Hmm.. Odd. I thought the blue Vita was a GS exclusive wasn't it? I was at BBY today returning some smashed games i got (seriously, fuck you Best Buy) and went over to look at the game section before i left. In the vita section they had those empty display cases for consoles and they were all for an aqua blue vita

I thought it was supposed to be and still says it on their website.

Gamestop lied? how preposterous

Yea.. weird. Just checked GS's site after EoR's post and it does say exclusive. Im positive thats the one i saw on the shelf. The color was also called 'Aqua Blue' I dont see it on BBY's website though. So i guess its not really a GS exclusive. Next time one of you guys are in BBY take a look at the vita section and see if your store has them.  The color actually looked pretty decent in person. If it was cheaper i would snag one for my non-oled vita

Saw one of these at a local store today, found it odd since I thought they were GS exclusives.

I like reading all the posts but I do wish there were more deals going on. Not anyones fault here but come on Black Friday, I need more vita games. Seemed like for a good run I had vita games coming from amazon once a week because of this thread and thats dried up.

Considering Vita stuff is barely stocked at retail these days and there's no real showcase titles don't get your hopes too high for BF.

Wait, isn't the Gamestop exclusive version of the aqua blue Vita the one that comes opened with whatever vouchers were included removed?
Oddly enough, I just convinced my coworker to get a Vita, so his wife bought him a NEW Borderlands bundle at GS. Naturally, the box was already opened, the console was used, the voucher was redeemed, and the memory card was MIA. He ended up having to exchange it for the vanilla version since they were out of BL bundles. I'm amazed GS lets this crap happen.

Probably should have complained further and then he might have gotten a memory card and a retail copy of the game out of it... Or at the very least had another bundle sent over from another store. With a GS that's got that kind of shady crap going on though, who knows.

Also, the blue Vita could have just been a timed-exclusive. You know how companies like to be all ambiguous over such things... It was most definitely, at least for a time, very much an exclusive.

The system GS has in place is pretty bad, and will lead to these kinds of issues from time to time. When they gut new and used items, it's only a matter of time before the new gets mixed with the used. Their inventory at any given store is HUGE, and the employees have tons of busy work to do most days, along with actual retail sales, and most just don't care to give 100%.

They really should stop gutting new items, and this kind of problem would end, but at this point, it's probably to late for them to care. They are already starting to feel the digital only pinch, so in years to come, no telling how they will have to change their business model to stay alive, but I'm sure in maybe 10 more years, they will have closed maybe half the stores they currently have in operation.

Weird, the GS stores here doesn't put actual system boxes out on the floor.  They have generic boxes for handheld systems so you can see em, but they gotta pull a new system from a cabinet or the backroom.

Whatever the case most of my systems have come from walmart.

...

Went shopping last night and was able to hit a few stores for games... YMMV but I saw Fifa 14 & MLB 14 at Toys R US for $4.98 each.  I already had MLB14 so I grabbed Fifa and a $19.98 copy of the God of War collection.  I know it's the same price on Amazon right now but I liked being able to just get it right then without the wait.  Also of note, all of the Vita games they had were on a cardboard display sitting on a shelf like bargain bin games.  Nothing was actually in the glass cases so I was able to take a copy of each game to the price checker to see if there were any of the $0.03 stock left.  OF course there wasn't.

On the way home I hit a GS store and managed to finally find Asphalt Injection ($15) and Resistance Burning Skies ($10) in complete and acceptable condition.  Asphalt is one of my favorite racing series since the traditional Burnout franchise is gone.  Injection ended up being the second physical cart game I setup on my Vita and it's a heck of a good racing experience in the same vein as Burnout.  It's weird how difficult that was to find in the wild, the only other copies I had seen to that point had either non-original cases or were so damaged with the art and case that I passed on the purchase.  Getting a new copy on Amazon is $50... a used copy with the box & art is a minimum of $23.45 ... so $15 was actually a decent bargain being that I could see what I was buying and judge the condition.

I will try to get a copy of Breach & Clear when the sales start.  If it proves impossible... then I probably will just not bother trying to get any of the other games they publish.  I imagine game #3 will be the Vita version of Saturday Morning RPG.   Hopefully they have some limit to the number a person can buy.

This game has shot up in price in the last couple of months. You could get it for ~$20 new up until June or so. Then prices jumped to $50 new. I'd been monitoring it on Amazon for awhile since I wanted to pay ~$10, but after it started going up I settled on a complete used copy on ebay for ~$20.

Wait.... So they gut new systems too? All of them?
YMMV. The GS around me (all 3 of them) don't gut anything. Only generic cases and used games are on the shelf. When you bring a case up front they either pull a new one out of the drawer or grab one from the back room.

Granted I haven't been with the company for roughly a year, but I have not heard of this. I still talk to a few employees regularly (one I'm pretty good friends with) so I'll see what he has to say... But I'm wondering if the system the person picked up was a return and the employee taking in the return didn't set it as defective.

Yea. I hope thats a fluke return... Never heard of them opening actual systems before. Im concerned because i might pickup the forza bundle tomorrow and i have no other choice but to go to gamestop for it (trade in reasons)

Btw.... Rakuten has the vita on sale for 149.99. Not even bothering with posting up a thread cause everyone would bitch and complain that it should be 29.99 by now

One reason I refuse to buy from GS.. "New", isn't.

That bad Borderlands 2 bundle sounds like someone scammed the store by buying one then swapping out the guts with a heavily used system and keeping all the new stuff for themselves and returning it.

Makes me feel even better that I got it at $15. The only negative to my copy is the box has a lot of sticker residue on it, but I have goo gone for that stuff and am an old pro at cleaning up used game boxes back to new condition. The main thing is the art and cart are perfect and this was one game I seriously wanted. I'm just glad my high level of passion for the series wasn't let down at all... the levels I played last night were excellent. I did have to figure out how to delete the save data from the cart so I could make it trophy eligible, but that turned out to be just deleting the install to clear the data and then reinstalling it.

People, please... let's not let this get into yet ANOTHER GS bash... we have better things to do.

I'm gonna try to get the Breach & Clear when it goes up. Hopefully I can get in and that they do have a limit on how many you can buy.

We may want to change the name of this thread to Cheap & Rare Vita games thread cause it seems like every physical cart coming for Vita is only going to be a limited release and that's understandable, unfortunately.

Is Asphalt Injection good? I've never played any of the games in the series but I know it's a mobile game too, so I dunno.

Not ymmv on the Toys R Us games. They're that price at all stores. Lego Hobbit is also $4.98 and I think one other game.

It's not bad. I wasn't expecting the racing to feel as good as it did, but I eventually stopped playing it once the ridiculous rubber-banding AI plus insanely-high probability of crashing even if you just touch a wall at the wrong angle while not even going that fast made one career event almost impossible to win.

It's like old school Burnout games on the PS2 and PSP mixed with a tiny bit of the drifting from older Ridge Racer games. It's an arcade racer not a sim. If you like that kind of stuff it's gold, if you don't then you won't. There is some rubberband AI but no worse than Ridge Racer or Burnout. I think the AI is just tuned to make the races a little more exciting and so far it works. I think I read there are 100 events in the career mode, many of which will require replaying as there are secondary goals beyond just finishing first. Some events are pure racing, some are knockout races, then there are cop chases, and so on. Secondary goals might be just forcing some number of opponents to wreck (classic takedown), drifting a certain amount or whatever. It adds a lot to the replay as does being able to unlock better cars and performance upgrades to replay the levels with.

For me, this game is gold, for the reviewers out there... most of them graded it really bad though it makes absolutely no sense to me. Yes walls are your enemy and like those old Burnout games there is a very good chance you'll crash while learning the tracks. But it's nothing unusual beyond what other racing games have.

For Vita other than old games getting clearanced, most physical copies of Vita games seem to rarely drop much in price and are in limited release. Such is the life for Vita.

Sweet! Myt wallet is already hating me for pledging on Muv Luv though, and still got to order Breach & Clear when it goes on sale Thursday morning.

Sorry but Burnout Legends and Dominator are way better than Asphalt Injection. Injection feels marginally better than the first couple Asphalt mobile games. Which were only good for the time they were first released (and I really liked Asphalt on the HP TouchPad).

No...well, some people HAVE gotten opened systems (and if you DO buy a system there and the seal is broken, you should totally walk away)... But my "opened with vouchers removed" comment was more a somewhat vague reference to the infamous Deux Ex debacle like 4 years ago (where Gamestop ordered their employees to open all PC copies of Deus Ex Human Revolution and remove and destroy the vouchers for a free OnLive copy of the game)...and, you know, maybe a slight reference to other stuff they've done. But I didn't mean to imply that all consoles there are gutted...was just making a joke in reference to itzd4n's tongue-in-cheek "Gamestop lied? How preposterous" comment. Sorry...didn't mean to accidentally hit the CAG "panic" button.

Ah, I forgot about the Muv Luv Kickstarter! Need to get in on that too.

Sometimes I question whether this site was appropriately named.

I do want to get Cosmic Star Heroine though.
That's why I said we should change the name of the thread to cheap and rare because it's going to get harder to get Vita games on the cheap now that the buzz is about getting Vita games physical and low print runs and Kickstarters... too many factors to make physical Vita games more limited and desirable, all the while keeping the prices from dropping now.

Though I appreciate physical copies of games way more than digital, the companies making these limited physical runs know these factors all too well. Not gonna lie, it's a fun console to collect for... for now.
