Not sure if it has ever been confirmed, but judging by the controller pic it has the 4 different lights there on the top back of the controller.

Ahhh, wow. I thought bluetooth enabled 7 controller ports?

I'm pretty sure it is still 7 controllers. They are using bluetooth so it doesn't cost them extra to have the extra 3.

last i heard it was 7

the 1-4 on the controller is probably a battery life indicator

Although, my question is, do they plan on fitting 7 people on one TV, or do they expect multiple TV's to be there for all the controller ports to be activated?

I assumed the 1-4 was a battery indicator 2 but I guess it makes just as much sense for it to be the player number. I'm sure it still goes up to 7, perhaps they'll just signify it by having two numbers lit up at once, like player 5 would have 1 and 4 lit up, 6 would have 2 and 4 lit up, and 7 would have 3 and 4 lit up.

That's more or less the only reason I wanted dual HDMI output, so instead of hooking up two systems together to display 4 players on each TV you could just use one system with a TV for each team.

well since they dropped the dual HDMI ports, the only thing that 7 controllers can be used for are for games like sports games, party games, etc. Games that are multiplayer but don't require split screen. There are several already on the PS2/PS1.

Also, the 7 controllers is actually 7 wireless devices. Meaning you can have 4 controller, 2 headsets, and a webcam or something.

with 4 lights they could technically indicate up to 16 players. hooray for binary.

True. But could you imagine the average joe trying to figure out who was controller 13?

They would learn. Everyone should know a little binary.

With the use of online play becoming so common the appeal of supporting more than four players is diminishing. It makes a lot more sense for teams of 2-4 players to each have their own display and be conencted via network, whether they're in the same building or a thousand miles apart.

The remaining three position may remain functional for other devices, like dance pads and guns. But really, how many of us even own a Multitap, nevermind using it for more than four players?
