DISCLAIMER: I saw about half of the first episode. This review is based on my first impressions. If anyone has actually seen the entire thing, I'd appreciate their comments to tell me if my impression is accurate and if I should keep watching.

I just saw part of the first episode on the anime network. My god, that was awful. I don't want to jump to conclusions, considering that 1) I've only seen part of one episode and 2) much of the awfulness comes from the English voice acting (especially Ai, the little girl) and I tend not to watch dubbed versions anyway. But still, it just seemed so... stupid. These two little kids (named Yuu and Ai. Is it supposed to be a pun? "You and I"?) are trying to find their parents, who are scientists who found a way to enter Wonderland (not the Lewis Carroll one, as far as I can tell. Although a Chestire Chocobo would be cool ).

It just seems so stupid. They end up seeing a chocobo and an airship almost immediately, but it feels like they were just put in there to be FF references, like they had to get a chocobo in there for it to be FF. (Did I mention the chocobo pun? The boy takes out a candy bar, offers it to the chocobo and says "You want some choco-choco-chocolate?" I feel embarrassed for the translator who came up with that line.) They also meet a mysterious guy who has no memory except of the fact that he's searching for someone. (This cliche annoys me in any anime or videogame. Still, I have some hope that he'll turn out to be a Sephiroth clone or something.)

Anyhow, I still might rent the anime just because I'm a pathetic FF fangirl. I just hope the rest of the series is better than the beginning.

Its some sort of Final Fantasy anime, or something. Ive been seeing ads for the first season box set (or the show itself) in a few magizines for the past few months. Ill probebly stay away, too bad I dont have anime network though.

It is pretty horrible. I sat through two full episodes and then gave up. Stay away at all cost!

Brolly, don't feel bad about not having anime network. They have a very limited number of shows, and they usually only have two or three episodes per series. (and they aren't even consecutive episodes. I'm trying to figure out why someone would want to watch episode one and then episode ten.)

with concast digital cable, it's even worse, because our anime network access is controlled by a feature called "on demand"

Yes, you can watch a show anytime you want, but they almost never add any new shows, and as Amanda already mentioned, they are often out of order.

that added to the torture that is English dubs and the fact there are very few of those shows available that I actually want to watch has culminated in me rarely bothering with the anime network offerings at all

I personally did not like it at all. It just doesn't live up to the Final Fantasy title at all.
