Want a good yet inexpensive coffee maker. I've never used one, always just boiled the water. Guess it's time to start using one.

I actually prefer the french press for coffee, as the coffee brews stronger than a drip coffeemaker. I have had bad luck with coffee having an "off" flavor with the permanent filter things, even after cleaning the coffee maker.

You shouldn't have a hard time finding something decent in the $20 range. There are probably some at the local thrift store, too, if you don't want to spend this much and are willing to put in the time to clean the coffeemaker thoroughly.

Are you looking for a single cup at a time deal, or a 12 cup pot, or something in between?

One cup would be fine. And I have no idea what you mean by filter, care to elaborate?

I just bought a Cuisnart DC-1200. I'm very pleased with it.

I've never heard of this brand, but I had one just like this. The "permanent nylon filter" caused the coffee to have a strange taste.

It seems that they are pushing the senseo type pod machines for one cup, but they can be pricey and you have to buy the premade pods. Granted, they are easy to find now, but your favorite brand might not make the pods.

I don't know how well this works, but it looks convenient if you like to take coffee with you and it is around $20. A manager at work has one of these, and he seems to like it.
