On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Did anyone else not have their MCC update on its own? I noticed it still wasn't in the X1X Enhanced menu and no update had happened recently or was currently available. It loaded up just fine without a disc thanks to Game Pass but still had the old menus. Just had to delete and download it again. :whistle2:k
How large is it after the reinstall? Mine is 73.4GB. I got a X recently and had all my games on my external drive. Not sure it ever updated or not.

Some of the news sites are saying Telltale is going to release episode 2 next week as planned, but that's it. This was such short notice and probably already in certification, so it is sure to be the originally planned episode. At best maybe they were able to add some kind of goodbye message or something but it surely ends on a cliffhanger like normal.

Over on Reddit people are saying they were able to get refunds through Xbox Support since the game isn't finishing, and so far no one has had their preorder Complete Collection revoked. Maybe they'll automatically do this like I think they did when Marvel Heroes Omega died, but it's hard to say since the circumstances are different.

Half-Life 2 episode 3? yeah yeah I know not the same, but I do think we'll find out the story for the real end of TellTales Walking dead ala an Instragram or Twitter post the way they did that.
Half Life Episode 3 was the only thing I could think for unfinished episodic games, but Valve didn’t sell season passes saying “get all 3 episodes” like Tell Tale has done.

I wonder what the effect will be going forward on season passes. How many people will be reluctant to buy season passes after seeing one finally go up in smoke like this?

I don't think Half-Life is a good comparison. It was planned as a very different release model from the modern episodic games.

Personally I wouldn't have bought this particular season pass if it didn't come with the huge bonus of the Complete Collection. I think stuff like Fallout 4's season pass is the bigger turn off for people. With the previous two games there were 4 to 5 big DLC adventures new areas, and with 4 it ended up being just 2 big ones, with one small story that added mostly crafting elements, and a few things for the new Settlement mode that many people didn't like. I happened to like Settlement Building, but even I felt kind of burned by this choice as it wasn't told to us ahead of time, and then they had the balls to raise the price by $20

Dev update for Overwatch below.

I'm starting to think they need a bigger team for this game. While I am all for accessibility improvements and quality of life changes, the fact that they're saying character re-works are taking away from their ability to improve events is disappointing. If anything, I feel like they need to ramp up the quality and number of special events and modes. Balancing is certainly needed but I'm not generally a fan of complete re-works that fundamentally change how characters are played. The Mercy change was for the better, but Symmetra isn't much of a defender anymore outside of her Ult, and the change to her primary gun was a blow to a lot of players who wanted someone that didn't need major precision like McCree, 76, or Hanzo. She's basically a totally different character now.

I hope the Pharah changes don't have too dramatic of an effect on her. She's been my main character since the beta. It sounds like she's going to be much more dependent on direct hits now, but I hope she has some splash damage still. I think she's already a fairly high execution character at range since you have to lead targets, and toning down the splash damage could hurt her ability to distract a crowd.

I hope they don't have too much effect on her either, but people complain enough to get what they want I guess (aka trolls). I'll just use ana to put everyone to sleep from now on I guess.

100% agree. I'm basically playing only during events right now, so adding more events and/or new modes would pull me back in more. More seasonal events would be nice but feel like they wouldn't be able to keep up with adding new skins that often.

I do like what they did with the mercy, OWL and dva events with adding an out of game way to earn new sprays (even if I just put the stream on at work and minimized it). Adding more stuff like the in dva "win 9 matches" event once or twice between each seasonal event would be sweet.

Sup peeps!

That's how big mine is after redownloading and it now shows up in the Enhanced tab of the games menu.

Here is the specifics if you hadn't seen them. To me it seems it's really situational as to whether it's a buff or nerf depending on how good you are with getting direct hits. https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/overwatch-ptr-patch-notes-september-22-2018/9007

I'm basically just getting my first win of the day for the free 1500 xp now. To pull me in they need to fix loot boxes. Either release a crap ton more common/rares, or change the drop rate of epic and legendary drops. I'm not even a silver yet, and I've been getting 95% duplicates for months now, because I have every common/rare outside of a handful of event ones. And 80% of my epic drops are just credits. They definitely could work on events more. The Summer Games in particular need something more than Lucio Ball.

Site is down for me. Text from Reddit:

Telltale Games, the studio behind games like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us appears to be closing its doors, according to social media posts from multiple developers previously employed that the company.

Gamasutra has reached out to Telltale Games for more details on the situation, but posts from developers on Twitter and Facebook, both private and public, seem to indicate that the studio is shutting is shutting down or experiencing large-scale layoffs. This story will be updated following the studio's reply.

If you or someone you know has been affected by this closure, you can email Gamasutra to share your story confidentially.

Another article, says they aren't shutting down, but had massive layoffs.

Telltale Games, creators of episodic adventure games like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman: The Enemy Within, laid off a large number of its staff today. The company will retain a small team of around 25.

They've had a ton of internal issues, and were spreading themselves too thin for too long. This is a big cut down but I think at least season 1 was made with a team of about this size. Guess we wait for a press release with the plan now.
To those that jumped all over me when I said I had an issue paying in advance for a full season ... not looking so good now. Hope you get what you paid for!

You act like something like this has happened before. It's one thing to be disappointed by the quality of a season pass, but flat out cancellation halfway through is a new thing.

I'd be concerned if it were a physical copy and/or we hadn't entered the age of refunds on digital purchases. As it stands, we're blatantly not getting what we were promised on the store page and it's a big name game so we're guaranteed refunds. Keep the "I told you so"s to yourself.
(I didn't buy it but definitely wish I had.)

I was considering not doing a refund for the final season but something just dawned on me. This company decided to keep the team to do this lame Minecraft conversion for a video streaming service that isn't released yet over the product that tons of people have already directly paid for. It's not like refunds are going to hurt all the employees who were already fired without severance.

I don’t know, but I feel like if this is the first time you’ve been concerned about the season pass model, than you haven’t been paying attention. Look at the clusters that were AC: Unity, Halo Wars 2, Fallout 4 just to name a few. I don’t see any benefit to the consumer to giving the video game companies your money before you even know what you’re giving it to them for.

But then, I’m the kind of guy that would never preorder a game, because I can ALWAYS get it for that same price (full) after the fact, and all the preorder gimmicks eventually become available to everyone anyway. Not to mention, by the time I get to any given retail game it’s priced in the $10-20 range anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

Tried out the FH4 demo. Seems pretty cool but I had ALOT of freezing problems with it. Running the demo on a S. Anyone else experience this? Run smooth on an X?

And...just got back from a 7 week out of town work assignment. Turn on my last years Black Friday TV and it has developed a thin horizontal line directly in the middle of the screen. Good times.

I had a lot of jank on the X but it wasn't related to the driving at all, it was during the cutscenes and what not, chalking it up to not polished yet

The thing I've heard is that with the money and work they had available, the Netflix Minecraft conversion was the thing they could do with a skeleton crew. I doubt they'd have the money to keep a full team of people to finish the last two episodes, especially on the schedule they had announced unless you want people to work for nothing for a small chance of turning things around.

Point taken. I don’t recall the issue with Unity, as I wasn’t an early adopter of the One. Fallout was an odd one because it started off at a lower price, then then increased the price and added a couple more dlc packs (quality of the total pass is definitely debatable). I got the ultimate edition with GCU at launch for around $70, so I can’t complain about pricing there.

But yeah, can’t believe I forgot about halo wars 2, because that one pissed me off to no end with how the big expansion was added on after the SP. that game taught me the lesson not to buy the SP until everything is announced and released.

But even with the question of quality for Halo Wars and Fallout 4, the devs delivered on all the promised content. Am I pissed off that the promised story content for Halo wasn’t what I expected? Yes, and I’ve taken that lesson to heart now. But TTG is in the likely position of not delivering the number of episodes promised in the season pass. Maybe it hurts smaller devs that want to try a season pass model (Hitman comes to mind now that IO has spun off from Square Enix) as consumer lose confidence that they’ll get what they pay for.

it was clear to see they were struggeling and had very low sales. all the people waiting til its $5 in a flash sale. its not just here, also in every other gaming forum. everyone wants sales.and there is just so many games out now nobody got that much time or patience.

you will get refunds by sony/microsoft/steam because your purchase wasnt fulfilled. got nothing to do with telltale. same as if a game is broken.

single player is dying sooner or later because with few exceptions they all lose money or barely get by. yet people throw billions of $ at shark cards and fortnite money. sad!
Not sure why there is a pile-on Killapigs when most of what s/he's saying is mostly accurate or at least debatable. I agree that some companies were shooting themselves in the foot in terms of sales, particularly Telltale and also TTgames with the Lego series. After a while, you just knew that all of those games would be on deep discount sale, which must eventually impact their bottom line.

I'd say the industry as a whole has noticed this, and become a lot less sale-centric the past year or so. Ubisoft really hasn't been living up to their "Ubidrop" moniker at all, holding pricing for FC4, FC5, and AC:O far longer than usual.

I do think the idea that single-player will die altogether is taking it too far, but no question that single-player games have struggled lately. Look at the struggles Arkane has had lately despite their games being better than average overall. There seems to be an issue with development costs vs sales revenue and/or consumer expectations. Personally I am so thankful for studios like CD Projekt Red - they don't release many games, but they do seem to put their heart and soul into every one. I can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to be released and will definitely be pre-ordering it.

Yea, you’re right, this is a particularly egregious example of unfulfilled promises. And I’m probably in the group partially to blame for TT’s demise. For the most part, I enjoy their games, but was definitely in the boat of waiting until each game went at least $10 for the season, or more likely until GWG. I’m sure that as people got used to the pattern of frequent sales, and with pretty much every game eventually going GWG, it hurt TT more than it helped them.

I wouldn't do much wait for a sale as wait for all the episodes to be out before buying.

It is a dirty practice to act like you're selling "all the dlc" in a pass and then add even more things with a magical season 2 or special whatever.

To those that jumped all over me when I said I had an issue paying in advance for a full season ... not looking so good now. Hope you get what you paid for!

We'll be getting our money back, anyway. Or some form of similar compensation. This type of situation is ultra rare, too. Not like you're taking a risk of this nature every single time you pre-order a season pass.

TT is probably a case where GWG / PS+ really did hurt sales, after a few titles were on the service.

It doesn't help that they got so many licenses and put out games of varying quality. I recall Jurassic Park TT reviewing terribly and my willingness to buy their games decreasing.

Not to mention, it took 8 years to try 4 seasons for TWD? Seasons usually imply annual releases, at least in television, and I wonder how sales would have been if they focused more on their flagship IP before taking on so many other projects.

I tried to make the point a few months back that when you hand your over money for something that you don't yet have, you are setting yourself up to be screwed. We've seen it before. Whether with other episodic games getting cancalled mid-season or (countless Kickstarter campaigns.) No one should be surprised by this at all. They owe you nothing. Companies go out of busness all the time. And if you front them money, you are out. To which the response was "you're not a REAL TWD fan ... that makes no sense if you are going to buy the game anyway ... hahaha, I question your CAGness."

This is a dangerous precedence when you start fronting money in advance of a product that you don't have. Hopefully this will give everyone something to consider the next time they want to plunk down money on the next psuedo-Kickstarter season pass for an epsiodic series. Telltale knew exactly where the company stood when they moved to a season-pass only option. That was done for a very calcuated reason. I don't intend to come off like "I told you so." I've been screwed in the past ... a failed Gameband Kickstarter, a failed Switch accessory Indiegogo and a season pass for Blues and Bullets (which never made it past episode 2 of 5.)

Hopefully everyone can get a refund. And everyone at Telltale who lost their job can land on their feet. Talk about getting screwed ...

I’m 100% sure this didn’t help, as much as I appreciated it. I would have picked up many more than I did, but it got to the point that I knew it would be GwG if I could wait it out a bit. That, or it would only be a few months before they had the first episode free and SP heavily discounted.

I think the company did a better job of sticking to that discount schedule than they did their release schedule.

Too bad MS didn't try to buy TT and have episodic releases on Game Pass, I'd totally play their games if they were part of a service I already subscribe to, not unlike Netflix original content.

If Washington wins today I'm giving a game away. I'm thinking Flatout or Spintires. I'll figure that out later. Like this post to enter the drawing. If they beat Aaron I'll pick the winner later this afternoon. If they don't I'll probably just sit around bitching the rest of the day. Just trying to muster up some good vibes for my boys- they need all the help they can get.

Has anyobe tried the new star wars pinball tables on fx3? Worth it or wait for a sale. I wasnt impressed with the last jedi tables ( mostly because I hated the movie so maybe that made me hate the tables)

I guess my main question was how far along the Minecraft thing is, and why that got to take precedence over TWD. I looked up some stuff though, and it doesn't look like TWD would have been feasible in any sense.

-Minecraft: Story Mode Netflix version was announced in June for a Fall release, it must be close to finished and it seems like it should mostly be capturing video and setting up a ton of bookmarks

-looking at even just season 1 credits for TWD, the team seems to have been quite a bit larger than 25. At least 50 not including QA or localization

I'm surprised they're being allowed to finish anything at all if declaring bankruptcy, it seems like this is not usually the case in these circumstance from past gaming closures. Probably something to do with it being a set amount coming in from a contract with a big company rather than finishing a product that sells directly to customers.

Does anybody know how early games generally preload?

Worried about my Comcast data cap and have Black Ops 4 pre-ordered. I have one month of courtesy overage left so if I'm going to do it I want to make it count and download quantum break on that month lol

I was watching Twitch the other day after news about Telltale broke, and I can add to this conversation that some streamers feel responsible for their sales being low too.

How many people out there just watched those games being streamed, or watched a "let's play" on Youtube instead of buying them? Watching and playing are not totally different in the case of Telltale games. That probably hurt Telltale quite a bit.

It changes game to game, but I think it's generally within a week or so of launch. At worst, I think you can delete the "preordered" tile under My Games, and it won't automatically download.

I'm not disagreeing here but this affects the entire industry. If their model wasn't sustainable they should have changed things up sooner. Either lower budgets, raise prices, or stop going so wild with acquiring licenses. Innovation would have probably helped a lot as most people agree that the never improving engine and refusal to deviate much from TWD's formula speed up the burn out. Original IP could have gone a long way too. Imagine if half of the games they produced were original stories they didn't need to pay licensing for.

And it's not like the genre isn't feasible. Life Is Strange is about to have it's third game released, and I think you could consider both Supermassive Games and Quantic Dreams output to be in the same genre, though they were both funded by a first-party company and with much higher budgets. They somewhat get around the "let's play" problem in different ways. Life Is Strange has a bit more on the gameplay front than Telltale, and unique mechanics that allow for more experimentation, and the Sony funded games just have a ton of variation afforded by the budget. Literally every character can die in Until Dawn, and Detroit: Become Human has enough branches to stay interesting for a few playthroughs.

Telltale was working on a new engine, with TWD supposedly the last game to use the old clunky engine.

The wolf among us IP is really interesting, I hope someone picks up and does something with fable
