That's some funny crap if it's true about them using a trial version of Apple Shake. Might want to buy the full version next time Sony.

I saw it through that joystiq.com link. That's pretty weird. Isn't it getting a bit late for an 'official announcement?'

[update 4: It appears that the issue could not have come from a trial version of Apple Shake, as the save function is turned off -- thanks, Celly. Still waiting for the official statement, and repeated requests for a comment from Apple have gone unreturned.]

Sony and Apple? I just don't see it happening... but if it does, then it's just weird.

Sony's intense jealousy of the iPod makes this seem like total bullshit , to me .

Um.. yeah. When companies form partnerships it is usually carried out with the intention that both companies will gain profit they otherwise would not have. With that in mind, Apple and Sony are flippin' competitors... by forming a partnership they have nothing to gain.

Sony has its own line of computers, as does Apple.
Sony has its own online music service , as does Apple.
Sony has its own line of mp3 players, as does Apple.

Apple pretty much whips the shit out of Sony in all categories, so why would they form a partnership with Sony? They won't.

I still don't know why sony hasn't said a thing... maybe even they don't know and some people are getting fired?

Right - they'll reinvest in ATRAC before they do something smart like ally up with Apple.

Here is an IGN article about it, sonys statement is typical.

It looks like someone in charge of sonys marketing decided it would be a good idea to steal the smoke from the apple ad, where the IPOD box has the smoke dispersing aroundit. They did an incredibly poor job of hiding the apple logo. Thats just really poor judgement, I'm surprised at Sony for this.

That would be cool if everyone could share the love that is Atrac3...

MP4/AAC is obsolete, way too big files.
