Pokemon X and Y Announced!

Well I just finished my first Pokemon game since Silver back on the GB Color (beat the champion). I'll probably get back to my game later and try to fill up my pokedex and other post game stuff but Zelda has been teasing me on my shelf since Christmas so I want to get on that game now.

How close are you guys to completing your Pokedex? I completed mine last Friday and I was probably at high 500-low 600 hrs. This is my first Pokemon game though, so I'm pretty sure I went slower than if I was familiar with the series.
Wow that's a long time, you realize that means that since the game came out you have played for almost a whole month if you played straight? You have played that game for 15 40 hour weeks if you work a full time job, which is insane lol.

Got my Celebi.

I'm likely only in for event Pokemon at this point. I just don't feel like finishing the Pokedex.

lol. I usually have it on most of the day when I work. I'll try to catch shinies during the day in safaris and then breed, and actually play at night when I'm finished working and with everything else. I wish I actually had that much time to play. I know it took me a while to beat the game though. I tried to at least see all the pokemon in every zone and catch all the rare ones so I'd have less to catch up on afterwards.

I added myself to the spreadsheet. PM me here if you add me. I don't come to CAG much anymore, don't like the new layout and haven't been buying games much outside of Steam sales.

Finally beat Pokemon Y this morning. I enjoyed it but wasn't wowed. Have 303 in the Pokedex and just over 35 hours played. Don't really feel compelled to catch more or bother with breeding etc.

Bulbagarden > Serebii

In case you haven't heard, Diancie, a Rock/Fairy Pokemon, has been officially announced. It will be the main star of the next Pokemon movie, which is getting quite crowded with Xerneas, Yvetal, and whatever new Mega Evolutions will appear.

Managed to get several Legendaries, though had to buy a ton of Rare Candies via Global Link. Also traded my Gamatama (my Starter, a Greninja) for Mesprit. I feel dirty.

Also, deleting and re-installing Dream Radar allows me to capture a new Kami trio. Yay!

Can any of you guys explain to me what is so offensive about naming my Spoink "Baconator?" As great as the new innovations in this gen are, this censorship garbage has got to be the worst new thing they've introduced. Never mind that Pokemon like Weedle have names that are bannable to begin with. (try catching a Weedle and then rename it "Weedle")

Edit: I was wrong. Just found the censor list on Bulbapedia. It still sucks, and don't take back my venting though.

Haven't played pokemon since Gold and Crystal which are some of my favorite games all-time.  I'm going to get X/Y for sure since I got a 3DS from that Kmart deal, how do these stack up against the older games like Gold and Crystal?

Hey guys, I'm looking for friends, mostly for the friend safari. If anyone wouldn't mind adding me, my FC is 0001 3324 0623. If you add me, send me a PM with you FC so I can add back. Thanks!

I don't know if I have it in me to finish this game.

This happens every time a new Pokemon game comes out. "Oh, hey, this might be cool! Nostalgia, great!" And then I play it for like 10 hours and it is just a draaaag the rest of the way through.

This happened to me with Diamond/Pearl til Black 2 and White 2. The new look and amount of obtainable Pokemon in X and Y brought back the fun for me.

Because RELEVANT.

Nintendo announced a new offer. Register Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D Land, Yoshi's New Island, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Lego City Undercover, or Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D on Club Nintendo and get a digital version of X or Y for free. Valid March 1-March 31st so you have some time.

And I just registered half those games just a few weeks back.

Just got Pokemon Y. Can anyone direct me to a good place where I can learn about all the Pokemon, the different types and well basically everything I should and need to know about the game? Haven't played the series since the OG Red & Blue ones.

Pretty much depends on Xerneas/MegaCharizardX/MegaMewtwoX vs. Yvetal/MegaCharizardY/MegaMewtwoY.

Bunnelby is actually pretty cool once it evolves.

As I've been training it, Bunnelby has begun to grow on me. The name itself kills me though. I'm grinding out keeping each six Pokemon on my team in the same area, level wise. Anything anyone recommends doing at the beginning couple areas? Should I have the Pokemon at a certain level before hitting the first gym and is the training worth doing or not?

Finally "beat the game".

I haven't played since Crystal aside from owning R/S and playing a bit of FR/LG.  It seemed like this had a lot more traveling for the main-game, but it was also much "easier".

Some thoughts/rants/complaints:

  • 3D is not bad at all.
  • Some of these Pokemon ("new" to me and to XY) have such terrible designs and worse (English) names.
  • Why is the rival/neighbor's name not included as a trainer that beat the Gym Leaders as well?
  • I didn't realize TMs were unlimited use until maybe around 4-5th gym (apparently this started a few gens ago).
  • Not too fond of the new fishing mechanic (unless it's a mini-game why do I have to pay attention!).  I'm aware of fishing chains with PokeRadar post-game.
  • I hate how the map is, well to be more specific I don't like how the map is when using Fly.  It'd be nice if I could just scroll through locations and not just hope the touchscreen registers where the pressure occurs.
  • Barely any puzzles and all were simple that mashing/random moving would solve quickly.  I recall pusing boulders on "those small circles" for no reason back in the day and finding out it was a puzzle in Victory Road.  Also came upon some hidden area and pushed boulders in holes out of curosity and found a Pokemon that was an icon on screen (Articuno).
  • I wise there were an option to disable field animations - using Fly/Surf takes a bit longer now (also wished they were options upon selecting a Pokemon, not having to have to check moves).
  • Glad I found out XY mascots muct be caught so I saved after fainting it once to reset for a "flawless" one, but eventually settled for a decent one.
  • I guess there's no rechallenging trainers.  The cell phone or whatever from GSC was interesting (so was the sense of time, but that was just in GSC I think).
  • O-Powers are likely overpowered/broken if used for the obligatory battles.  Just wish I had used from the start so they'd be max level.

Soloing with Chesnaught was easier than I thought (still had others in party just to level up, HM slave, etc).  I picked Charmander as that was who I picked back in the day but haven't used in battle.

Elite 4 took a while (mainly as I waited to use EXP/Money O-Powers)
  - Fire lady was easy, Steel guy was a bit tricky so had to heal before fighting (would get to Scizor and faint), Dragon lady was hardest so had to use potions, and Water dude was easy once I healed prior.  The champion was easy, just had to heal before (Starmie's Physic only problem).  Chesnaught was lv 84 or 85 when I started and 87 when finished thanks to lv 2 EXP.  Had Shadow Claw, Rock Tomb, Bullet Seed, and Power Up Punch with Amulet Coin for those wondering.  I could have used Dragon Claw to OHKO Dragon lady's Dragalge - which did too much damge with Sludge Bomb which would prevent CHesnaught from surviving a Noivern Air Slash.

Wondering how the main game went for those that picked the other guys and just used them.  I would think Greninja would be the easiest to solo with (not Protean as that's Hidden Ability) as would outsped almost all.  Delphox would definately be a challenge.  I'm just considering Elite 4 and Champion as the Gym Leaders (forgot really) shouldn't pose a problem.

The reduction of puzzles is in response to Gen III and Gen IV, which overdid it and required many, many HMs, most annoyingly Rock Climb and Rock Smash. Permanent Strength boulders first appeared in Gen V.

As for the rival, it's never stated, but it's implied that, for whatever reason, they don't challenge the Gym Leaders like you do.

You can use the D-Pad with the map.

You think this fishing is bad you should have played Gen III's.

Re-challengeable trainers are in the Battle Chateu, which includes Gym Leaders and Elite Four members.

Damn, I can't get my free X or Y because I went online with both physical versions on my Nintendo Network ID, even though I haven't registered either one.

You sure because I just registered yesterday and it said I was one step away. Planning on picking up DKR3D tomorrow and yeah I've been online with the system since Black Friday. I actually forgot to register the system so I was hoping I'd get in on the promotion.

Well, I registered Lego City, but my free copy of X or Y did not appear in the To-Do List.

Then again, I have both physical versions.

Got me dude, registered my copy of DKCR 3D and got my download code for Pokemon X. Didn't know which one to get but X sounded good.

Edit: Crap, my 4 GB memory card is full lol...
