books are a pretty good idea, especially if you know something that they really love (or would be really interested in)

The bath and body works store in the mall is always good. Don't get them soap thats ed up. Get them candles and lotions. Or just gift certificates to that place. Every women likes that joint.

if they like Hello Kitty, then i have the perfect gift.

go to your nearest Sanrio and buy a small bag with Hello Kitty or whatevers on it, and make sure it's one of those bags where you can tighten the top by pulling the ropes.

then go buy just loads upon loads of candies. any kind will do, just make sure you mix it up a little. then bring it up to the register to purchase it, and tell the cashier to put the candy in the bag, so you can judge how much more/less candy you need.

i've done this 3 times already, and they've all loved it. also, it's not that expensive, including the bag (which was ~$6), my total for each time came out to under $20. also, if you really want to make it special, put something in the middle of the bag. something small that you know they'll like. or if anything, write a note and stuff it in there.
