[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Sakura Samurai is the only 3DS eShop game I can think of that's been available on CN.
Since I've never even heard of this game before I must have blacked out that month ;).

But - it is not listed in the previous deals in the OP. When was this offered?

The 3 Zelda games for the Philips CD-i console were pretty mediocre, though I remember the Wand of Gamelon one getting roasted the most, think it got #6 on somebodies worst games of all time list.  So much so, that Nintendo says they aren't canon (they didn't produce them anyways).  I have no idea why Nintendo let that deal go through when they didn't even get that CD add on ironed out and working from Philips.

I remember playing the first one and not enjoying it at all.  Though in all fairness, most of the games on that system were ......  I guess "quirky" would be the most forgiving way to describe them.  Burn Cycle was pretty good though as was 7th Guest.

Hence why I included the "proper" caveat as those have been wiped from history by Nintendo and non-canon. Certainly glad I never had to experience those though.

Even if you didn't like Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess they're hardly bad games and if that's the low point of the series that's hardly anything to tut at.

I find it funny when people are so quick to point out that TP & SS were weak, when those are among a lot of fans favorites... I know SS is in my top 4. And like you said, both are quite far from being bad games.

If someone wants to point out a weak Zelda title, at least make it Spirit Tracks.

If I had to pick the weakest, my LEAST favorite Zelda was Four Swords.  Wind walker, TP, SS were all somewhere in the middle.  (if I had to chose, I think SS is the highest of the 3)  But that's just ME.

My PERSONAL Top 3:

OoT

Minish Cap

LttP

That being said.. most people have already played them and very few of the more recent Zelda's are replayable for me.

When I was a kid, I really wanted a CD-i. One day, I got dropped off at some guy's house to babysit me. I don't know if he was a relative or who the hell he was, but anyways, he happened to have a CD-i, alone with a few games. One of them was Wand of Gamelon.

Needless to say, I was pumped. He hooked it up for me, and gave me the controller. Only it wasn't a controller, it was more like a TV remote. OK, I said, that's fine, and began to play. I never wanted a CD-i after that experience, and it's the only time I ever played one. I think I only made it past like 5 screens. It was only much later in life I found out there were actual controllers for the system.

Alright guys, I seek CAG help. I've never played Metroid or LttP and I'm 25 coins short of picking up both right now. I'm leaning toward Zelda (mostly because at normal price, Metroid is only $5 and that's not a killer for me), but I seek opinions.
I would try to figure out how many coins they're worth. I believe people have (at least in the past) confirmed these games give CN coins, so it's entirely possible (though extremely unlikely) that buying one would give you enough to afford the other.

Anyway, like others have said, I would go with Zelda over Metroid.

Another CAG saying that LttP is the superior choice, it's my favorite Zelda game, as everything is fined tuned like a swiss watch. I honestly can't think of any fault to the game, it's a classic you won't regret playing.

If that was the case, the only one that would give coins would be Metroid for the 3DS, since originally LttP was released on the Wii VC console prior to Dec 2008, so no coins there for sure. Even then I think Metroid would only give 10 coins for the post play survey (which I did get such surveys for previous CN titles like SMK, MP2, and Fluidity, which were each 10 coins).

For ALTTP vs Metroid, Zelda is definitely the right choice. If it were Super Metroid it would be less clear cut, but I'd still say Zelda.

If you keep bullying him you're gonna make him leave this thread forever, too.
Bullying? Come on that's a bit extreme. I have mean no offense. Just having a little fun. It was a reaction gif of me agreeing with what he said about it being a awesome month.

Or were you being sarcastic? Honest question. I can't seem to tell with people anymore. :(

On-Topic: Yellow Cradle still says preparing.

I am pretty sure his post was just mocking me. I left the PSN thread because I was posting "helpful" things (even my comment about them being disappointing was tech helpful, since most months have fairly lack luster offerings. Again, this is 100% based off your perception of the titles and we can get into an endless debate about what is and is not a good month) and had a fight with Frisky (who was proven wrong come the end).

I think Four Swords is essentially LttP multiplayer enabled with a few enhancements.

I am sorry but this story sounds like you were molested by a mysterious guy while playing a CD-i. That sounds extremely traumatic.

As far as I'm aware, isn't Dillon's Rolling Western the first true 3DS shop game that has been offered by Club Nintendo? Everything else has been VC or DSiware stuff.

To me this is a great development. It seems like this should be celebrated a little. Maybe they'll have Pushmo on there some day.

I had never heard of this game before I got the puzzle panel for it on my 3DS. I still had no idea what it was until now:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds/dillons-rolling-western

65 on Metacritic but it appears that several reviews call out the high price ($9.99) so that knocked it down a bit. Obviously that is not an issue here - I am definitely getting this one. The question is do I get 1 or 2 copies (a second for my son). I guess I'll try it out and see how much I think he might like it.

I might get A Link to The Past in the hopes that it comes to the Wii U for an upgrade eventually. And do we have Metroid from the Ambassador program? I have all those but barely even look at them let alone play them. Still, I could get a copy for my son like I did with Zelda a few days ago.

I totally missed the charging cradles and I could really use one - them doing that on Halloween kind of hosed me because I was busy with kid stuff and away from the computer nearly all day. I can only assume they will come back at some point. It seems silly for them to go through all the trouble of producing those in different colors and have them be so limited.
Sakura Samurai was up about a year ago, but you're right that actual 3DS eshop titles are infrequently offered.

Zelda, absolutely, completely, without question. I like the Metroid series a lot, but the first one has aged very, very badly. It will seem so primitive. Not even in a nostalgic Super Mario/original Zelda way, but in an outright this isn't very good way. It is hard to play, very monotonous, you have to use paper to map it, and the "secrets" involve finding false walls and not much else. I've played and beaten it many, many times straight up but if you want an old school Metroid experience that won't make you want to hurt kittens, go with Metroid 3. Use the points on Zelda.

And yeah, I think today was blue/yellow cradle ship day. My blue got sent, so now I can use points on Zelda without being afraid they are going to do some funny business and not send it.

There's a great map for Metroid in the Official Nintendo Player's Guide from 1987.

They were bundled in the same GamePak but it was a different game. It had its own story. I just booted the game and I couldn't play it because it required two players to play it. :(
You should buy the version that's on the e-shop, it's been updated to allow you to play it single-player. It has it's hang-ups but I'd say it's worth playing, especially for the small asking price.

I wanna do a list!

For me it's:

Wind Waker

Link to the Past

Skyward Sword

Phantom Hourglass

I know a lot of people hate on the DS incarnations(you'll get no argument from me over Spirit Tracks), but Phantom Hourglass was actually quite amazing at moments and it definitely has some of the series' best puzzles.

Still so bummed I missed out on the charging cradle. I was checking every day for that guy, and it sucks to hear people exploited it.  :whistle2:x

My blue cradle shipped.. Also really tempted on LTTP.. Ive never played it.. but I just already have it in so many variations.

Have it on GBA, SNES, hacked on my psp. I think really if I was ever to play it, it would be on my psp I like portable consoles.

No one exploited it. >_> It was an accident. Know one knew we'd be getting them for free (or extras) until after they were sold out.

Interesting, care to elaborate?

I don't mean anything by it, people have varying opinions and I'd like to hear the negative side of it.
I think Dead Texan is being a little over dramatic (like so many people on the internet). I had a few problems with the game, but to say it was terrible or I hated it? Definitely not.

Here's a few things I didn't like:

  • Sparse overworld. Wind Waker had the same problem. I'd think Nintendo would have learned by now.
  • You got a *insert item name*! Every. Time. Even if you already got the item before, the game acts like it's your first time.
  • Repetitive boss battles (if I can even call it that). How many times do I have to seal the Imprisoned? Oh yeah, 3 times.
  • Stamina. I really hated the way it was implemented. There are no upgrades to make your stamina last longer.
Those are the things I can think of right now.

- Don't forget, to get one of the best items you have to do the boss rush - the same bosses again and again (including the Imprisoned). I don't mind having that option, but to get a significant item?

- Also, the whole dungeon inside of a dungeon got me. And the reuse of the same three overworld areas over and over. Can we not design more theme areas than that?

- The gimmick for the game is the motion control, but it is not all that accurate - it's not terrible, but you do get frustrated. And you had to keep resetting it to make sure it worked right in a pinch.

To me it just felt like going through the numbers. I sorta got that vibe in Twilight Princess, but with Skyward Sword it really felt bad. And for some reason, the lack of voice is REALLY starting to feel lacking. I understand they want you to feel like you are in the game, but come on, Link never talks anyways.

I was going to say, I've never heard someone say they hated SS... Lol

1. I get this one, really, but I personally seem to prefer this. I usually feel like I have to see, do & talk to everyone. I don't always have a lot of time to game outside of weekends so I can easily be overwhelmed.

2. I agree here and I do hate that. I understood the first time, Nintendo...

3. I understand this, and even agree to an extent, but don't a lot of Zelda bosses suffer from this?

4. This one didn't bother me at all, and I usually even enjoyed what it brought to the table. Although, I'm a big fan of MGS so I'm used to such things.

Anyway, there's my opinion on your opinion.

Just wanted to say I couldn't agree with you more here. Nintendo keeps acting like they want to freshen up Zelda yet they refuse to do this. Zelda is one of the biggest franchises out there that doesn't do voice, I just think they don't want to spend the money and keep coming up with excuses.

Just doing that alone would nearly be enough to cure the staleness to me!

It never, ever, ever stops holding your hand. The whole game felt like a tutorial for people who've never played a video game in their life. I thought the three hour farm tutorial in Twilight Princess was bad enough, but to have it stretched out for an entire game's worth is obscene. I know that not everyone has played every game under the sun, but it's one thing to guide you and another to assume you're too mentally insufficient to swing your remote around.

The dungeons are gimmicky and ultimately forgettable just like the majority of the boss battles that bookended them.

The emphasis on story and romance. This is the kicker. The game was a constant groan of 'are you KIDDING me?'. Nothing was sincere and it all felt so cheesy and flat-out awful. Twilight Princess might have been really bad, but at least it wasn't embarrassing to play.

I'm not a hater of the series by any means. I used to love it. Some of the handheld titles are actually pretty good, but these two console entries are just really bad. Twilight Princess was a too-long experiment in repetition, and Skyward Sword was Days of our Lives cel-shaded for toddlers playing Zelda for the first time.

Since I've never even heard of this game before I must have blacked out that month ;).

But - it is not listed in the previous deals in the OP. When was this offered?
With the power of Google, Sakurai Samurai was a Gold reward not a monthly game available for coins. Sorry for miss remembering, I do know I passed on the game because the Punch-out gameplay looked way too repetitive.
