Nintendo needs the 3rd party support, and I think they'll get a sizeable amount this time around if they did what they said. That being said, it remains to be seen who will develop for what this time around.

Reality's Fringe, is your sig intentionally moronic and annoying?
Back on topic though, I'm really looking forward to seeing what third-party developers can do with Revolution's capabilities. Only about 15 more days until E3 comes around and we start seeing whether Nintendo can live up to all the hype. |

Lessons learned from the gamcube? WTF? Those were lessons they should have learned from the N64 and applied to the gamecube. Thats 2 consoles in a row with limited 3rd party support. I know Nintendo moves slowly, but lets hope they really have learned that lesson.

We've already seen this with Red Steel. A third party developer never gets to give the official first look at a Nintendo system. So they can talk all they want, but if their actions continue to back it up, that's much louder.

It is good that Nintendo recognizes that they need good 3rd party support, but some of the 3rd party games that have been announced arent so exciting. (Spongebob?!)
I actually googled it. |

Even if they get the third party support, most Nintendo fans are too narrowminded to try anything not made by Nintendo besides the few rare cases.

I don't know. I don't mean to sound like a pessimist about this, but is it even possible for Nintendo to get extensive third party support any more?
The N64 didn't have it largely because of the choice to go with cartridges over disks, and while Nintendo unquestionably tried harder with the Cube (the whole Resident Evil deal, for example), everybody "knew" the PS2 was going to come out on top, and that's where developers devoted the bulk of their effort. So it's a catch-22: how do you get third party support? You sell lots of consoles. How do you sell lots of consoles? You have lots of third party support. I think that unless Sony does something massively stupid, like drop the PS3 for a cold grand, for many people -- developers included -- Sony is the obvious horse to bet on for the win once again. I think it's something of a fait acompli, and I don't really feel like it's Nintendo's fault, particularly. |

With the Gamecube, Nintendo had this "Dream Team" theory of 2nd party developers moreso that really didnt work out for them.
The DS has paved the way to the Revolution. People were spelling doom by the hands of the PSP for the underpowered and gimmicky system. Support for the DS is not an issue. Its a momentum heavy industry, sure , but I think they are going to ride the DS momentum right into the Revolution. 1) Make development cheap(er) 2) Expand the market I think they're heading in the right direction. |
