This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars pack is free right now (normally $4.99). This is the pack with the homage cars to famous movies and shows like the DeLorean from Back to the Future, Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, KITT From Knight Rider and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard.

And I own the game on disc, but I wouldn't mind if it was the GwG for next month.

Thanks. DLing now.

Microsoft will continue to support the Xbox 360 ecosystem as long as it is profitable.

This is the problem; the Xbox has never been profitable. Sure, some years it's been in the black, but in the history of the brand, Microsoft has lost more money than it's gained. They're not even making money on the Xbox One, as this link illustrates:

http://bgr.com/2013/11/26/xbox-one-profit-estimate/

People like to rub their crystal balls and predict that Nintendo will be forced out of the console business, but their losses pale in comparison to the money pits that are the Playstation and Xbox. Nintendo is conservative and (usually) makes a modest profit. Microsoft and Sony spend extravagantly and get little return on that investment. Which is the better way to run a business?

Thanks. Also appears to be free on PSN. "Purchased" both (have the game digital on PS3, and I think I may have it on disc for 360, not sure).

Two things that go unaccounted for in any such calculations are brand value, and additional sources of income such as XBL services and content sales. Microsoft has been in the black most of the 360 life cycle. Even if the Xbox venture has cost them a net loss of 5 billion so far the value of the brand itself offsets this. But I digress. Let's go back to discussing XBL deals.

"Can I get my Rewards Credits faster?

A.Yes. If you reach 1,000 Rewards Credits or more, a 'Request Deposit' button will appear on your MyRewards page. Click on the 'Request Deposit' button for an early deposit! The early deposit will be deposited into your Microsoft account by the next scheduled deposit date on your MyRewards page. Check out the progress bar at the top of your MyRewards page to see your Credits progress."

EDIT: I just requested mine be deposited and this popped up,

" Please note, if the next published deposit date is in 3 days or less, your request will not be processed until the deposit date immediately following the upcoming one."

Probably too late to the party, but the Ryse season pass maps were shareable like the day one DLC. I invited my friend to play through the new maps and he was able to as long as I hosted. Not sure about the survival mode yet though, didn't see it out last night.

Monetizing XBL (raising the price, shoving more ads onto the dashboard) is one of the major factors the Xbox division was able to get into the black a few years into the 360's life cycle, so that's already been accounted for. And while the brand does have some value, there are always going to be execs, analysts and shareholders that will just look at the straight dollars and cents on the books (and the impact on their stock portfolios), not too dissimilar from the posts that pop up here when something goes on sale for a bigger discount than the past (like Soul Calibur last week), even if the game's already been played / beaten.

Not to drag this thread further off topic but if you are referring to this article it was not accounted for. Two additional points, 1) as you may know the Xbox brand is part of the Entertainment and Devices division and for a long time investors weren't able to see exactly what money was being made off XBL and other services/devices; and 2)there is a certain sector of M$ shareholders who want the company to revert back to being a software company. They view this as a great opportunity to make money short term (corporate raiders). Keep in mind that what's good for the shareholders bottom line is not necessarily what's best for the company. That said, I don't think anyone can deny that Microsoft has spent a boatload of money on this business venture but the brand value more than offsets the outlaid costs.

Pac-Man Museum is this week's XBLA release. At $20 for nine old games, it's ridiculously-overpriced, but I bought it anyway because I'm a huge Pac-Man nerd.

[customspoiler=List of Pac-games included]
  • Pac-Man
  • Super Pac-Man
  • Pac & Pal
  • Pac-Land
  • Pac-Mania
  • Pac-Attack
  • Pac-Man Arrangement
  • Pac-Man Championship Edition
  • Pac-Man Battle Royale
[/customspoiler]

However, Ms. Pac-Man is available as free DLC now until the end of March. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/MsPAC-MAN/dee0e7b3-6ae6-4d99-8bb7-d0523140aca2?cid=SLink After March 31, it will be $5. So, strong recommend to anyone who may be interested in Pac-Man Museum at some point, go ahead and download Ms. Pac-Man for free now, and that way, if the full game ever goes on sale, you'll already have that unlocked.

Here's a link to make it easier: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Burnout-Paradise-Legendary-Cars-Collection/00000000-0000-400c-80cf-000645410806?cid=SLink

Just so everyone knows the reason for this is to honour Harold Ramis' recent passing (he played Egon Spengler in the Ghostbusters movies)

Oh and thank you Matty for the link to Ms. Pac Man. Likely wouldn't buy that collection unless it gets about an 80% discount. I mean seriously $5 for Ms. Pac Man as DLC is just nuts too. The only thing is that for some reason I suck at Pac Man but am brilliant at Ms. Pac Man. I used to rule it on arcade back in the day. Which sucked cause it was the only game I was amazing at and I could never boast about it cause it was Ms. Pac Man. Now hopefully I'll be able to one day play it at home behind closed doors without the rest of the world judging me. But not for $20. That's crazy.

Oh and by the way, don't you love the foolproof way of knowing that the weekly sales suck this week. The old we start chatting about a lot of off topic stuff cause no one really cares about this COD sale whatsoever. On the topic of off topic, is anyone else wearing a sad panda face over all these mediocre Thief reviews? Looks like Square Enix really bungled it with this one :whistle2:(

Thanks, I'll grab it on PSN. Also will grab the Pac-Man DLC for when it's ever 75% off or more, since it is ridiculously overpriced.

Thanks for the heads up! Not sure if I'll ever own this game, but I'm a little pumped to drive the General Lee when/if I ever do.

Rumor/heads up (?) on x360a site is that March's free games with gold are:

  - Batman Arkham Asylum

  - Ninja Gaiden 2

AA is a good game.  Never played Gaiden.

AA would be nice! Gotta be the original version, not GOTY since that's the only GoD offering for that game. Since I already have the GOTY version, I could stack the achievements!

I would likely pass on NG2 (but still "download" it to have the license). Not my cup of tea

Here's my only query and possible interest in Batman Arkham Asylum as the free Games with Gold title for next month. Can anyone confirm if the GoD version is the GOTY edition? As that one has different achievement set to the standard edition. I ask because I would love to replay AA as it was probably one of my top 5 favourite experiences on the 360 (the others being Alan Wake, Mass Effect 1, Bioshock and Fallout 3) and, while I'm not an achievement whore, new achievements would be icing on that cake.

I rage quit Ninja Gaiden at the water serpent boss level. I cannot for the life of me kill that thing. I just can't. I spent hours trying. I pleaded to every god in existence and still nothing. Damn you Odin!

Edit: Looks like it's the standard version for AA on GoD - damn you Zeus!

Hope its true! I played but never beat AA(what?!), and loved Arkham City. Still waiting for Arkham origins to hit the $10 magic price. It may be a while, but from what i understand its not up to rocksteadys par so I can wait.

That boss was a bitch. The final boss on hard mode was near impossible to beat, but I managed to do so. The bad thing about that game is I love almost everything about it, but story mode is hard. Normal difficulty in NG2 is hard mode/insane mode on any other game and that's just the third hardest difficulty.

Already own AA GOTY and Ninja Gaiden II retail. If that's true, I'll just download NInga Gaiden II digital, and purchase but not download AA.

Those would be great choices.  Batman is really great (and will spur sales of the much improved sequels) and Ninja Gaiden is decent.  I like Gaiden and beat it, but sold it back and wouldn't mind playing it again a bit.  It's difficulty is in the incredibly cheap tactics and poor camera that result in sometimes being unable to see something that will kill you.  The tough boss that will kill you if you don't block after you beat it is just plain dumb.  Still, it's fun in an old school way.  I see many people that will download it and play for about five minutes then never touch it again.

I thought the rumors were wrong last month, so I will wait for Major Nelson. I wouldn't mind either of the rumored games though. I don't remember if I played NG2 and I've been wanting to play Batman again (those dinguses removed achievements from Steam version). I'm probably going to be playing Garden Warfare, Titanfall, and Killer Instinct for the rest of the year anyways, so GWG is just icing on the cake at this point.

ugh. is there a 'very easy option'? Or is this the game that when they retooled it easy became harder?

backlogitis-the games I've played over the last couple months are DmC, Metal Gear Revengance, and now Killer is Dead, with Deadpool and Dante's inferno next in cue. I never thought I'd get tired of slashing things, but i'm starting to get there...

How funny. I got Arkham Asylum when I first started Goozex and Ninja Gaiden 2 last month when VGFive ended.

Both are in my backlog.

All the Batman talk will make me want to play Asylum.

I can't play Ninja Gaiden 2 because Ninja Gaiden 1 is too busy kicking my ass. I will say that from the little I played of 2, it wasn't as frustrating.

Thanks for the heads up, I found out why too. Sad face

Yeah, there's no such thing as easy mode when it comes to a game series called Ninja Gaiden.

After seeing your list, I too have played most of those titles recently, and have Deadpool waiting for me. I think you should go with Deadpool next, as Dante's Inferno can get a bit repetitive rather quickly.

The closest thing to easy mode I've played of Ninja Gaiden was the DS version. The whole game was easier than 1 level of any of the console games.

Those are two quality games rumored for GWG.

However, I hope Ninja Gaiden isn't it.  The complaaaaaaaaaaaining from people about how difficult it is will be endless.

The Ninja Gaiden reboot game on original XBox is the ONLY game I've ever bought, played for a bit, and immediately re-sold as soon as possible because it was so hard to play.

If it is, I grab just about everything for GWG and... I don't know if I'd grab that.  I wouldn't ever play it.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is for hardcore gamers. You must have lightning quick reflexes and a mastery over the combat system to stand a chance against the CPU on its hardest settings. If you rage easily, stay away if you value your controller.

The moment you get surrounded by Spider ninjas SPAMMING explosive shurikens and you stand there frozen and exploding, you will want to slaughter whoever it was that designed the game.

Batman: Arkham Asylum I own both the vanilla and GotY (with separate cheezmints) and Ninja Gaiden II I already own the disc. So if that's the case for free game next month, meh, but then again it's easier to tell them what I don't own.

OK, the only way I've managed to parse this is "Ryse with the season pass is better than Ryse without the season pass", which doesn't really help. Not even sure if that is what you meant.
I was saying Ryse is bad, so I wouldn't waste money on DLC for it. Especially with that micro-transaction garbage all over the MP.

I hope you all are dirty stinking liars and we get a different set of games.

Seriously, is it too much to hope for a couple of really crappy games to be the GwG choices so they would be something I don't own already?!  :???:

">Ryse" means that? I decided not to buy the season pass on sale, since I haven't tried the game yet, and the dlc descriptions didn't make them sound like anything I'd miss.

It isn't just the reflexes part. The camera actively hides bad guys that will kill you amazingly fast in unavoidable ways if you cannot see them. They mostly fixed the camera when they retooled the first XBox one into Ninja Gaiden Black, then they re-broke it for part two. I don't mind a tough-but-fair game. But this is tough-but-cheap. Not only do you have to be good, but you also have to actively fight the game itself over the mechanics. It really isn't necessary.

I didn't really mind the pink armband signifying "easy mode" in Black. That's fine, shame me if I take that route. Or maybe have a bonus level or boss only if you beat it in normal or higher. Don't offer achievements in wussy mode. If you want to have cheap hits, don't have them take half your health bar in a flash. Sometimes I want to play a game like that that doesn't grind me up and spit me out. It could be a lot of fun to play if they offered that option. But NG2 (and the original 1) basically locks out the game past the 1st level or 2 unless it deems you worthy. I'm glad they have a tough difficulty for those that like it or myself if I'm in the mood for it. They just drive away potential fans though by not being able to dial it down. It's a single player game, it isn't like they harm anyone else by letting people take it a little easy on themselves if they choose to.

Given that many people will get their first exposure to Ninja Gaiden with the free download (if it happens), even fans of the game's difficulty should see the problem with this. It will hurt the ability to continue the franchise, as if part 3 didn't already to irreparable harm.

You think they'd put games that sold well and thus can be afforded to go into the free slot as Games for Gold? They're practically the newer Platinum Hits.

If the new GWG are Ninja Gaiden 2 and Batman AA then that's some quality stuff right there. I own both already but I'm used to that now lol.

I recently beat Batman AA (GOTY) and enjoyed it. I just need to beat it again on hard. Not sure I'd play the vanilla version again after since I wanna play Batman AC GOTY.

I haven't beaten NG2 yet. I don't remember why I stopped playing. You have to get used to constantly moving and blocking. Even then you'll die a lot. I enjoyed the heck out of the original and it took awhile to get out of a pure offensive mentality and work on defense and looking for an opening on enemies. What a rewarding game though.

I hope it's Ninja Gaiden 2, since I've been wanting to try that for a while but never was able to bring myself to buy a game I will most likely quit out of frustration after a few hours (if that).

Also because ninjas.

Here's the problem with GwG and being a CAGer. Any game remotely good and has already dropped and can be found easily for less than $20, we most likely already own.

So yeah, it has to either be a crappy game we'd pass on even at a steal of a price. Or something newer that's $30 or more and we've been waiting for an epic sale on it.

Unfortunately, MS is releasing mostly good games. But games popular and cheap enough that most people who had any interest in them already own them.

Not going to go down the PS+ path, other than to say it's better for cheap people like us. ;)
