Humble Bundle Thread

I counted and I bought 11 bundles last year not Humble monthly ones. 6 were $1 tiers, so not an amazing year. Only 3 of those were the top tier. So yeah 2020 was a pretty weak year for bundles.

Game bundles I only dud two so pretty weak.

If you include all bundles I did a bunch... Getting everything published for the 40K RPG over 4 bundles and about 80 bucks was the highlight of the year.

I've had generation zero on my wishlist for awhile, kind of surprised it showed up in a regular non-monthly bundle, too bad the bta shot up. Despite not being appealing to me (besides generation zero) this seems like one of the better weekly bundles in awhile.

$1 Tier:

  • Deadly Days -> Steam key------ Don't own, maybe worth a buck.

BTA Tier - All Steam keys:

  • Generation Zero------------- Humble monthly from Sept. 2020
  • Life is Feudal: Your Own------------ Maybe worth it if you're a masochist. 64 player survival game. The mmo version went FTP and then a shut down was announced 3 days ago.
  • Mad Max (game) ------------Nice game, already own it on two platforms.
  • Memories of Mars------------- Sort of interested.

$10 Tier:

  • World War Z: GOTY Edition -> Epic Store Game Key only----------------- It went free on Epic last year. Maybe the GOTY has extras that make it worth it.
  • Genesis: Alpha One - Deluxe Edition -> Steam key---------------- Was in August 2020 monthly bundle.

PSA: Tomorrow is auto-charge day for Humble Choice subscribers,

Definitely not in for $12. Might stick around for $8.

Anyone pick up this programming book bundle? The "Machine Learning in Action" one sounds interesting for a buck. I've been slightly curious about learning machine learning stuff for a while but don't have much time to dedicate to it; I wonder if this would be a quick hands-on way to learn.

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/math-for-programmers-manning-publications-books
Haven't bought any of these bundles (I have access to Safari Books Online so no need), but I can confirm that a lot of the books in this bundle are good.

That being said, if you're just starting on machine learning, you probably want to pick one good "comprehensive" beginner book to start and read through it, and none of the books in this bundle are exactly that book.

These Manning books are good supplements, to get hands-on experience from a new angle, or just to review some of the concepts and algorithms from new perspectives to refresh and cement them.

The comprehensive intro book is probably this book, which is free: https://mml-book.github.io/

Endless Space 2, Trine 4 and Valkyria Chronicles 4 are the highlights for me and I have them all.  I had Valfaris wishlisted but it is all I care about in the bundle.  This is the first month I wish I bothered pausing.

Endless Space 2 was already in a monthly right? I know I got it from Humble in the last year or two somehow. It says definitive edition in one page and deluxe in another. If it adds in most or all of the dlc of the definitive edition list on steam then its a nice addon. Outward with one expansion isn't too bad. Not much otherwise though.

I got WIld 8 several years ago. I don't think I played it much though.

You know you can pause anytime up till the last friday of the month, right?

This is definitely the best month of Choice yet IMO. I'm a little biased because I've discounted most months because of all the Gamepass games. I think this is only the second month of Choice with no Gamepass games and the previous time it happened was a pretty bad month. Kinda sucks that I canceled my $6 sub last month, but last month didn't have a single thing I wanted to play so I don't mind too much.

Edit: Actually nevermind. I need to go look at the page I am not sure I actually understand how pausing works since I never have bothered. lol

Ah yeah misunderstood how it worked, I thought you had to pause before the end of the previous month.  Oops.  Oh well I know for the future.

Finally VC4. It had stopped being discounted after being released on Stadia... and now they have Judgment as an exclusive, at least for awhile.

Feels like each month is drip-feeding us w/ some Vampire/Werewolf content from the World of Darkness. I'm cool w/ that. Keep them coming.

I know it's way too soon, but I'd like to see WereWolf: The Apoc - Earthblood in here down the line.

Already own Outward on Epic (brutally-tough & difficult game, which I like), but I am missing the Sorobeans expansion. Also, anytime it's good to put something on Steam, since I am not the biggest fan of Epic and their horrid offline mode....which a lot of games I own on Epic, don't support that (they need to work on that) - even SP-based stuff; sometimes DLC's require EGL while base-game doesn't; and sometimes "-EpicPortal" don't work or updates break the "can work without DRM" aspect. At least Steam's offline mode freakin' works.

Already own VC4 Complete...and unplayed. Heck, also got VC1 backlogged too.

Don't have Endless Space 2 either.

Still looks like a purchase for me.

EDIT:

I wish some stuff like Greedfall & The Council would show up in here.

Endless Space 2 and Moving Out are both on Gamepass, FWIW.
Lol, I've actually played a little Moving Out on Gamepass. That one I don't mind owning since you kinda need to play it with somebody else and I never know when I'm going to be able to convince people to play games with me.

Guess I just ignored Endless Space 2 since I don't care about it.

I still wish PC Game Pass was $5 per month. I'd probably never quit it, if it was always that price.

I'll just have to sub every now and then, for important titles.

Regardless, it helps me when Humble has stuff to own on Steam (or wherever else) even if it's on GamePass...as I can keep the game and don't have to sub to Game Pass.

Been looking forward to Outward... not sure I care about the other stuff enough to get the whole thing or try to pick Outward up solo.  I suppose I could trade Valkyria 4 for something decent.  Train Station Renovation is something I'd expect in a Groupies Bundle.

Yeah, this month finally made it worth it, especially with the “$4 off if you threaten to pause” discount ... came really close to buying Valkyria Chronicles 4 several times in the past, but $8 for a $50 bundle is great. Have Outward on Epic but the dlc is nice and a $15 value. The rest is decent for what it is ... hopefully we see more bundles like this ... although I miss the mind blowing bundles that had 3+ recent AAA games.

Looks pretty solid. I like the Werewolf stuff, and I own VC4 on PS4, but it's good. I've had that Lovecraft game on my wish list for a while. Not terrible, but not great either.

After so many years, someone out there finally conditioned themselves to pause the day before the last Friday of the month. And now they're in for a rude awakening.

They are switching to the first Tues of the month for Humble Choice games to drop.
"We don't put game bundles out on Tuesdays anymore, so let's move our monthly bundles to Tuesday. It'll confuse the consumer and they'll forget to pause their subscriptions. What a genius idea!" - Humble, probably

Precisely. They aren't able to put together game bundles anymore. They had two non-monthly bundles in the past 6 to 7 weeks. They are trying to find ways to occupy the Tuesday game bundle slot.

So glad I didnt buy VC4 CE on its own during the Holiday sales lol

The rest are just nice extras (also Trine 4 is a nice add).

Don't you think Earthblood looks . . . a bit crap? The trailer was utterly devoid of content that actually described anything going on in the game itself. I'm always suspicious of any non-teaser trailer that reveals no information about story or gameplay. Also, the $40 MSRP suggests the dev and/or pub already know it's not all that great.

It's Cyanide, so...I doubt it'll be AAA sparkling production-city here.

It could be more like B-Studio game like a Piranha Bytes RPG in this era; Reality Pump Game (i.e. Two Worlds); or something from Spiders (i.e. Mars: War Logs) - there might not be something different, interesting, cool and/or special/unique about it...but it's still lacking a bunch of something to take it to the next level.

Likely, that'll probably be these short-comings - the game's a bit repetitive or shallow in some way; voice-acting is "meh"; and/or stilted writing and/or dialogue.

There's a new Moebius and More Presented by Humanoids comics bundle.  It's available for the next 20 days.

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/comics-bundle-moebius-more-presented-humanoids-books?hmb_source=&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=mosaic_section_1_layout_index_2_layout_type_threes_tile_index_2_c_comicsbundlemoebiusmorepresentedhumanoids_bookbundle

My favorite addition is where they mention if the books previously appeared in another comics bundle.  They probably got refund requests.

This disclaimer appears right above the $25 tier:

PLEASE NOTE THE BOOKS IN THIS TIER WERE INCLUDED IN THE LAST HUMANOIDS BUNDLE IN 2020.

Hm. Interesting. Yep, sounds like a mid-year 50%-off purchase, perhaps.

That what your mom said to me last night.
Wait a second--how many of you are there?!

Apropos of nothing, I'm probably going back to racing games. Nothing seems to be grabbing my interest lately. I fired up ESO the other day and wandered around with no quests to complete for 20 minutes. I played briefly and uninstalled Control, Dead Rising, Nier: Automata, Greedfall, Yakuza 3 Remastered, and Mafia. I'm sort-of playing Maneater on PS4, but it's long stretches of eating small fishes and avoiding alligators, which is also a bit boring. Is Injustice 3 coming out soon? Or something from Wales Interactive that isn't a horror game?

Rather than buying more games that I didn't need, I finally downloaded a bunch of those comics from the comics bundles that I've been buying on Humble for the past couple of years.  It also gave me a reason to break out an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 that I own.

And it's amazing how much money a person can waste on comic bundles while trying not to miss a good deal, but the Archie, Dynamite Comics, Hasbro, IDW, and Image stuff was worth reading on a snow day.  I'm still hoping DC or Marvel will do a bundle someday.
