If anybody else runs across games in this sale that are in their wishlist or infrequently on sale, please share!
I guess this is a good time to mention Jazzpunk then. Mainly because of the infrequent thing, according to psprices this is the first time it's been on sale since January 2020.

Fun game if you're into dumb comedy. I played it on PC ages ago through steam share but think I am gonna grab it here since it's so cheap and I've been wanting to replay it.

Nice to know that barely any stores around me received Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for PS5, you know, the game that sold millions and millions of copies on PS4.

/rant
They probably realize the number of copies they can sell is limited by a much cheaper upgrade path for current owners.

I started and put a few hours into Returnal last night and I'm not feeling this game.  I even like rouguelikes, but this feels more repetitive than usual for this genre.  I also don't like the upgrades, half the time I don't even know what it does.  And I'm not sure it's worth spending ether at the start of a run when it seems kind of tough to come by.  So weird when I saw this game mentioned by many as their GOTY.  What's everyone else opinion of this game, and if you liked it, any tips?

That is ether I believe and unlocks upgrades which come in the form of items/artifacts with abilities for all future runs including the one you're doing. It's mainly used for only 2 things so be sure to unlock stuff. The other use for ether I wont spoil, but unlock stuff after your runs in that monolith thing near your ship. You also get said item/artifact from it for the run. I'm not sure if the order for unlocks is random, but I don't think so since some better stuff comes later. The beginning always sucks with the low powered pistol. This doesn't change at all. You learn the upgrades over time. Every gun has different ones available and you just have to look up on the menu with your equipment to see the abilities. Many are really basic or change your shot. You need to earn proficiency for these abilities by just killing enemies and eventually you 100% the ability and it's not unlocked for said guns and can appear on future guns of the same type. Just get used to dodging, the somewhat weird at times jumping (never got the timing well and even after many hours still fell off surfaces), and try your best. I honestly felt it was a solid 7 to 7.5/10 in my book, which is good not great. The story is there and not there at the same time. It's OK, but I wouldn't play it for that. If you're not feeling the loop, well it really doesn't change much other than better abilities on guns and attributes as you proceed through the areas.

I liked Returnal enough to platinum it, but it isn't a very good Roguelike. Skill is a little too emphasized for the first half, but by the end gear is insanely powerful and easy to come by. There are six distinct biomes and I've basically never died on the last. It decent was fun, but overhyped IMO. A solid B game and I thought the story was straight-up awful.

My advice if you're struggling? There are a few really great artifacts, but at the end of the day your ability to master the mechanics is more important. Consider changing your control layout; I swapped dodge onto one of the shoulder buttons and turned on always run in the options. After that it was just a matter of practice. This is like a souls game; you die a lot earlier on so that you can run through things easily later.

Returnal isn't for everyone; it requires patience and has very weak meta-progression early on. It isn't until the second half of the game that what you do in earlier runs really has much of an impact later, and it only matters there because you unlock weapon traits that make a huge difference, but even then the meta-progression is done in the most boring way possible. At no point in Returnal will you ever earn a currency you can allocate to make yourself stronger at a base level persisting in all runs.

If you never died to the giant squids that are massive bullet sponges in the last biome then you must have fast twitch like a teenaged asian kid. The first time I ran into one I had been absolutely wiping the floor with everything else in the level and got pummeled.

The thing that made Returnal click for me was to focus more on dodging and less on trying to kill everything instantly. If you can maintain max adrenaline longer and longer you can hit proficiency much more quickly and all the weapons are fun once you have some of the better upgrades. The launcher especially, I hated it until I unlocked the auto fire mod and then it was amazing.

Thanks for the responses, I think I’ll stick with it a bit more and see how it goes.  By the way, do you suggest doing the avenge your previous death missions?  I did it like 4 times in a row and got wiped by that red sentinel thing.  I did finally beat it, but my health was wiped and it ruined my run.

Edit:  I figured it out, basically avenging to get 4 ether and if you go back after getting an upgraded weapon it is much easier.  I also got the sword now which opened up a lot too, game is getting better for sure.

Is Undead Darlings worth buying? it's peaked my interest
Average. I almost beat the game on Switch, but it's a somewhat mediocore dungeon crawl. It has cute girls and they act like themselves just undead. It's just very average graphics wise and tedium wise. You can unlock events but they require having certain characters in your team. I was so excited for it and got my fun out of it, but it's around a 6/10 game.

I got through the entire game without doing any of the "avenge death" stuff because at launch it literally didn't work. I also didn't use Ether much other than to unlock items (not sure how worthwhile that was). I never once used the "save for ether" system other than after finishing the game to get the trophy associated with it. Not saying I played smart or particularly well--I didn't. The sword is great btw, particularly when you use it in combination with a dash.

I got stuck on Biome 5, at the challenge room you have to clear... By the time I got past that, Biome 6 was always a joke. Nearly everything in that biome can be killed easily with a long-range weapon without ever touching you. The trick is just to be slow, methodical, and cautious. I literally beat Biome 6 on my first try, but in spite of that IIRC my playthrough was a bit longer than How Long to Beat's average. I think it's just a matter of my playstyle being good for Biome 6 and bad for other biomes. I'm slow.

Ignore red water and water til... you'll know when.

I only really ever died to the first boss and those stupid squids in biome 6. And drones in 4 and 5. They just do too much damage. Like 60% of your base health a hit. So near 200% hp, you still die in 3 hits.

Spend Ether on the unlocks (3+) and respawns (6) and nothing else. So do try to always have 6 ether. They're not actually that hard to come by. I often had the cap (30).

Using keys is rarely worth it, and cleansing is not worth it either.

I actually just started a fresh run out of boredom yesterday. Got to biome 6 without dying and then died to the third stupid squid, in the room with the key to the last boss.

Keys on chests are almost always worth it IMHO. That's how you get random artifacts. Keys on locked doors leading to artifacts is also worth it. Keys to other doors not leading to those (the randomizer makes these obvious once you play a while) are rarely ever worth it. I like to play risky and go for highly contagious chests knowing I'm likely to get a malfunction. Sometimes you get artifacts and like 60% of the time you get poop not worth it. It's a rogue-lite shooter experience so that's part of the fun. I suck a lot at shooters and it took me around 50 hours to beat the game with another 12 or so to get the true ending. If you're bad at action games that's likely a more accurate time than these experts on here and elsewhere beating the game fully in 20-30 hours.

Same experience with Hades. Voice acting is great, but the game is an empty experience for me.

I'm streaming the Ikki Island expansion in Ghost of Tsushima for those that want to see it in action (link).

Liking it a lot so far. They have some new enemy types that change up the combat a bit to make it harder than Tsushima and have some new side mission types, some with charms that upgrade as you do more of them.

I rarely got artifacts from chests. Maybe 5-10%. And how do you know what locked doors lead to artifacts?

But yea, I have a hard time recommending the game, period.
Continued on my fresh run. Got to Biome 6 and crashed about a minute in. Uninstalled it. Was a fresh boot less than 2 hours, and didn't put the PS5 in suspend mode.

I basically had 2 crashes my first two times through Biome 6 as well. Would have taken less than 24 hours my first time through, so it's way too frequent for a roguelite/like.

It also sucks that if you're not dying, you end up with level 1 traits through Biome 6.

Pretty sure just about every locked chest that requires a key gives a random artifact. I could be wrong about every one but it's a majority. For the 2nd part about locked doors
These are mainly in the 2nd biome. You know a locked door leading into a building out in the desert is a likely artifact.
I have a tiny bit to do for the Returnal Platinum mainly busy work with finishing 3 of the surveys. Those get boring quickly.

Anyone here interesting in the future of Destiny 2 through the next year?

Considering that it has a $30 MSRP and it releases on the first Tuesday of the month, I wouldn’t be surprised if FIST is a PS+ game at launch.

FYI - PS5 w/ disc showed up briefly on Treasure Truck this morning for anyone who is still looking. Might be worth signing up and allowing texts, since it stayed up long enough to be added to my cart. Might be something that happens again closer to BF.

Second run of Hades on PS5 and I got past the bone serpent boss. Such a fantastic game! I wonder if Supergiant has any DLC planned, or if they’ve moved on to something else already…

They don't really do DLC. They'll just be moving onto their next game now that Hades is pretty much out on everything out there.

Tbf, Bastion had a DLC. But that might have just been a thing because of patch costs/MS policies back then.

Nice of Sony to give a PS5 update to a game pretty much everyone was able to get for free, for free.

Anyway, Midnight Suns is an interesting direction. I guess they're continuing to avoid using the same character pool across recent games which is both a good and bad thing.
Midnight Suns seems like it'd be better suited for a Diablo kind of game (though that was better done by XMLegends and MUAlliance) but maybe they expected the comparison and wanted to do something more original. Cautiously optimistic.

Feel similarly about Jurassic World Evolution 2. The leaks have been on the money so far so fingers crossed that it'll be much better than the first.

In contrast, I have no hope for the new Saints' Row.

Wow, there's lots of obscure games that hardly ever get discounted in this new PSVR sale. Anyone have any opinions on these:

Touring Karts- 7.99
Dark Legion- 2.99
Dream Angling- 2.99
Along Together- 5.99
Pirate Flight- 4.49
Accounting Plus- 4.79
Stardrone- 3.19
Dwvr- 4.49
Mortal Blitz- 4.99
Proton Pulse Plus- 2.99
Windlands- 4.99

I can't even find a single review for some of these games. For the rest there's a lot of mixed opinions. They all are pretty much short C-tier indie games, but I mostly prefer that these days and I've already played all the essential PSVR stuff. But I don't want to be burned and end up accidentally buying a buggy, unplayable mess, since that's all too common lately. Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Really? I feel like PSVR Without Parole has done reviews on most of those on their channel.

Accounting+ was made by the Rick & Morty guy. It's good, and of course, pretty out there. But can be kind of short. I enjoyed Mortal Blitz (the original, not Arena). The rest I haven't played.
