I'm 18 years older than you so imagine how I feel ;). Now that the whole line is here there are at least a few 30-somethings. But no one in their 40's or older for sure. They decided not to go by number - we just lined up and I'm 9th. So I ought to be out of here soon.
 
So the Walmart in Knoxville, TN in Turkey Creek was fantastic about the midnight release. Had 11 consoles that weren't dedicated to pre-orders, and they let those that didn't have pre-orders checkout first. I was the first in that line. It went by fast, but for some reason they only had 6 games out. (Fifa 14, Madden 25, NBA 2k14, Black Flag, CoD:Ghosts, and BF4)

 
There's sort of a rubberized pad thing on the bottom, just where the 'partition's (bezel?) are located, on the front and back. Not on the 4 corners of the system as rubberized 'feet' normally go. Surely, they did that for a reason.

Thanks guys, but uhhhhh...it was the hdmi port on the ps4 that was supposed to be ruining the cables right? Not the ps4 hdmi cables ruining ports? Because I cant get a picture on anything, my 360, ps3, tv, wii u...

When I was at Target picking up Man of Steel and Turbo I saw a gentlemen that appeared to be in his late 30's maybe early 40's getting in on the b2g1 deal. Were out there, I think even this site has it's share of older gamers me being one of them.

 
Beware: looks like there's no option to pause ongoing downloads to take it 1 at a time if you're going all / mostly digital. I was able to queue up Contrast, Resogun, Warframe and Sound Shapes, and they're all downloading at the same time. Would've had Resogun by now if I just stuck to 1 at a time.

Haha oh yea I'm sure its a little awkward. They lined us up at like 10 to midnight by number but kind of had the group do it themselves so it was kind of a cluster. Got In and out quick though at number 22 I was walking out with my ps4 by 12:04 I guesstimate that of the hundred pre orders they had sixty showed up

Yeah exactly, but weird? I mean I was just using it playing 360 right up to 11:40 and went to GS 5 blocks away to pick it up ( I was number 13 - how appropriate) and came home and set it up by 12:30 its dead?

One final observation - out of 40+ people in line, there is exactly one woman. So yeah, there is a little truth to some gaming stereotypes ;).

I think at the launch I went to there were like five or six one of them was my wife who I dragged to it and I believe most others were in the same boat
 
Ok, now there are 2 women but one is a mom with a teenage boy...

Okay CAGs, thanks a lot for your suggestions and help.

I'm pretty sure the PS4 did something my Tv doesn't like. I can only get HDMI ports to register a picture for anything by turning it off then turning it back on. Never had this problem until today

So I'm looking at my PS4 on screen but my Tv is all weird. At least Black Friday is coming?

Yup, my friend who went with me to pick mine up and I were the only two female gamers there. The other 20+ people - including the four employees - were dudes.

 
to all of you actually stoked about this and waiting in line and stuff... what games are you getting? I still dont have a game to play for this thing.  Im picking my system up tomorrow and honestly it will probably sit in the box for a week then i may open it up to check some DLC games or something. None of the launch games look interesting to me, all just upgraded versions of ps3/360 games. The only ok looking one is Killzone but i havent played the other 3 (despite owning them). Plus those always drop in price quick\

Honestly i would just leave it sealed for quite a while if i didn't need to open and test it to make sure it works. I'll definitly avoid getting online for several days. I dont want to risk aday 1 update brick like the wii-u had

BF4 / Knack / Killzone.

I agree none of the games are super amazing, but things will pick up and it will give me a chance to fully experience these games.

IGN reported this on Thursday. 1 Taco Bell winner had a system DOA, and IGN had a retail system die too. Sony said defective units were only .04% of those shipped. Main thing I've heard were HDMI output going out or not working at all.

Io , you are 45 yrs old? damn i wish i had a dad who was a gamer, my dad is older than you, but he hates that i play video games.

 
Just got my ps4 at besybuy. Went there at 11pm. Was #14 in the preorder line. Got out 12:05am. Pretty sweet! Time to hook this baby up!!!

A 45-year-old gamer makes sense. You would've been a teenager when Atari, Colecovision, Intellivision came out, probably old enough to have the money to buy a game or two. The post-baby boomers grew up on video games so the market has gotten older with them.

 
Just got an email from Amazon thanking me for my PS4 preorder with a code for $30 off a Kindle Fire HDX 7. If only I could use it. I'm liking how Amazon has been retroactively rewarding us like this though.

I got one too. I wonder if you can use it for anything else, like other Kindle products.

How is that shady? I'm pretty sure that's the point. They're retroactively giving those of us who already preordered the PS4 a shot at essentially getting the bundle they offered, the same way they let those of us who already preordered PS4 games in on the B2G1 earlier this week.

There was a huge line in front of my gamestop... went to safeway came back at 12:30 the sign was still on that said Open... employees told me the store was closed. Didn't get my ps4... fuck

 
Thanks for making me not feel so damn old, Io, I just hit 39 a couple of months back, lol.  And Indy's right, I had a 2600 and Odyssey 2 growing up, then the NES and everything after that, so video games were a part of my childhood, you know, before games started holding your hand through levels.  Battletoads would cause so many tears on this forum these days...

 
Update was quick enough. Took a couple minutes to set up the profile and update. Now I need to find my CoD case to redeem my ps4 upgrade.

Haha, I'm in my 30s and I was chatting with the guy in line next to me who was 17. Always happens to me at New York Comic Con when I get in line before my friends get there and I'm surrounded by a lot of young people.

It's shady b/c the original promotion was only for those that didn't pre-order a PS4 just so they can get desperate people into buying their Kindle Fire just to get a PS4. Than they hand out the coupon to us so we can be suckered into a $30 discount for their Tablet.

But that's just how I see it. It's a smart move on Amazon's part to sell their own product to those that couldn't get it and than attempt to sell it to those that did. Still shady imo.

Yeah i did preorder. My store probably had 100 people in line. Line went by fast once they let people in. I guess it really depends on your location. My area has 3 gamestops a walmart and frys. So the people probably are spreadout

Personally I couldn't care less about BF4.. and killzone i still havent played the other 3 despite owning them.

Knack looks amusing. Someone whos played it told me its like ratchet and clank, which i love, but i dont see it being worth 60 bucks. Id imagine it will drop in price very soon, and i'll probably get it then.. which still leaves me with nothing to play now o_O

I really wish you could play PSN games you already own at least. ANy word on why we cant? Is it a technical thing, or just sony being dicks?

Serious question. Why in the hell were you silly enough to buy it then if you're posting here asking others why you bought it...?

I've said this 100 times here: there is absolutely no reason to buy a PS4 at launch unless you're a Killzone diehard.
 
Ugh, I kind of wish I had pre-ordered at Amazon. I've been thinking about getting my parents a Kindle Fire HDX for Christmas or as a retirement present for my dad in particular. He's about to retire from twenty-seven years in the army. He's finally got time to read and shit!
