Grrr...I play DoA so much and would love to sell my physical card for the digital version, but I feel like I'm being suckered in because an Ultimate version will come out later or something..
What is exactly included in the + version that consoles don't have? Trying to decide if I want the game or not.

Got NLKS and Nun Attack. Needed something to distract me from these last couple online nodes in Wipeout. I always seem to win when my objective is "Don't finish last" and I finish last whenever my objective is "Finish 1st". Assholes.

Javier Jaguar is the devil on normal. I am terrified to face him on my hard run.
If i hadn't have beaten Flamehead on hard last night, i think i would have deleted the game and never looked back. instead, i took him down... and yea, i'm not looking forward to Javier.

this plat is no joke.

Jaguar Javier fuckin sucks. Easily the hardest part in the game. The final boss seems pretty hard but if you just take your time with it, it's not bad at all.

And you're right, the plat is decently difficult. I hate seeing people say it's a super easy platinum and then you find out they did the glitch to skip hard mode.

I finally got around to playing a little Runner 2 and, boy, it sure brings out the OCD side of me. Very addictive, really enjoying it so far. I remember someone mentioned the brain melt they get after looking at this game for a length of time and after beating the 1st world my vision actually blurred somewhat when trying to focus on all the incoming obstacles... I think that was my cue to put it down for a while.

Is the DLC worth the money? Is it just character skins or is there a noticeable difference in gameplay?

Honestly I don't even know. I skipped the console version to get the Vita version, but now the consoles are getting Ultimate Edition which includes a bunch of DLC, extra character and features from the Vita version...whatever those may be.

Better training mode with combo challenge, added tap tap mode (gimmick), more titles, one extra option to unlock breast bounce to bounce like those of DOA1 (have to unlock via tap tap mode), ability to use DOA4's audio tracks instead of 5. The down sides are, deleted lobby all together, no tag mode except for story mode, no ability to upload videos to social media. With all the pluses and minuses, I'm not sure the title could be considered as +, but it's DOA on the go so there's only this or Dimensions for the 3DS. Also from personal experiences, the Vita version feels it has less input lag compares to PS3 version. It feels more like the Xbox 360 version which has 1 frame advantage over the PS3 version.

I'm a big fan of Team Ninja (though the current TN is kinda meh) so I have all of their games, yes even those DOA Xtreme games. ;) If you are at least a semi-fan of DOA fighting games, I say get it since it's only $10.

Looking forward to Devil's Third from the "real" Team Ninja!

Bought Guacamelee and am really liking it a lot, but my son and I tried the coop and that is sort of broken. The combat is fun coop, but the phase shifting platforming is problematic. Seems like they didn't think that part out. Also it's unclear if you can drop back out - if you can I could help him with the combat parts, then drop out for the platform parts, but the only option is Quit Game. Maybe that is drop out, but it's unclear.

Are the Tales from Space games for Vita and PS3 different enough to warrant purchasing both or are they basically the same game?

Here's The Drop for this week:

PlayStation 3

Killer is Dead (Also on PSN) – A reputable execution agency’s newest recruit, Mondo Zappa, takes center stage as he stalks and beheads a wide variety of heinous criminals all across the world (and even, perhaps, outside of it). As he settles into his new job, he also comes to terms with his own inner demons, balancing his talent for dispensing swift and brutal justice with his fleeting memories of a traumatic past, and peppering it all with his many sensual conquests.

Be he a killer, a lover or a gigolo, his many tales of passion and brutality begin with his appointment at Bryan´s Executioner Office. A whole world of pain and pleasure awaits, and there’s no telling where it might take him next…

Lost Planet 3 - Lost Planet 3 reveals new truths about the foreboding planet and the colonial history of E.D.N. III, returning players to the extreme and unpredictable conditions that characterized the Lost Planet series, now harsher than ever before. The game delivers a diverse range of gameplay including on-foot battles and intense first person action. With a number of multiplayer modes and a compelling single player experience, Lost Planet 3 will delved into the hidden truths within the unique and dynamic environment of E.D.N. III.

Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn - The MMO role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn invites you to explore the world of Eorzea with friends from across the world. Forge friendships, mount up on a chocobo, board an airship with your friends and create your own unique stories within the Final Fantasy Universe. Undertake epic quests and battle with familiar Final Fantasy monsters alone or enlist the help of your friends. Each player will have their own unique abilities and equipment that they have acquired during their adventures. Work together to help forge the fate of Eorzea!

Madden NFL 25 - Strap on your helmet and get ready for the adrenaline-pumping thrills that are NFL football. Whether you’re a slashing running back, ball-hawking safety or dual-threat QB, Madden NFL 25 features 30 new moves that let you interlace a string of devastating combos with an all-new precision modifier that unleashes the power, precision and creativity of the NFL ball carrier.

With more polished physics simulation and an all-new Force Impact System, year two of the award-winning Infinity Engine harnesses power moves, such as Hit Stick, Truck, dive tackle and more, to give you more control over the outcome of the play than ever before. Cement your reputation as one of the all-time greatest players or coaches, and take complete control over your franchise in Connected Franchise. Build your ideal Madden team in this year’s edition of Ultimate Team, while accessing the best content from around the Madden NFL universe with Madden Share. With 25 years of expertise backing this game, you’re in for an unparalleled experience that will have you forgetting that you’re not out there on the turf, fighting for glory.

PlayStation Network

Killzone Mercenary (Public Beta) - If you thought the battle lines were clear, you’ve not seen the whole story. Killzone: Mercenary throws you into a deadly firefight where you not only fight alongside the dangerous ISA, but also shoulder to shoulder with the vicious Helghast. There is no good. There is no evil. There is only the mission … and the money. Experience Killzone from a brutally new perspective, only on PlayStation Vita.

Spelunky - (Cross Buy and Cross Play) Spelunky is a cave exploration / treasure-hunting game inspired by classic platform games and roguelikes, where the goal is to grab as much treasure from the cave as possible. Every time you play the cave’s layout will be different. Use your wits, your reflexes, and the items available to you to survive and go ever deeper! Perhaps at the end you may find what you’re looking for…

Sweet Fuse: At Your Side – Sweet Fuse: At Your Side is an otome game developed by Idea Factory and Concept for the PSP. It is being released in North America by Aksys Games. The protagonist is Saki Inafune, the niece of legendary game designer Keiji Inafune.

The HD Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character –The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character is a twitchy, fast paced platform game playable with the simple use of just two buttons. Rotating Octopus Character can’t stop spinning, and he sticks to everything, but he can change direction, and he can jump. So, armed with those two moves – Reverse, and Jump – you’re tasked with helping ROC to collect all the baby octopi who have been so unfortunately scattered all over the world. The videogame world is full of hazards for a spinning octopus, too, so it’s not just a case of jump-and-grab. Timing is everything to avoid sending ROC hurtling to his doom.

Floating Cloud God: Saves The Pilgrims in HD – As the Cloud God, your job is to keep your troupe of devoted followers safe on their long journey in Floating Cloud God Saves The Pilgrims. It’s no easy feat, as there are hordes of peculiar demons waiting across the game’s seven worlds, all trying to pick off a pilgrim or two. Blast these demons away with your power — the more enemies you shoot without getting hit, the more the pilgrims will love you. Pilgrim love helps you get faster and more powerful, but getting hit will lose you all that love, and you’ll need to work on your shoot-and-dodge skills to get back the hearts you lost.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva F — Step onto the world’s ultimate stage! Join Hatsune Miku in an all-new rhythm video game featuring selections from her popular songs. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F features 38 unique songs including popular tracks like Tell Your World and BlackRock Shooter.

Anyone here get Jet Rankings on all Jet Set Radio levels and not have the characters unlock? I have no idea why it didn't unlock and checking online showed no one else with the same problem... I must be doing something wrong. To be clear, I got Jet rankings when playing through the story a second time and had to retry some levels because I got a lower ranking 1 or 2 times. I earned the graffiti souls trophy though. I played through the first chapter in a 3rd playthrough on the same save and it didn't unlock any characters.

I'm loving this game. Often I'll pass on trophies that require a lot of grinding, but in this case I don't care. Triple+ in every level? Sure... why not?

Yeah, I took a couple days off from it and think I'm gonna start through hard tonight. It's too bad there's no plat though, would probably be my first one if there was.

Looking on the PS Store, they've enhanced the Pre-Orders section of the store to show what you get for pre-ordering each game:

  • Battlefield 4 gets you the China Rising expansion.
  • Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse gets you the original Genesis version and some avatars.
  • Diablo III and Lost Planet 3 include a DLC pack.
  • FIFA 14 and NHL 14 get you 24 Ultimate Team Gold Packs.
  • Madden NFL 25 gets you an Ultimate Team Pass, which I believe gets you a new pack every week of the season.
  • Rain gets you some avatars, a dynamic and static theme, and a musical montage.

After I beat the last level I started attacking going after Triple+ in reverse; starting at the last boss level and going backwards. I figured the last few levels would be the hardest and it would just get easier from then on. So far, so good... I'm at the midway point of the 5th world.

I forgot all about that pack. Thanks for the reminder... just picked it up.

Since you're a trophy hunter...MGS2 is a hard plat, but 3 is super easy. For 2, there are a ton of VR missions, and some are really tough on Vita. I found myself using the transfar feature to switch between PS3 and Vita a lot to take down whichever missions i found easiest on each system.

That being said...MGS2 I absolutely loved, but 3 I was a little bored with. Definitely worth the price, no doubt.

Are the Tales from Space games for Vita and PS3 different enough to warrant purchasing both or are they basically the same game?
From what I remember, they play basically the same, but are slightly different levels - can't remember if the Vita game had boss fights or not, but the PS3 one does. I got the Vita one free with PS+ and I enjoyed it so much I decided to buy the PS3 game during this weeks sale. Played through it today and enjoyed it - my one complaint it I couldn't play with the D-pad. I couldn't find any option to change the control from the analog stick and I hate playing 2D platformers with the analog stick. Pretty sure you can use the D-pad on the Vita game.

Actually, they're quite different games. Mutant Blobs Attack is the sequel to Tales From Space and is much more of a straightforward platformer compared to the original being more puzzle-focused.

A few of us were hoping for the four pack to be included in the 75% when they announced it, not that it was particularly likely.
I guess I was expecting more of a snarky comment about expecting the new games to be half off or something like that. The specifics being that the discount was for one title probably was an indicator that they wouldn't go that route with the offer.

I gotta put out my recommendation for anyone who is a child of the 80's or a fan of 80's action movies to pick-up Far Cry: Blood Dragon.

The original Kyle Reese (from The Terminator) is the voice actor for the main character.

I'm only an hour or so into the game, but have been laughing pretty much any time there is dialogue or the awesome 8 bit stop motion cut scenes.

"Winners don't use drugs" - yes, they worked that into the dialogue.

Best Buy online. I think it's still going on. If you are a gamer reward zone member you get a discount when you add it to your cart.
Damn. $5 off the $50 card, $1.50 off the $20 card. I must be an idiot to not have noticed this on the website before. :dunce:

Thanks for the info, better late than never! ;)

I guess I was expecting more of a snarky comment about expecting the new games to be half off or something like that. The specifics being that the discount was for one title probably was an indicator that they wouldn't go that route with the offer.
Yeah, it was more of the distant hope variety that they would do something that would actually justify purchasing a $60 game digitally.

Nah because it's been going on for like two months now but you don't see it unless it's in your cart so it's easy to overlook or forget about.

You're welcome! Don't feel bad, I didn't notice it until I decided to buy a $50 card a few weeks ago. I thought it was a glitch until someone told me otherwise.

i guess i will give the free minis of rotating octopus and floating cloud god a trial to see if id even be interested in vita versions.

also still torn. i bought guacamelee and blood dragon. still torn over mgs hd, lil kings story, dw next and muramasa. argh too much vita goodness? and i just got soul sacrifice last week, i dont know where i think ill have all this free time to play my handheld...
i didn't ike the floating cloud mini at ALL, but i've heard the vita version is significantly better thanks to the second analog stick. i don't remember rotating octopus well enough to comment.

i think a previous poster just sold me on blood dragon, i tried to resist.

and yes, too much vita goodness. people complaining about a lack of games have no idea what they're talking about. drowning.

OH -- and javier?! he's the devil. i just got him down to final form (well, final shield variant) with zero damage to self... and he still managed to kill me. every time i think i have him in my sights, he figures out a way to demolish me. hard mode javier is most definitely a beast. i do think i've 'figured him out' tho... now it's just a matter of time.

Seriously, I don't even want to go look at my account to see what I've spent the last three months but it's at least $250 which is about five times what I had planned to spend on PSN in that time period and at least 2/3's of it went to the Vita.

Javier defeated.   while this may be easy for people used to fighting games and comboing, i don't play fighting games so this was pure hell.

For those that need help on hard mode (which should be most anyone):

stay calm.  by far the most important.  he is a BEAST.

1) master roll dodge. you need it.  you need to escape almost all of his attacks with it, and you need to get close to him, and rolling is really the only way.  i use the right analog, though i guess you could use left trigger.

2) learn to juggle him.   dash him, roll towards him, punch punch, dash, uppercut, etc.  if you can get him in the air, you get some bonus attacks.  eventually he'll force break your combo which is when you should recharge.

3) wall hang high up left or right to recharge.  wait for him to charge under you, then special down to launch him, and immediately break his shield and start the combo.

4) do #3 a lot.  i've had some good tries keeping it on the ground, but doing the wall hang i could consistently get him to < quarter health.  cheaper, but hey, so is he.

5) while his vertical attack is unavoidable, it's also the easiest to attack after.  dash works best, then combo.

6) his 'final form' is a white attack shield.  by this point he's moving super fast, and you're all stressed out from being so close to beating him, and it's -easy- for him to demolish you if you blink.   keep calm.   stick to the program.  you need to launch him, then combo to break his shield.

7) when he gets really fast, sometimes the best move is just to keep 'dash attacking' (left/right circle) him.  don't even go for a combo.  5 hits is better than getting hit.

i got him down to his white shield maybe a dozen times before finally closing the deal.

Sorry for the horrible formatting haha. But hell yeah at Dragon Fantasy Book 1 being that cheap. Will definitely get to ready myself for the sequel. Link below for easier reading:

EDIT: Yeah it was too bad so I deleted my attempt at listing them on here. Please feel free to do a better job than I did so people don't have to click the link lol.

Yeah, I have Dragon Fantasy langouring on my iPhone, but I'll switch it over to Vita for that price - and maybe actually play it someday! Dyad and Journey are also a must-buy at that price, and I'm pretty close to jumping on Tokyo Jungle as well.

hmm, tempting on Tokyo Jungle, but I've been trying to stop buying any more games since I've actually been working through my backlog and it seems a likely PS+ candidate.

But I say this every week with little success...

Boss, gonna pick up dragon fantasy and probably anything else I'm missing there (which isn't much!). That skullgirls price is awesome too, don't forget that the upcoming dlc characters are free for a few months after they come out.

I guess it's finally time to buy Journey.  I was sort of kicking myself for not pulling the trigger at $7.50 awhile ago.  I just hope the hype doesn't ruin it for me...

I was just looking at dragon fantasy. It looks like a great way to play a dragon warrior/quest game on my Vita.

I'm starting to regret signing up for ps+... I'm spending way too much money each month on games because of it. These sales are just too good to pass up.
