Hey folks.

I'm back in Phoenix area for the next week and I'm having a hard time remembering the name of a small anime shop in the Chandler/Mesa area. IIRC, it was somewhere around Guadalupe rd/st/whatever, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

I can say for a fact that I am not talking about Atomic Comics, as I was there earlier this afternoon. Nice place, but not the one I'm looking for.


Also, a bit of advice to anyone in the area. The EB games near the Target Greatland (Chandler West) is nice, but don't get the short guy talking. I was standing there for about 25-35 minutes listening to him go on.

No really, I was sorta hoping to do some sort of SHOPPING while I'm here, as wonderful as it is to listen to your monologue and all.

I know I was totally grumpy about it, but I even mentioned to him and the manager that I had a couple rough flights, I was tired, jet lag... and the guy wouldn't stop talking. argh! Leave me alone, I want to look at games.

I think the one your talking about is a store just called Anime. Its on the corner of Guadelope/Rural. Its next to a golf shop and a mexican restaurant. I was in there once, very nice but a little to expensive for me.

It's actually called Neo Planet. SW corner of Rural and Guadalupe. Also, if you want to drive out further into Phoenix, try Samurai comics on 7th st and and Indian school I believe. You can look them up online or on their site. Other than that, Atomic is really the biggest selection. How long are you in town for?

Yes, Guadalupe and Rural, that was it! I'll try and find my way back there tomorrow. And with a name like Samurai Comics, I'll have to explore out there too. =)

I'm leaving this Thursday morning, so I have a good 3 weekdays left to venture around. I want to hit the Phoenix Desert Botanical garden some morning or evening. It sounds fascinating. Anything else worth checking into?The Zoo looked like it might be a tad small for the $14 entry fee.

The zoo is fairly large. I loved it, and there is a wide arrange of animals there. The botanical gardens are nice thing to do early or late in the day when its semi-cool. Very fasinating stuff to read about the cacti and all of the natural flowers of the desert.

Zoo one afternoon, anime stores another afternoon with the garden either that morning or evening. One day left for... ? Well, a day of goofing off is brilliant if nothing else is worth doing.

What I want to know after today's lovely 110 or so degrees, is who in their right mind decided to build a city in this valley/desert/oven?!

It's nice that we're able to do this sort of thing, but honestly. I see this as a sort of societal/engineering test/joke gone too far.

It's the Legend of the Phoenix. Besides, we have the technology, why not mess with it? Not sure if they started yet, but at ASU East they're filming Kingdom with Jamie Foxx. There's supposed to be an area for people to watch the filming. You could go tubing. The Phoenix Art Museum is free on Thursdays. hmmm.... There's a sneak preview of Click at the Scottsdale Fashion Square tonight if you can get a ticket.

After 25 years in Houston/San Antonio I can honestly say I think this place rocks for weather. I can stand the heat a hell of a lot better than the wet dripping salt stained clothes I was used to from playing golf in 100 degree 100% humidity days of growing up.

I actually can walk outside after a shower here and get drier rather than immediately have to ring out my shirt again.

Yes, 110 starts to push it and we have the major disadvantage of too much concrete and steel so the nights dont get nicer, but its all worth while when I start watching the floods in the Gulf Coast or the snow in the north. Palm Springs is a nicer place though if you get over there sometime. Same kick ass weather, but the nights get nice and cool - or at least the did when I lived there for a short period.

However, back when I was doing Interent Security, one of our clients had a bunch of server farms out here. One night their AC went down and every site and network they hosted went down. It wasn't my department, but it was quite the drama to watch as the company was frantically trying to get HVAC repair teams out there.

At the time I just thought to myself, of all the things not to put out in the desert, first would be anything to do with refrigeration, second would be anything to do with computers. Ironic how Intel is about 2 minutes away from me as I write this.

You tell me this NOW!?!? I have one day left, and that's scheduled to meet my big brothers boss for lunch. Unless I get out of there super early. Where do y'all go tubing?

You're telling me. Among the things I forgot to pack was conditioner, and my hair gets so dry outside that it's actually staticy (is that a word?).

Late this morning, I hit the Desert Botanical Garden (which by the way, is fascinating and you all should check it out some time. You guys, it's $10 per person... take your wives/girlfriends there some evening, just because). At around noon, the temperature on the ground was 123. In the sun, I was dry as a bone. In the shade I did sweat. It was the strangest thing.

You're right Kay, the humidity in most other parts of the country makes a huge difference. Aside from yesterday, I've found the heat here much more dealable.

And for the record, San Antionio and Fort Worth are two of my favorite cities in the US. Houston... is too busy for me.

I spent about 10 years in NH and I miss the snow. Even the blizzards. I was one of the few people living there who looked forward to winter storms.

My Nana lived there and I used to visit her when I was younger. Truthfully, aside from Disney World, I'm really not very big on Florida. But Disney rocks. okay, most theme parks rock, but Disney especially. =D


Oh, I should probably mention that I did find Planet Neo or Neo Planet (although seadramon was right, the sign on the buiding only says "ANIME") the other day. Y'all were right, it is very expensive. I mainly went there to see what toys they had, as last time I was there they had some great ones. All I picked up was a Hitomi (namco) figure.

Tubing is done out north of Mesa. Take power rd and just head north. I haven't done it in over a decade.

As for the Art Museum, it depends what's there. I haven't been there since September when it was Surrealism. Hope you had a good trip out here.

Yeah, also, it hasn't been confirmed, but they may close down a part of the 202 that was just opened in Chandler/gilbert to do some scenes there.

Yeah I did a little look around the internet and found an extras casting call for any Middle-Eastern looking people, I think I'm gonna try to do it (I could look vaguely Middle-Eastern).

That really sucks for people driving up there. Traffic's gonna be a bitch (even more so than it is now).

well, it's not confirmed. starting on monday for a week or two, the entrance to east campus, power and williams field, will be one lane each and possibly blocked on some days for a scene. The rest of the scenes are on the south end of the campus, past the housing. If you go south of williams field on power, you'll see the sets on the left. if they haven't finished building the wall yet.

Ah okay, that's not nearly as bad as blocking off that part of the 202.

I'm not sure why, but adding articles and determiners for highway routes is adorable.


And for what it's worth, there were signs either on 202 or 101 south of Phoenix noting that the highway would be shut down over some upcoming time span (I didn't note the dates as I won't be here). I put it up to construction work, which this may very well be, but your roads are so nice around here (honestly, it's like driving around a breathing SimCity. I could kiss y'alls civil engineers for building roads not for the traffic NOW, but the traffic that will be) I couldn't see any need for it.


But excuse me, I have to take the hallway bipass towards the kitchen loop for a drink.
