From cube.ign.com's Top Ten Reasons to Wait for Revolution:

#8. 360 Doesn't Have Legend of Zelda
We don't want to dwell on the obvious, but it is an important point, especially since you're reading a Nintendo-centric channel and not a Microsoft one. Xbox 360 may have a lot of things going for it, but the platform doesn't have The Legend of Zelda franchise -- and it never will. If you want to control series hero Link in an all new home console adventure, you can only do it with Nintendo Revolution. And the same is true for all of Nintendo's major games, from Mario to Pikmin, F-Zero and Kid Icarus. You can only find them on one next generation platform and it's not Xbox 360. Considering that millions of gamers have stayed loyal to the Big N through the years simply because they adore these characters and franchises, you'll definitely want to consider this point when planning your next hardware purchase.

I read this paragraph over several times and can't come to a conclusion as to whether the article refers to playing Kid Icarus for NES on the Revolution's 'virtual console' concept or a brand-new next generation game. The immediate preceding sentence speaks of controlling Link in an 'all new home console adventure' so taken together, ign seems to imply there is a new Icarus in development. Is this just wishful thinking on my part or does what I'm thinking make sense?

I would say it refers to downloading the NES game, but I guess its open for debate. My reasoning is the only one of those four games that is confirmed for Rev is Mario. I haven't heard anything about a Pikmin or F-Zero on Rev.

Kameo looks like a ripoff of zelda (opinion based on screenshots). They even have a ripoff of his horse.

IGNcube: Will you make Kid Icarus for Revolution?

Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, I'm actually working really closely right now with the director of the [original] game. Now, whether or not when we get the Revolution all set up and everything is finalized, well who knows? That might be one of those characters where everybody says, "Hey, with the way our console is designed, that would be a perfect match." My question to you is, if we made this game would you buy it?

IGNcube: Absolutely.

Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, we obviously can't ignore that. Okay, we'll get the Eggplant Wizard coming back.

It was more or less conversation. Kid Icarus is not announced.

I'm kind of on the fence with this one. I played Kid Icarus on the NES way back when, but I'm not sure if I wanna play that game again. I remember it being pretty damn hard... maybe if they offer a difficulty setting that takes it down a notch, I'd give it a try.

Well, it was one of those games that was just unnecessarily hard back in the early NES days. I don't think we'd have to worry about that much anymore. Generally they're too easy more often than too hard.

Lol about the difficulty. I remember watching my older brother beat kid icarus dozens of time from like 6 to 10 years old. I always loved watching him play when I was little, then got mad when he wouldn't let me play when I was older. Now I dominate both my brothers. Anyways, they really loved that game. I finally beat it when I was 18 after years and years of trying. Still never matched my oldest brothers 7 times in one day though. And probably never will. If they make a new kid icarus I will officially have a reason to buy a revolution.

Wasn't Pikmin 3 slated as a launch title? If it is, that along with SSB will be the best launch ever.

Since when is being too hard a valid excuse to not want a game? For that matter Kid Icarus (NES or GB) wasnt THAT hard.

I for one would love to have Pit on the Revolution. Not that I needed a reason to get one anyways...

Not so sure SSB will be a launch title. I hate sounding like I'm making stuff up, but it was in... IGN I think, they hadn't even picked the director (the guy who worked on the first two SSBs) when they were touting it as the launch title at E3. So before posting this, I will just find the article so it sounds mildly intelligent.

well I guess it depends on when they planning on releasing a console. They talked to the guy after E3 which was may so they could have it made by the time the system comes out which is at least May.

Alright then. I'll call Mr. Iwata and tell him we also want Ghouls-N-Ghosts on the Revolution... y'know, for the kids and for the grandparents.

I appreciate a challenge, but I'm getting old and cranky and don't have the time to sit around replaying a level 50 times to beat it, and then repeat that for every damn level of the game.

Don't get me wrong, Kid Icarus might turn out to be awesome on the Rev... I'm just saying I'm not too stoked on it right now. A Duck Hunt remake, on the other hand, would be a great launch title. Maybe with DS connectivity so the dog in the game could be your Nintendog...

(Thank you! Thank you! I'll be at the bar if anybody wants to pelt me with rotten tomatoes!)

Many games featuring Nintendo's classic franchises, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Super Smash Brothers, Pokémon, and Donkey Kong, have been announced. Nintendo has also announced that it is in the process of developing an entirely new and original franchise to be added into the Nintendo universe, although all other details about this project are unknown at this time. It has been speculated that the new franchise might be more mature than most previous Nintendo games. Square Enix is working on a sequel Crystal Chronicles title, Ubisoft is releasing Splinter Cell 4 on all major consoles including Revolution, and has announced an exclusive FPS and an another non exclusive game. The exclusive title is being coined off as a 'Doom' clone. Blitz has announced that Possession will come to all three next-gen consoles. Koei and Namco/Bandai (merging) have made announcements that they will make games for Revolution but not what games yet. Also, Camelot has announced that they are currently working on a Revolution RPG. Some rumors say that this may very well be the third Golden Sun game. Killer 7 producer Goichi Suda, aka Suda 51, has confirmed that Grasshopper Manufacture is planning to make a Revolution game. [20] According to Game Informer, Hideo Kojima is developing a Revolution game with the team from Kojima Productions that developed Metal Gear Acid.

Kid Icarus is looked back at with overly fond memories - it was a level-based Metroid, but with half the features taken out. I do like the game, but there are much better games that could be remade.

And thanks for the link, Slash...interesting stuff.

What's so great about Kid Icarus? Startropics was 100 times better and no one ever talks about that.

Uhhh... is it just me, or can anyone else even imagine using the funky remote style controller for a fighting game, like Soul Calibur or SSB?

Well, I never imagined that a platforming game would be playable with only a touch screen, but Nintendo proved me wrong with Kirby on the DS. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt till I play SSB. SC will probably be one to use the "traditional" adapter shell.

Pikmin has been said by Miyamoto to be one of the most natural selections to make a sequel for on the Revolution. Also, as mentioned above, Kid Icarus has been mentioned more than once in interviews with him. And he even said that he is working with the original director.

you wont see a May release for Revolution. Game developers just got their first look at the console this past october...i highly doubt that 7 months would be long enough to have a lanuch. More realisticly E3 '06 will be used to showcase games in progress.

i truely believe that nintendos next console will debut next holiday season just like the xbox 360 this year. Nintendo is in no hurry to push this out (even though they did say on several occasions that they would release at the same time as their competitors)
