Nioh - 'Bloodshed’s End' DLC - September 26th

Beta Demo Survey Results

I think the only negative I mentioned was the twilight bosses. There should be something more challenging added to the bosses rather than just mob trash such as the boss having additional attacks.
"Add Boss attack variations in the Twilight Missions." :D/ Hopefully, a respec option will come through.

I'm still hoping for a physical version of the digital deluxe edition, but it seems unlikely at this point. At least the dynamic theme is neat. :)

its funny, the one time i would actually drop money on a deluxe version and its digital only. lol. their loss.

As someone who is all digital I don't necessarily mind all that much that the Deluxe is only digital but at the same time I feel like this game could have a really awesome statue and art book and so it is a bummer we won't be getting a big package like that.

man, i wanna play but i wanna save everything i can for the official release. I DUNNO WHAT TO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I will just do whatever I can for the Ogress Mask and that is it. Since we all should have the other stuff hopefully from the previous alpha/beta we just need to complete the main mission according to their info and nothing more then.

I for one will be filled with action games this month... Nioh, Horizon, Nier and For Honor.... so many things to cut up with swords... hahah : P

I completed the demo including the side-mission and the twilight mission.

I tried out the new Kusarigama weapon and thought it was really nice. The heavy and low stances are very effective in combos and range. I can see it being a useful pvp weapon because the move-sets are quick and unpredictable.

It was hard to judge the range which the attacks come out when I fought Revenants that used them. Either way, it's a nice addition to something that is a mix between dual katanas' speed and the spear's range.

Now for the boss of the demo. I thought the Ogress boss was way too easy since it can be exploited by being close. It also has an even more simple move-set than the Onryoki boss from the Alpha and Beta version. I was pleased with it's twilight version though since it was given 2-3 more attacks, but not enough to make it any more difficult. At least, they didn't throw in random enemies like in the beta.

As for some of the changes. The new crafting system will definitely add some longevity to the main game. Breaking down weapons that are no longer useful to you instead of just selling them. The option to be able to pick your armor and weapon's appearance for cheap gold is a welcome addition.

There is only one armor set that contains a set bonus and that is the Warrior of the West. This has been toned down a lot from what was in the Beta where almost everything had a set bonus. The drop rates on receiving unique weapons or armor has been lowered immensely as well. It's not that bad though.

Overall, I'm happy with lots of the changes. Anyway, I know my final build for the game so I can't wait.  :D

Like Supplice said the Kusarigame seems like it could really be fun in PvP since it is so unpredictable. I was running Dual Katanas and the Kusari this time with the demo and it was a fun set up, getting in close and fast with the katanas then hopping back out for a quick swing or two with the Kusari.

Overall I am really digging it, though I didn't really expect to NOT be digging it haha but rather I guess I am glad to see the changes they keep making are positive ones. I liked the new bird yo-kai... already forgot the name.

Were the mimics random by the way? I never ran into a mimic until the very end where you have the two chests behind the bird yo-kai I just mentioned. I was in chat with LinkinPrime though as he was trying it out and he ran into a mimic in one of the first chests early on in the mission.

Speaking to that I am very glad they did this demo not just because I am getting antsy for the full release and this was a nice little appetizer but also because it seems to be getting more media exposure since it is right before release. I have seen a bunch of people talking about it on social media and gaming news sites covering it right before release should hopefully make for larger sales and a more lively online community. I want this game to succeed and become a series in itself and so the more people playing the better those chances are!

They may be random. I encountered both of mine in the same location on the normal and twilight versions. It was near the third shine in the shack on the right side of the river, immediately after the tree shortcut. I plan on playing with a new character to help out some friends later so I'll update if mimics show up anywhere else.

**Found a mimic behind the Owl-Yokai on normal and the same place I mentioned on twilight. Maybe it isn't random, but possibly a set of chests they can potentially come out of. Also, you can communicate with the mimic via emotes.

Just played through the Twilight Mission last night and then replayed the normal mission and the Mimics were in different spots each time. My first run through it was behind the Owl Yo-Kai. The Twilight had him up in the chest by the Samurai who pushes the boulder down onto the little zombie-miners. Then my last normal run through the Mimic was in the shack under the little grave by the one shrine. Weird. I like the idea of them being totally random though, keeps you always on your toes. We shall see!

Also I had a question. For the big red yo-kai with the swords or axes or with crystals on their backs in the Twilight Missions... they explode. I have fought them normally and they just die but I also found that if I use my one Oni Spell to call in my little fire dog to do a quick assist if I hit him with two right in a row he just falls over and explodes regardless of health. What exactly is the mechanic at play there?

Also, please excuse my terrible Nioh jargon hahah I have played the alpha and beta and now demo far too much but for some reason since it isn't a full game yet my brain is like "I dont need to remember names of things" : P

I have no idea about that one. I never had one randomly explode on me. Maybe it was using projectiles that somehow did it?

In case anyone is wondering about elements and their status effects (from fextralife).

  • Fire - Damage over time
  • Lightning - Slows attack speed and movement / chance to stun
  • Earth - Increases Ki cost
  • Water - Reduces Physical Defenses and stacks elemental build up
  • Wind - Lowers the target's break-resistance and parry
  • Poison - Fast damage over time.
  • Paralysis - Prevents action until effect wears off, an item is used or the inflicted is hit.
There is one not mentioned there that I use frequently called: Discord: Applying two elements to an enemy (Lightning, Earth, Water, or Wind) that causes rapid Ki-Depletion and prevents Ki-Regeneration. This is absolutely devastating on bosses. Try to use this with two weapons that have different innate elements, living weapon, or guardian spirit talisman.

From what I used, I love water and fire. :D Water helps elemental build-up which makes it easy to apply Discord while lowering physical defense and fire has a powerful DOT despite the short duration.

As for the others. I found lightning to really only work on big Oni. The smaller ones made no difference in speed. Also, it rarely stuns even when using dual katanas. Earth is good if you want Revenants to run out of stamina faster than usual since all they do is spam attacks non-stop. It doesn't work so much on yokai because of their ability to summon a yokai realm and it's redundant due to 'Discord.'

*Lighting does work on small yokai in retail version.

It's rare to find a wind innate weapon so I couldn't test it out properly. As for poison, it has a long DOT, but it's nowhere near powerful as fire. At least certain enemies are weak to it which sometimes makes it better than fire. Lastly, for paralysis, it doesn't seem worth it since it is removed once the enemy is hit. The proc rate for the element is also very low.

I took at that he was a fire Yo-Kai and by me adding more fire damage in such a short time he overheated? Haha seems silly but it could be a thing I guess. Either way it made dealing with them easy as heck, especially just for quick farming for the ones that are right by the shrines. While having Kato as my Guardian it took two Guardian Spirit Talisman attacks to kill them then even in the Twilight mission. And no I hadn't leveled up my spirit other than like 7 so it wasn't that I was crazy strong with it haha. I would just go to the shrine, take a few steps, throw out my two Kato Attacks and bam dead, rinse and repeat hah

And I had no idea about the Discord debuff! That is awesome and definitely good to know. I hadn't played with the elemental and status effects all that much so I appreciate the analysis : )

Now to just somehow sit and wait for the full release.... I think I am almost more hyped for this than I was with Dark Souls III...

Since they nerfed the spirit stat from the Beta, there currently is no reason to take it higher than 12. At 12, you get all the passives for the spirits and a nice buff to the "Vs. Yokai Realm" stat.

I found out two things I didn't notice before.

1) When the mimic comes out, it will perform a gesture. If you do the same gesture as the mimic, it will give you a new gesture and the items from the chest without fighting. If you don't have the gesture, then do any gesture so that it will get mad and fight you. After you kill it, it will give you the gesture and the items from the chest. If you attack it on sight though, then you will only get the items.

2) When playing coop and going through the Torii gate, I noticed you can search by difficulty level. However, it's locked at "Way of the Warrior." So there may be more higher difficulties in the main game. :whee: :D/

You're welcome for the element info. :D

Mimic info
AHHH!

That makes sense about the gestures, another awesome find haha. The first time I saw one I messed around with it and did gestures to it and then it attacked and after I got his gesture. The other times I just attacked it straight away and didn't get any gesture and just figured it was because I had already gotten one... I am loving all the random stuff like this they have in the game!

just watched a guy on youtube beat the whole demo bare handed with nothing but parrys lol. i mean, yeah, good job, but man what a boring way to play the game.

I can dig it. I normally never care about Platinuming or 100% on XBL but I have a strong feeling I will get this Plat.

Anyone know what time the digital pre-order will be playable? Hoping it will be magically earlier than later but who knows.

*edit*

Store page was recently updated and states it will be available to play at 12am EST. Perfect!

This is the first new release in a long while that I am actually having a hard time concentrating on work and stuff today because I want to play this so badly. I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve hahah : P

The Isle of Demon stage nerf is real. There are fewer enemies than I'm used to.

Yeah I blazed through that level. I like how the sub-missions utilize the same areas but tweak them enough by closing off areas and what not. Obviously all new areas would be ideal but I like that they are able to reuse stuff because that just means more stuff to play!

Didn't get to start Nioh right at midnight like I had planned but still haven been playing quite a bit now and am loving it just as much as I knew I would! : D Wish I could just keep playing!!

Before I stopped, I managed to finish everything in the first region before the departure. O:) However, I think I have like one kodama missing in two areas so I'll have to get back to that soon.

I liked how the side-missions introduce you to different types of enemies or have different objectives. I just expected to always face Oni at the end so it was a nice change of pace.

Grabbed it and only got to play about 30 minutes.  My brain and fingers are still locked into Souls mode.  I think I died 3 times with the first person outside the gate....simply because my fingers and brain could not put the right keys together.  Happened a few times later but with less dire consequences.

Fun game and I look forward to diving in the next two nights after work.

For the Clan feature, I went with Furuta (Luck +40, Silver Tongue +10%) since the only two guardians I really use are Daiba-washi or Itokuri. The Itokuri spider guardian is thee best for farming and that is all it's good for. I'll use Daiba-washi if I want some slight combat buffs, but still maintain a huge luck boost. It's pretty neat getting purples to drop frequently and I'm not struggling at all in combat to change yet.

I am very annoyed I have been working over time and in the process of interviewing for new positions AND dealing with some health issues along with insurance troubles.

I just want to call in sick and play Nioh all day... : (

I went with the Furuta clan for luck as well. I still use Isonade though because I don't have enemy sense on any of my equipment, but change out prior to the boss whenever I feel it necessary if I know what the bosses elemental weakness is. I only had trouble with one boss, which was the boss at the final level of the second area. I was just completely off my game doing completely stupid stuff for far too long. I think I'm at the third level for the third area now.

Up until the third area, I used the same armor which was rather amusing. After I finally upgraded (re-crafted it at higher level), the damage that was being dealt to me lessened quite a bit. I liked the set bonus, which is why I kept it. So, yeah, upgrade armor.

Still disappointed with how co-op works as it's not how they had it in the beta. I really hope they patch it back as it's a rather dick'ish bait and switch. Though I did play some last night with a friend and apparently whenever I joined a clan I noticed I had like 3K glory which was pretty crazy. I guess most of it came from playing co-op even though we did fight a ton of player revenants to up his ochoko supply.

EDIT: I did get some weird lag while in Action Mode during co-op with a friend in the second half of the third level in the first area.

It doesn't seem like they will patch it according to this.

“You cannot co-op through the entire game because that would make it too easy for players to beat the game,” said Tom Lee, creative director at Team Ninja in an emailed statement. “We want players to experience Nioh in how it was intended to be. We allowed players to co-op anytime in the last trial demo only because of the limited stages and time to try out the demo.”

I read that too after I posted and that's really disappointing. Bosses can be a pain in co-op because of latency/rubber-banding, but yeah, the rest is fairly easy. However difficulty should really be players choice and if not, then they should have made it clear that they were changing it prior to release.

Semi spoilers on a boss on what I believe is main mission 5?... just a big rant regardless.

So... the level in the mines can go eff itself. First off, poison levels are dumb. ALWAYS. Never fun, always dumb. Pair that with the mechanic of using the fans but not telling you how much time is left on the fans... super dumb. All of that would have been excused however if the boss were not the most uninspired technically broken POS I have played in a game in a long while. First time it got stuck inside the geometry of a ramp... and it popped out of it and killed me. Second time the thing got COMPLETELY glitched into that same ramp. The head would randomly pop out and swipe and you could see legs sticking out on the sides but the only time you could damage was when he reared his head back. I was like fine whatever I will just kill him like this. NOPE. After I got him to half health (and repeatedly going back and fourth with the freaking fan) the centipede got stunned, dropped further into the glitch and now only had its pincers sticking out of the side of the rock and the hair flailing out the top. I could not hit a single part of it, but it could still hit me whenever I even got NEAR it. Finally I just stabbed myself in the gut and restarted.

Now I finally got to actually fight the thing and see how dumb the fight is. First off the poison/fan mechanic is just tedious on a boss fight. Pair that with the fact that the centipede literally can twist and turn THROUGH HIS OWN GEOMETRY. I would be hitting his butt and somehow his head twisted and went directly through the body and hit me through his ass. He did that countless times. Well at least there are ledges you say, easy drop damage to take him down quickly. WRONG AGAIN! His hit-boxes are so broken that FOUR times I dropped from above and landed RIGHT ON TOP OF HIM and no damage registered, instead I did a weird slide thing down his body or just went through entirely. Fuuuuuuuddggeeeeee.

If I never have to play that freaking thing again it will be too soon... BUT I WILL... because I was so annoyed with the poison mechanics I didn't explore and get all the Soup Head Qdoba (yes I know their name but that is what they are to me hahah)

The level and boss aren't even hard. They are just annoying and add an artificial difficulty (or rather tedium) to what is otherwise an amazing game. I probably would not be bothered by such a problem in most other games but I have such high views on this title that it is just a super bummer to get so annoyed with an area. I am not mad at Team Ninja, just disappointed they even had the gall to put this in their game.

Wow!  Well, I didn't experience that since I just fought it up on where the fan was and just ran around the pillar attacking.

Also, here is something I found out about elements. The stances affect the power and duration of whatever is applied. So low stance will put elemental effects on faster, but it will be weaker and diminish more quickly than if high stance was used. Medium stance for best of both worlds.  :)

They also seem to have buffed the lightning element a little bit from the beta since I noticed the slow down actually affecting smaller enemies. Although, usually those enemies are dead by the time buff gets applied.

Just to make it apparent if not before. Using an elemental talisman on a weapon with an innate element attribute will override it for the duration and not stack. Using the same elemental talisman with it will stack though. Ex) Lighting talisman with lighting katana. You can also stack it further with Guardians for elemental builds.

Lastly, complete side missions. They unlock Guardians, smithing recipes, weapons, and rare items.

Here's a very helpful tip for the mines if you didn't figure it out:

[customspoiler='Mine Mission Mechanics Spoilers']
In each of the "poison" areas, there are 1 to 2 stones that emit the poison gas. You can destroy these permanently to stop the poison from generating entirely. It negates the need to keep re-using the fan. The boss is slightly special apart from the rest and will regenerate one stone per "break." So be on the lookout for it after separating the boss to destroy it quickly. [/customspoiler]

Thanks yeah I did figure that out, I still despise poison levels in games though regardless hahah

And dang, that is a bunch of solid digging on the elemental damage!

What is everyone running as their main weapons?

I generally use the Kusarigama and then swap to Dual Katanas. I am REALLY excited to see how PvP works with all the weapons at our disposal.

I just love elemental damage and causing Discord on everything. :)

As for main weapons, my first playthrough was with the Katana and Spear. Now, I'm using Dual Katanas and the Heavy Axe. I'm used to Dual Katanas and their arts from the Beta. However, I definitely need more practice with the Heavy axe since I generally avoided it and the Kusarigama.

So I'm on the final sub-mission at the end of the first continent before setting sail.  It's called "A request from Ginchiyo".   So I'm in the catacombs and there is wall of stones that looks like you can break through but I can't figure out how to get into this hidden room.  There is a very long staircase going up facing the door.  I was hoping some Yokai would Indiana Jones a giant boulder down to break the door. Anyone know how to get in?

There's two missions on that map. One with a boulder, one without. I don't remember which is which unfortunately.

The door your talking about is just a shortcut to the front room if I remember correctly though.

I just went through that mission real quick to see. It's not available in that mission it seems. Even throwing bombs at it didn't do anything. There is another future mission that takes you back there, and I believe it will be available then.

So the first two missions are today's twilight missions. I didn't have all the Kodama on the second one, so I went through it as a twilight mission and found the remaining ones. However it didn't alert me that I found all of the Kodama in the mission when I picked up the last one. Not sure if it's a bug of intended, but just a heads up if you plan to use twilight missions to find your remaining Kodama.

More tips. :)

When attacking near cliff, do not touch the L3 stick. You will not fall off while attacking this way unless the enemy hits you or you dodge/move.

Dissembling armor and weapons will allow you to gain more money by selling the extracted materials than just the item itself. If you plan on going into NG+ (Way of the Strong), then do not sell the materials. It's better to convert them all into purple materials to craft perfected weapons. Money comes easily enough by just playing and completing missions.

Additionally, use the touch-pad so you can sell or dissemble armors/weapons by rarity. That way, you don't have to individually click everything.

Don't bother with Soul-Matching since the cost will eventually sky rocket the higher level you become. It's fine for low levels though.

Even if you don't use other weapons, their skill tree passive will always remain with you even if your not using it. Ex) The axe giving +100 life branch.

Prestige points that you gain from titles are permanent when you allocate them. Choose wisely.

Quick question, do you get all the skill points from the locks of hair you used if you respec? I haven't actually used any of the locks yet, since I'm pretty sure I will respec (not nuts over dual-swords, which I started with).
