this music trial one is a pain in the ass

is it not free? keeps wanting me to subscribe for a 2 dollar sign up fee or something

do I need to do the spotify free trial ( I don't use spotify)before linking accounts to PS?

// yeah I dunno what I'm doing. I have spotify on the ps4 with an account with a premium trial and is linked on ps4 but the rewards website link is telling me to link accounts and then it says it failed

how do I subscribe to ps music? dafuq

lol "The purchase cannot be completed. One or more items may have already been purchased or other requirements for purchase have not been met."
Some reason it is trying to get me to do the $99 year sub.. I gave up.

This is great timing. I just bought one of those PS 3DTV's (like Ship has) from NewEgg and a cheap ps3 slim, and Alex Kidd & Co. comes with a 3D compat version of Hang-On.

Some reason it is trying to get me to do the $99 year sub.. I gave up.
that was a waste of my morning lol

I should get the 500 points but the music/spotify thing was a massive pain in the ass with no success

now I have to hope I get it and that none of these trials end up charging me in the end lol (I think I have them all off)

I just bought a brand new XPS 15 laptop from Dell and for some reason, the Internet is extremely limited. Most sites I try to go to give a DNS error. The problem isn’t with the router as it works fine. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Did you try setting the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4?

Citizens is worth 3 bucks right? Even if I'm never going to play it.
Absolutely. Anything under $5 is worth owning just for ownership sake. Just remember this is digital so you can only buy it once so the fun will be short-lived. Just make sure you film yourself pushing the "buy" button so you get your money's worth out of it and the true satisfaction of being a CAG so you can re-live that memory and post the action here for us to enjoy.

I'm thinking about possibly picking up Jet Set Radio (PS4). Would like have some thoughts on the game from folks who've played it.

Edit: JSR for PS3, not PS4 my bad.

Wait, what?  There's a PS4 port of Jet Grind Radio?  I 100%-ed it on Dreamcast and PS3 and loved it. Very fun games and the PS3 version has decent trophies (compared to the insane achievements on XBox.) No platinum, though. :(

Sorry for the mis-information on that, I got it wrong. It's for PS3 and Vita, no PS4 port available. :(

Did something happen to the web store? I can't get the Movie & TV sections to come up anymore. I've tried on multiple browsers, signed in & out, but I keep only getting the Games section. Tried googling it but didn't get anything useful.

No worries. I do suggest the PS3 version, though. Fun game.

Yes, it's all screwy right now. Adding unremovable games to people's wishlists, making it seem like people have no purchases, etc. I had to do webchat with a Sony rep last night because none of my purchases were showing on the webstore. Apparently they're having issues...

The soundtrack and design still hold up, but there are alot of gameplay gripes that can wear on you after awhile. Things like when your character does a jump, they suddenly just go prone and take a few seconds to get moving again (super annoying during races) and things like spray painting on an opponents back aren't that fun. Even than so long as you also look at it as a bit of a product of it's time and forgive some of the gameplay choices, you'll enjoy it.

Just log out of that account, create a new account, and do the free trial in the app. Turn off auto-renew and you'll be free to switch back to your main account.

before I did the free trial it was trying to charge me 2 $ for signing up when I was going through the rewards page

the playstation app?

Do this on the PS4. I don't think you can do it anywhere else.
ok will try again that way, thanks I was using the website which was supposed to allow me to link accounts

well that was pretty easy and worked afaik, thanks again

not sure why the website links from sony rewards were such a pain in the ass

Disney is pulling the Marvel license from Gazillion. Marvel Heroes Omega is shutting down.
Just saw that... Shame as the game was quite a bit of fun. Had a pretty decent run though on PC, feel bad for console players that were getting into it.

I'm guessing they're reworking it for the revamped web store.

This is why I don't spend money on "free to play" games like that.

Can you imagine (maybe some of you can) spending any amount of money to unlock new characters and then they turn off the game?

what I really need boys asap is some psn credit deal action popping up somewhere

always a struggle to keep up while I'm covered in discounted xbox credit

The problem is people consider any and all dlc to be proof that a game is unfinished which is just utterly ridiculous.

Also you can't bring up older games and then just completely ignore the fact that back before devs could push out updates easily they would instead just release new versions of the game and expect you to buy it for full price again. There were so many re-releases of games back then that would add a tiny amount of new content and some balance changes then just sell it for full price.
While I agree that DLC doesn't automatically make a game unfinished, I"m really struggling with your second paragraph.

I've gamed for decades, and your implication that we were buried in full price re-releases to fix bugs just isn't ringing true. Big expansions were more popular, and a lot of games just never got updates [but were generally less buggy to begin with, in part due to not being able to update, in part because games were simpler].

It was pretty rare that what you said occurs - full price for a 'tiny' amount of new content/balance changes.

how often does that trophy reward system update?  I got a plat about 12 hours ago and it still says 0...

Also... is there a way to do a 'free' spotify trial?   The only trial i'm seeing is $2 for 2 months...

I at no point said or implied they were releasing new versions of games simply for bug fixes nor that we were "drowning in them", I said minor content additions and balance changes and it is absolutely true. Square and Capcom are probably the worst offenders with it (and they were 2 of the biggest publishers back then), look at crap like releasing DMC3 and then a year later releasing a special edition of it that added Vergil and some difficulty balancing. Even worse is stuff like the KH series where every main game got a final mix version like a year later, and that whole thing was extra annoying since you had to import them (which I couldn't really do as a poor teenager to make matters worse.) This is also not getting into the multi-platform problem where different versions of a game within a console generation could have minor differences because of when they released.

Those sorts of problems are gone in the age of updates and dlc and I am thankful for it.

Lol. First off, you quoted something I didn't say ["drowning in them"] in a post saying i'm misquoting you. I didn't directly quote you.... you're the one that said "There were so many re-releases of games back then that would add a tiny amount of new content and some balance changes then just sell it for full price." That clearly implies that you are saying it happened often, as part of a larger argument. No, there weren't "so many". That almost never happened.

I don't actually care... I actually agree with your larger point. But your post clearly implies something untrue.

As for your larger point about Capcom, etc, just because a couple companies did this sometimes means nothing. computer and console games have existed for many decades before DLC/updates became commonplace, and none of the things you're listing as problems of that time were actually big problems. Most games came complete and nearly bug free. Sure, some games had odd bugs [like Ghandi in Civ] but in general? It was a great time to game and the lack of constant updates wasn't a big deal.

Street Fighter II comes to mind.

The comparison that was being made between "then and now" was pre-21st century games (NES, SNES, etc.) and modern age games (such as PS3/4.)  As a teenager in the '90s, the only game I can recall that released multiple revisions as full releases was Street Fighter II.  Not only did games such as Kingdom Hearts and DMC3 not come along until the 2000s (putting them more in line with modern games) but the special editions that were released with extras, such as the "Final Mix", were Japan-only releases, which isn't exactly relevant to the US gaming market.  Some people may have gone the extra mile and imported, but most did not.

That being said, however, there is a big distinction between what was happening then and what is happening now.  Back when SF2 came out, they had no vision in their minds of making the bosses playable.  It was only when people started clamoring for it that they went and made Championship Edition/Turbo.  Then many years after that, they decided to add new playable characters and released Super Street Fighter II.  If this practice was done today, it is correct that it would be more feasible as DLC.  But at the time, they were not considered updates so much as new games built on an old foundation.

The problem is, that while it is perfectly acceptable to release DLC for something after the fact, that may not have been considered during development, it is unacceptable to lock off content for the sole purpose of making players pay more to get the complete game.  An example of this would be Street Fighter X Tekken.  Not long after it was released, there was DLC released to add 12 new characters to the game.  ALL the characters were on the disc, and all you were paying for was a 100 byte file to give you access to them.  Another example was Assassin's Creed II.  They removed two whole chapters of the single-player game (Sequence 12 and 13) claiming they didn't have time to finish them before release, and then charged people to buy them as DLC to put them back in the game.

I don't have anything against DLC in general, for example, I love all the Rock Band tracks that are released every week and wish there were more released.  But that's a case of, again, something that clearly was developed long after the game was released, not something they purposely removed to make players spend more money.

The guy I originally quoted brought up the PS2 era specifically though, also DMC3 special edition came out everywhere...

Props to you and Kain for the input on JSR. I'll definitely keep what you said in mind. Gonna pick it as it looks like a game I'll enjoy for sure.

Hmmmm...  So i had backed out of the $2 spotify thing, and, based on info here installed Spotify. I -had- linked my [brand new] account, though, via the web.  So I went to my newly installed Spotify on ps4, and not surprisingly, it was already linked to a spotify account I'd created earlier... and i can play music.

so.. question:

Is spotify always 'somewhat' free, or am i in a trial?  [as in, is it like hulu or netflix?]

-----

I'm actually pretty impressed at the selection.  typed in some obscure rhythmic noise and it has it.  i'm happy.

and  i'm kind of tripped out.   i come from the days of scouring obscure catalogs for new releases and side projects of obscure music.  buying cds based on pedigree, hoping they're good.   and because everything cost real money, you had to take your chances.

streaming music, and the implications of never needing to listen to the same song twice, let alone listening to an album on repeat, is blowing my mind.

I listen to mainly underground metal so I remember well the days of searching everywhere for new music and buying CDs based on one or two tracks I heard at the local metal shop where the owner let me preview anything that wasn't sealed. I have discovered so many new bands due to Spotify and it's also nice to be able to listen to almost every album in my collection without having to rip the CDs to my phone. Well worth the ten bucks a month to me.

I switched to streaming a long time ago, it's actually pretty overwhelming.

Shutdown date for Marvel Heroes Omega is going to be Dec. 31st. Official launch was June 30th, so the console version will end up with a 6 month lifespan. Disposable gaming at its worst.

They're planning to offer the paid characters/content for free during the 'sunset period', if that's any consolation.

It's always free at its core with an ad that plays every once in a while.

Official word on Marvel Heroes Omega:

https://twitter.com/MarvelHeroes/status/930956555767332864

They're essentially going to be removing all purchasing options ASAP and making the whole rest of the game free for the rest of 2017, which is a nice way for it to go out.

Well, I might play through the rest of the game before it shuts down then. I'm glad I didn't buy anything for it even though I was tempted.
