i've been poking online trying to figure out how to get my GC to run on my pc/monitor, and VGA boxes seems to be the way to go. i guess a TV tuner would also work but im not sure on how great the image quality is.

does anyone have any experiences with VGA boxes? i'm more concerned over the image quality over the price of the box, so any suggestion will be helpful

Hmmm.. makes me want to go and hook up my dreamcast to my monitor. Too bad they did not make one for the PS2 or Gamecube. I love my vgabox made specifically for the DC.

aye, i heard the DC vga box was awesome back then... but i really need one that can operate with multi-systems. i still have a buttload of PSX rpgs i still need to beat, a few GC games, and one or two DC games as well

i'm just curious, was the DC vga box officially made by sega? or was it made by a third party? its weird that ninetendo, sony and microsoft didnt make their own vga box for their system. surely theres some kind of market for it, esp with people whos dorming and dont have room for a TV like me

go to your local frys, i see them next to the guitar hero demo, they look good

thats a problem... i dont think theres a local fry's near me or at least i've never seen a fry's electronic store in my life (i live in brooklyn, nyc)

Sega made one, the one by... performance (had to look under my desk) was better due to the vga passthrough.

The DC had native VGA support, which the newer consoles lack. (360 may have?)

though there are a handful of games that dont support vga mode. (psychic force 2012)

You are correct. I did much research and for me it was vdigi or bust. It kills any of the generics and is better than the xvga because it can accept any component source. Im probably gonna sell mine soon as I now have a full tv. Im gonna be sad to see it go though. One of my fav. purchases of the last couple years easy.

This is exactly what you should get... Don't settle for the crap at Lik-Sang, those suck. This is one of the only products at this pricerange that'll do true HD on your monitor.

hmm i saw that site during my search but i couldnt make heads or tails of the website so i just closed it :P the screenshots does look promising. but just to be sure, this does work on CRTs right? my CRT is prolly at least 5-7 years old so its not exactly new...

what do you mean by component cable? like a s-video cable? and what do you meant that games have to support 480p/progressive scan? like does it MUST support progressive scan or it won't run, or if you dont have progressive scan, it'll run like complete crap and it'll be unplayable?

oh yea and if someone can throw out some rough percentages of the GC/ps2 games out there that supports 480p it would be great

Component connections is another type of connection supported by TVs (like composite, S-video,HDMI..etc...). They are labeled Y , Cb , Cr. They have 3 connectors normally colored Red/Green/Blue. They are not to be confused with the composite ( Red/Yellow/White) connection. Component is normally used by DVD, HD STBs, and some video game system.


The VGAbox that I have for the Dreamcast was made by blaze. It works great. Although, Sega did make their own.

The Dreamcast supported RGB too.


I was so upset when Sega canned the DC.

hmm.. this can get pretty pricey the component cable is selling for $30 on the official ninetendo site and its just for the GC alone....

is there a 3 in 1 component cable? the only one i was able to get my hands on was one made by Madcatz on ebworld.com. its $20 but the price seems too good to be true so something has to give :P plus i've never been much of a fan of madcatz's accessories.

i also couldnt find a component cable for ps1 anywhere :P does the box support the ole analog cables? i couldnt tell from looking at the pictures >_<

/edit also... is the component cable for video only? i'm googling more info on the net and some people says you need to get a audio cable as well. /boggle

anyone know if this box is usable with s-video or with the regular cables? would be awesome if it does cause i might want to run some older systems (psx) on my monitor sometimes.

No. As was stated b4, it has to be a progressive source and fed via component cables. So its

Xbox (most)
Ps2 (some)
GC (some)

And it should work on your old CRT. Mine was a 6 year old sony and it work splendedly.
