Went to trade in some things I got during the weekend to payoff the Nintendo Switch and sure enough they are charging tax now in Texas. Not cool.

I think it depends. If you are only ever boomerang games then it doesn't really help GS. But if you transfer credit out to like BB and then bring it back then they absolutely do. They get money from the used games you buy and remove from their store and then get more stock in. They might give you a good deal on the games you trade in but it's because they know they will sell it to someone else eventually for a higher price.
Boomerangs obviously don't help GS at all and so I didn't even go there. :)

But if you are only bringing them games whose trade-in values are out of whack and only buying games when prices are out of whack, do you really think you are making them any money?

I don't think you're keeping the lights on. :)

They don't just count on selling the game to someone else to make money. They count on making money on the credit you spend. That's why they eliminated Amazon cards and then Ebay and gas cards. That's why cash isn't the same as credit.

If you look at a bell curve of GAmestop customers, I'd say many of us here are on the extreme end of that curve where the graph reads "least desirable customer." :) On the other extreme, are the ones that trade and spend a lot and never look up the price of any game and buy the $55 used copy instead of the $60 new, buy the protection plans, preorder etc etc

I don't think we're the whales at all here in GAmestop's eyes.

Anyone know if I could trade in a Hori Fighting Stick 3 for PS3 (it's USB wired)? Can't find it as an option in their trade values page. Wasn't sure if it fit under any other categories.

It might fit under generic wired controller if there's not a specific one for it.

Actually $5.50 base and $8.80 if you trade towards Switch game or accessory. It is PS3 Controller under Accessories.

Thanks for the info guys! That's not a huge difference between GS and Amazon, but I do want to buy a 128GB card for the Switch from Amazon so maybe I'll put it towards that.

if it's over $5, just ask them to scan the $5 bonus trade in card. easy $10 without any switch preorder (if he's not interested in any of it).

He didn't mean Xbox or PSN credit, he meant an actual downloadable game where they send you a code to redeem it. Like this: http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-one/games/halo-5-guardians/119595

In which case, yes, you will have to pay tax. Unless of course you pay with store credit and live in a state where purchases made with store credit aren't taxed
I wonder if I could have saved tax last week. I bought a digital game with my credit on GameStop.com and was charged tax. Usually when I buy physical games in store they don't tax me on the amount I pay with credit.

Replied to the email for getting that new PUR card and losing my trade credit on Friday. I got a reply telling me to call the number on the back of the card. I just got off the phone, and they said it would be 3 business days to get a resolution. I'm doubtful it will get resolved that fast, but I need this credit for the Switch release.

I am not sure if this has been covered. Will you get the extra trade in if you put in an existing preorder? I put 5 bucks down on Mario kart 8 deluxe. Now I can put in another 5 bucks down on the same order when I do another trade correct?

Does GameStop still take in the little mic/ear bud thing that comes with the PS4? I remember everyone talking about it, but I'm not sure what it's called to look it up

You probably would have been charged tax for the online purchase with trade credit then also. Texas stores just recently started charging tax on in-store purchases, however www.gamestop.com has been charging tax on online purchases forever. I think that means that they charge tax for everyone everywhere when they buy from the website, regardless of your state's tax disposition on in-store purchases.

Some jr detective tried me today. Refurbed all of my higher value items and tried to distract me by scanning the lower trade items last so they wouldn't show on the screen.

Then added this quirky comment "people usually have a hard time finding these games, but you have so many".

So I politely looked through the screen, to her surprise because I knew you could scroll on the touchscreen, and asked her to remove each game she refurbed. The look of disappointment she had is undescriable.

Lost 115 in credit over 20 in refurb fees trying to be slick

I need to remember to check the touch screen for any refurb fees in case any employees try to screw me over. I didn't know you could scroll. lol

Anyone ever order a Wavebird from Gamestop.com? I have around $30 of credit to burn and I think I'd use my gamecube a lot more if I had a wireless controller.
I have not ordered one recently. When they were clearing out gamecube stuff a few years ago and a bunch of wireless gamecube controllers came up for order online. I ordered one and I received a wavebird. The shoulder button was kind of sticky but it was fairly cheap

Neither did I

It really comes down to how you treat the employees and how the employees perceive what you are doing. My 1 local store knows who I am and the managers know that I am bringing them items that aren't stolen, broken, etc. I also am upfront with them when they ask questions. The only times I have gotten flagged are doing a return at another store in the same district (same day, my own stupidity) and trading in XB1 power supplies too many times in 1 year (was trading 3 a month like clockwork while the GS->Ebay train was still going. Each store and district has varying levels of stuff they deal with and each have managers and district managers that have different goals. If you want to have any success with what we discuss in this thread, you need to get a feel for which stores/districts are the ideal ones for you to trade/flip.

So far at my store I've used CAG advice to fund a Wii U, Multiple 3DSs, lots of meals (via GCs, Darden is clutch), a PS4, and a ton of games and CEs for maybe $300 or so out of pocket over the last 3 years. The local store gets tons of business, I get tons of stuff, and we all win. But it all started with being up front and friendly with the staff.
Funny thing about the girl that I believe flagged me...if anything, I was the more polite one during all 3 tradeins with her. I'm the one that went to the counter each time and asked how her day was going (kind of a habit due to my own line of work, being nice gets you way further!). She, on the other hand, was rather cold and emotionless (typical GS employee?).

In the end though, I'll chalk this whole thing up as a lesson learned. By the way, if my account was flagged at that store, can other stores see the same thing? Other stores in other districts?

Also, if GS was the giving kind, it would've instead given the DS/Vita cases and/or game artwork away, instead of throwing them in garbage.
My gamestop handed me 15 ds cases with manuals that they were going to throw away because they know I'm a stickler for great condition games/cases.

I didn't even ask. I walked in to buy a game and the clerk said 'hey, you love your games complete and in nice shape, do you want these before we toss them out?'

I took them all.

I was going to go to Game Stop and pick it up after trading a game (Same game) in at Best Buy. But Best Buy took too long and I wanted to get a drink before going back to work. Doubt I will be buying any digital games from Game Stop any time soon (I think this was my first and only to date). But if there is a next time and I have credit I will try in store.

She does NOT want the D. Sorry dude.

I never said there aren't any good people left - I'm simply stating that the corporate GS is not the same as the store GS. If you ask an employee, (s)he will say that they were told to get rid of the cases. You were lucky that your store had some sensible people. Congrats!

Got my trade credit back. Only took a 5 minute call to the number on the back of the trade card. Woman (in India?) said my charge was stuck in "authorization" and she would have that status removed. 10 minutes later all was back to normal.

Keep a close eye on that balance. I had a similar problem and my balance would get stuck in limbo days later again. My solution is to just wipe out my gift card balance and ask for a replacement once my available balance is gone so as to minimize my exposure.

Immediately spent it once it was back.

Is there a item purchase limit on GS.com before they flag your account as a reseller? I know the unofficial policy for Bestbuy its 3 for both GCU and non-GCU items.

Would it be fine to trade in Just Dance 2017 for multiple platforms at the same time? Like 4 platforms?
It depends on the employees at the store. I would do 2 per platform as I never get bothered with it but there a few stores around me that don't give a shit whatsoever and I do 4 across all platforms at those stores for example when the just dance 2016 games were on sale at BB a few weeks ago.
