Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

Usually sentiments like this are for games which were missing features or felt incomplete. Zelda is neither of those things, and at least in this situation, much like Smash Bros, they've been working on the DLC content post-launch instead of itemizing out things that were ready to go at launch.
Yeah, I've put over 100 hours into the game and still have one guardian left and a few shrines to find and a bunch of side quests and upgrades to complete. I've more than got my money's worth from the game.

The retail market is still too big for that, and a lot of casual people who don't follow release dates or industry news often see games in the store and realize they exist - especially for holiday stuff. I think there will always be a market for physical media, but I also think fewer games will get released that way as time goes on as digital distribution becomes even more common and widespread.

Fair enough I was more just poking holes in the notion that Nintendo is somehow above this practice he was pointing out, I didn't even bring up Splatoon.

Off the top of my head I like...Elder scrolls/fallout games, the first two high moon transformers games, destiny, the mass effect series, pvz2, dragon age games, gtav (though I played that mostly on my ps3), saints row 1, 2, 3, state of decay, halo single player. I own 227 games digitally on the One alone, so odds are I must like some of them.
That's a good list! Some of my top games are in there too. Not sure if you've explored the Witcher series, but I recommend the 3rd one to you in particular based on your list. Fallout (esp the 3rd one) and Far Cry 3 are a couple more if you haven't tried them.

They could just release these games into the nether but they're giving each game a good chance with marketing and possibly building hype with a staggered schedule. That to a small development team has gotta be huge.
Agreed, and it will help Microsoft to lavish some love on their developer community so this is win/win all around.

I'd be pretty mad, though, if I was the kind of person to spend $60 on release and then another $30 on the season pass, only for all of that content to be $15 a year later.
That was my first thought too. Sort of like a bargain basement GOTY edition, or a cheap Complete edition where the original DLC never goes on sale for early adopters. I'm used to it now, but makes my Day One purchases few and far between (hence CAG I guess.)

They definitely went from "we don't do DLC, a game at retail should be complete" to "okay here's some DLC." A least in many instances, the content has been robust and reasonably priced. Mostly thinking of MK8, the new tracks were wonderful and they were very cheap compared to the rest of the industry. The Zelda pass feels very optional, I'm not missing out if I don't get it.

Then again, the Smash Bros characters are way over-priced, IMHO, but licensing plus development plus profit is a thing.

So much for buying real discs to own your games. This, much more than the convenience of it, is what is slowly and reluctantly pushing me to digital 'ownership'.

It makes me thankful of Nintendo's 'behind the times' attitude. What they press onto a disc is a finished product and the game they set out to make. Other publishers' discs are no more than a digital licence.
Eh, I'm gonna have to disagree here. I know it's stupid, because it's just tied to the system, but I've bought all my 1st Party Nintendo products, sans physical bonuses like an Amiibo or Balance Board, digitally for my Wii U. I'd rather just go through my Nintendo gaming library and pick what I want to play without having to deal with; ejecting the disc, finding the case, opening up another case, popping out the disc from said case & inserting disc into system to play the new game. There's always that lingering notion you have to play what's in your system via disc and as someone who hops from one game to the next I do tend to enjoy that luxury via a digital library. Nintendo will have big updates, just give it 2 years because that's how far back they are from the two.

Just played the destiny beta. I never played the first so I'm curious; was the first one this boring? The beta only last an hour tops and it was the same crap the entire time. I'm assuming the first wasn't as boring since it had such a huge following?

I have nothing against patches. Some bugs will always slip unnoticed and now they can be fixed post-release. Great!

On DLC, however, I have mixed feelings. Some of it reeks of greed and cynicism. Luckily, it can largely be ignored.

My irk is when a game completely changes after being pressed onto a disc. If it's because the online portion of it had to be revamped or rebalanced, fine. But when a game is released uncooked and then needs to be completely overhauled - from textures to animations to cutscenes - owning a disc means owning half of a game.

I'm sure Doom isn't the worst offender of this but I'll refrain from listing examples.

Just played the destiny beta. I never played the first so I'm curious; was the first one this boring? The beta only last an hour tops and it was the same crap the entire time. I'm assuming the first wasn't as boring since it had such a huge following?
If you think this one was boring, you should have seen the first one at launch.

I just played the destiny beta Last night also and I would describe it as Blah. Feels like some more DLC version any kind of "next" Version of the game. I'm definitely convinced I don't need to purchase it now.

I won't complain about free updates like this, however, which give out free content, and if you never play online you could just cancel the download completely. I'd be pretty mad, though, if I was the kind of person to spend $60 on release and then another $30 on the season pass, only for all of that content to be $15 a year later.
The update is multiplayer so, if I play that mode, I want the multiplayer to be active. The season pass giveaway is to spark up more players on a dying game so it's welcome to everyone that owns it.

Nintendos DLC has been only contributed positively to their games. It all feels well thought out and I don't believe any of it is built into the game, day1, like Activision does with Destiny and COD. Well worth the few dollars to enjoy more of a good thing.

Amiibos are definitely a cash grab though.

Uh first one at launch was fantastic. It was a great game until the first big wall became more apparent that would haunt the game until the end...Lack of content.

D1 open beta allowed players to travel around the first open area which is the cosmodrome on earth. It allowed use of sparrows and had hidden enemies with ??? as names indicating lv 8 players (max level in the beta) couldn't kill it or even damage it but it was a great teaser for what players would fight in the full game. They also briefly opened up the moon.

The only point when things were slowly down in destiny was when people were getting to the max level or almost max level of 30 or 29. People were stuck at 29 cause they weren't getting that last piece of raid gear to achieve 30. Things started to stagnate some until the 1st expansion hit and it reinvigorated the game until people hit the next max level again and again in each major expansion. Killing things and constantly re doing missions got boring so people played more pvp over pve and that's why bungie is still focusing on pvp now in d2. They lowered the time to kill on all weapons cause of all the complaints in D1 pvp and made the game play more about gun play than skills and supers. Its overall game play without supers and skills feels a lot slower. The weapons we were given in d2 beta feels so weak when they're legendary weapons. Only weapon technically better is a exotic weapon. D2 isn't looking to well unless they let us play a more up to date version of the game and open up the game more to let players explore an see what's actually new and just reskins and minor game play tweaks or hud changes.

I mean the new Zelda DLC was hard mode, some clothes they added into the existing world, one of which helps you find the collectibles that were in at launch, and then a weird map tracking feature, nothing really standout and the collectible one for sure feels like it should have been there. Not that the base game wasn't amazing though because it was a good game with good content (even if the dungeons were meh imo), but they don't only have great DLC I feel. Splatoon was another one, even if it was free :p

Fire Emblem Echoes' season pass is more expensive than the game itself.

Just played some Doom multiplayer, recently only just did the campaign. I see they revised a bunch of systems in the multiplayer on how things are unlocked and progressed throughout.

Unlocked Threat Assessment, .42% Rare Achievement, Detect 20 enemies using the Threat Pulse in Multiplayer. Considering how beneficial this little equipment piece is, granted you substitute a grenade or teleporter, since you can practically see through walls I'd be using this thing all the time lol!

I run around with it always on, except when i had to get the achievement for the 5 kills with the mine. I have basically all the multiplayer achievements done now except for the 2 that have now become a grind wearing a specific piece of armor. Basically have to "prestige" 8 times for those :(

2nd night of watching Fortnite on Twitch and I'm going to pass on it. Price will probably plunge fast. If you played it would love to hear opinions

Dunkirk in IMax was fantastic. The old ladies sitting next to me were practically going deaf during every bombing run in that movie.

I have enjoyed it thus far. Granted i got copies for my cousin and a friend so we all play together.
Ive noticed that games with randoms get really boring because many people focus on mining/scavenging, which isnt necessary to the extent people do it.
I should add though that i really like the tower defense aspect of it. Plus some of the heros have really cool abilities and skills. Just enough variety to get me to change classes frequently.
Its refreshing imho, and the gameplay itself is really tight. It also does a good job of pulling me into one more match to get just one more upgrade.

I'm pretty sure there is more coming for Zelda in the DLC including some story additions and for $20,

I'm finding the game itself really fun. The UI needs major work. I'm still figuring out what all the various screens and menus are supposed to be for.

Weekly release time. Enjoy the rest of your weekend CAG fam.

Finally saw Wonder Woman this weekend. Turns out it is just alright.  Definitely the best DCEU film so far but I was not blown away.  Story was fine but there was still plenty of cringe to be had and the CGI was pretty mediocre at times. The newest extended trailer for Justice League still has me excited though.

I liked it better than some of the recent Marvel movies. I thought it was very well made and it was fun to see a character I didn't know much about going in.

My wife and I went to War For The Planet of the Apes last night, that was a fun movie. I was actually thinking while watching some parts that it would be fun to play a video game of it. To get to be an ape, so the gun controls are not very good for aiming but you have strength to make up for it. Seems like you could make the controls interesting and have something fun, but it doesn't seem like that make movie games anymore.

All three of those have my attention.

I've been playing more Rocket League competitive because I'm getting good.

Lol but yeah it really depends on who your teammates are going forward. I feel like I win one and then lose the next, repeat. I also need to offload my unopened crates, they're piling up now.

If you're ever open to it, I've been looking for someone to play 2v2/3v3 with. I'm sick of playing with ball chasing, no mic randoms.

Also, any overdrive (newest) crates?
