Hmmm....I've definitely been thinking about getting Tivo. I suppose I could use $100 of clothes....how much is it to buy the lifetime of service to Tivo? (I'd rather not have another monthly fee on top of the things I already have...)

http://www.tivo.com/2.3.asp
Monthly $12.95
Lifetime $299

It does not mention if you get a $38.85 credit towards the lifetime because of the three free months.

It also is not clear if you are bound by the 12-month contract that newer TiVos are being bound by if you cash in their $150 rebate. The TiVo forums concluded that you were not bound, but until you see the fine print its up in the air.

Personally I bought $200 worth of clothes and will be sending a TiVo to my folks.

If your cable company offers a DVR get that instead of a TiVo. TiVo lifetime membership is like $300 or something but who knows how long they will be around and they have the right to discontinue the TiVo model you bought a lifetime membership for. That said, it's $12 per month so if you can squeeze out two years with a lifetime membership you will come out ahead...

Well, I live in a dorm...so the DVR option is out the window. Plus, when I went back home in the summer, I'd put the Tivo to use at my sister's house, because at my house...we get a whopping four channels! (Would I be able to pick up and move the Tivo to different places like that? School to my sister's house...back to school?)

Wow, sounds like a great deal. I wasn't really looking for clothes but it can't hurt.
I'll really have to think this one over quickly. Thanks OP.

Wow. Thanks OP. I will definitely have to think about this. I am the worst at buying clothes. i.e. I hate it. I always wait until they are completely worn out, and by that time, I usually get some for Christmas (that's not the reason I wait... I just hate buying clothes). But it's about time I got some. And I need a TiVo, or something like it. $300 is not bad for a lifetime, or even anything over two years...

But I know nothing of TiVo, so I'm of no help to you, Rig...

Ahhh, dorm.... yeah, then I'd go for it. I think you can move the TiVo no problem. You might have to call them to switch the service to a new location but otherwise it's just like any other piece of AV equipment...

I didn't really read the fine print, but I would assume they need the original sales receipt...which you (most likely) have to send in to receive your Tivo...so I would believe you cannot return the stuff...

are tivos 50 or 100 bucks now in stores?
if 50 bucks then the deal isn't worth it.
an extra 50 bucks worth of crappy clothes I don't need.

Send the original receipt for the Tivo, return the clothes with a copy.

The 40-Hour TiVo is $200 with a $150 mail-in rebate (which requires a 12 month TiVo contract).

Dockers are also decent clothes and shoes for the price.

Bottom line, it is a good deal for anyone thinking about getting a TiVo. If after three months you dont like the service you can always eBay the TiVo untit.

I'm pretty sure someone has thought of that and won't allow the return without the TiVo.
