I have to admit. This is disappointing. GC needs all the help it can get. First, no online support. Now (potentially) this.

how many of these games sell on the cube?
maybe 40k,

since the snes, sports games have not flocked to the nin systems and nin gamers have not flocked to sports games, its bizarre, but ultimately, whether or not madden comes out for the cube is more a debate point for gaming websites and message forums than actually having an impact on gaming habits and gamers

I'm not surprised nor am I disappointed...those of us who own Cubes probably weren't influenced by whether it had a Madden game.

First the ESPN series, now Madden. It looks like the only sports games on the Cube are gonna be Disney's Extreme Tennis and other stuff like that.

Well Nintendo should just make Mario Football and they'll sell a gazillion copies at $50 a pop in the first month.

i personally think mario should extend his sports career beyond karting, golf, and tennis. ill bet mario footbal '05 is alot more exciting to most cube owners than madden football '05. and while hes at it i love the mario volleyball minigames from the mario party games and see some good potential in those becoming a good full game release.

Am I the only one who sees this as a bad thing? Sure, I'm not surprised but damn. The GC is slowly becoming a niche system. Kinda like the NeoGeo and Dreamcast. Both great systems but without mass market appeal. Both companies ended up with a financial disaster. Granted, Nintendo is far from going broke but the trend is undeniable. Pokemon will eventually die out and the money will dry up with it. I just don't want to see Nintendo go down.

good riddance.

now if only we could rid the entirety of the video game market of this series, the world would be a better place

You do realize that both the Xbox and GameCube are niche systems as it is? I mean sure more third party stuff gets sold on Xbox but with both systems neck and neck fighting to stay out of third place neither is a success by mass market standards.

When you're being outsold 60 million to 15 million and 15 million (I don't have up to date sales numbers so bite me before you correct me.) the PS2 is outselling both 2-1. That's the definition of niche.

I enjoy Madden a lot on the Gamecube, and I would miss it a lot if 05 wasn't released. That said, I'll be buying the Xbox version if the Cube's is cancelled. The prospect of not having to scramble together some free space on memory cards alone almost makes the switch worth it.

My guess is it's just a mistake... GC Madden easily sold enough copies to make the port worthwhile... there's no good reason they'd bail on the platform when its selling so well.

To me, it'd make more sense for them to bail on the Xbox, seeing as they've got competition bringing online multiplayer to the table while they bicker with MSFT over it.

It was just a rumor. This should clear it up:

Well, they would never bail on the xbox version for starters. Online play or not that version still sells a ton as well. Also, does that story from Cube-Euorpe speak just for Europe or for North America as well? I didn't see any indication in there.

My guess is its either A) an oversight by retailers or B) EA is just hoping no one will notice its not available on GCN.

Either way, I never bought sports games for gamecube to begin with. So having EA drop support (whether it be all or just madden) doesn't affect my opinion of the console at all.

What is up with Cube-Europe trying to install that bullshit webtools search bar?!?!?! That so irks me! I have to deal with stupid users at work all day installing shit like that and hotbar. Very ghetto for a game site!

EDIT: Got so irritated that I forgot to comment on the topic. That is good news. Now if they could incorporate cross platform online gaming. That would be sweet!

Yes Gamecube may not be the best system for sports games most people do not buy it for that. But for the people who buy it for its other great games (Action/Adventure) they have to be able to get a decent football game. Some cheapasses (me) cannot afford to buy three systems just for a certain type of game each. I will be very dissapointed if the Madden series does not continue with Nintendo. I mean thats were the madden games started right?

Id buy a disneys extreme tennis if it used a respectable game engine. Who wouldn't want to see that?

Old news, but this game is still in development for the Gamecube.

Its inconceivable that Madden would be released in Europe but not America.

It is American football, after all.
