you know where there is an open gas station in Houston somewhere. Southwest side preferebly. Thanks. And if you want to know, yes, I'm leaving tomorrow, but I won't get very far on half a tank, even if it can take me a hundred miles, it really means I'll just last 2 hours in the 5 mile per hour traffic.

Maybe try calling 311? They might be able to help you locate a gas station that is still open.

i'd say even possibly call 911, this might be info during an emergency situation theyll have. maybe even consider calling the HQs of major gas companies in your area, maybe they can point you on information.

Also make sure you pay a few extra gas cans or maybe some milk jugs with you and fill them with gas. You never know.

Its both illegal and extremely unsafe to fill milk jugs with gas, but if you don't have anything else take the risk and be safe.

because since Rita is heading their way, all the gas supply runs out fast with people trying to flee the city, plus no trucks are gonna head that way to refuel them. So put two and two together.

equest, also try calling 211. Apparently the city has set up a special number for evacuation information, they also might be able to help.

Also try the Houston Chronicle forums, somebody there might be able to help!

Thanks for the replies ya'll. CAGs are definitely the most polite message board crew on the web. And Chris, don't worry about wondering why gas is high, I didn't even know that Rita was coming until probably mid-day yesterday (Tuesday) and I live in Houston. No newspaper + not watching TV will do that to me I guess. Thanks again everyone.

Some gas stations may be closed, but have Pay at the Pump, I can't confirm this, but I'd recommend checking online or calling the numbers CAG's provided. Be safe!

That's awesome.

Seriously though, good luck getting out, I'm sure most local authorities will try to get you to just take a bus, carpool or get as far as you can... which is my advice, get out as far as you can, and then start looking for gas stations, I'm sure half a tank is enough to get you through at least a 2 hour drive from the city, there has to be a gas station somewhere by then.
