This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

Still Q2 for me.  I sold a bunch of rarer games from my collection, my PS4 Pro, and some other stuff from the closet and bought a lot of those 15% off GameStop gift cards.  Then I combined them with rewards coupons for Steam Bucks.

I have enough in my wallet to cover the system plus tax and shipping now, so just ready to fire when able.

I'm at Q2 2022, which is what it said before the delay, I'm pretty sure.

It's not like the sales have been anything to write home about, but having $400 plus sitting in my Steam wallet since before Summer has been challenging, to say the least. "Oh, that game looks interesting... NO! No, no, no. Steamdeck, steamdeck, STEAMDECK!"

Really want more info and price on that Switch-like dock. That needs further explanation, especially if you can add HDD/SSD storage, dingles, dongles and other shiyit

Reserved the 512gb version, very interested to see revues for all units. My main concern being the screen quality of the anti glare glass (potential dulled quality due to the anti glare glass) and whether it’s better to go with the 256gb model and throw an anti glass screen protector instead.

No talk about Pandemic: The Game being de-listed from Steam?
Pulled from all storefronts by the publisher, Asmodee Digital. Seems remarkably coincidental with their acquisition by Embracer Group. Pretty insane, it's a goddamn board game from 2018.

Always a hilarious display of stupidity when games are pulled games from digital storefronts with no warning, instead of telling people and getting those sweet
last minute sales like with Jump Force

Some publishers are just averse to money

I love the "fuggit, we're losing the license in 2 days, here it is for $1" sales. I bet something like the Jump Force, with Shonen characters, has a stipulation to specifically not do that, though. Japanese companies are notorious for price lockdowns (see Nintendo).

I think shipping is supposed to be included in the cost already

Couple Jump Force related questions -

1. Is it worth buying before delisting
2. Is the Ultimate Edition worth spending a dollar or two more over the Deluxe Edition?
3. Does the Ultimate Edition include all DLC or is there more DLC needed to own the complete game?

Thanks in advance

Ultimate just comes with some extra manga shirts and the first character pass. I wouldn't say the shirts are essential, even for people that like cosmetics. It doesn't include all of the DLC, it's missing the 2nd character pass and the preorder dlc which contains better cosmetics than what the ultimate edition has.

If you don't care for cosmetics then grab deluxe + 2nd character pass. If you want absolutely everything then grab Ultimate + 2nd character pass + pre-order dlc. The preorder dlc is a DLC only available via steam I think, and it's kinda hidden

EDIT: Jump Force Ultimate Edition is almost the same price as deluxe on humble so I would get that anyway

I repaired my Alienware Alpha today.  I hadn't used it since October 2020.  It wouldn't boot up because it was getting the "yellow light of death" which is a well-known problem among Alpha and Steam Machine owners.  But I ordered a new CMOS battery from Amazon, did a tear down, installed the battery, and it seems to be working good as new!  :D

Stop me if you've heard this before... Nvidia thinks GPU will lessen in the back half of the year with the release of the RTX 40 series.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-cfo-gpu-shortages-will-ease-in-2h-2022
I could see some justification for this since it's on a different node than the 3000-series Ampere cards. And Nvidia has supposedly locked down a lot of TSMC's fabs for this. But the only way you'd flood the market to bring prices down would be if they were selling 3000 cards off the 8nm fabs at the same time which won't happen.

I guess you won't see a bunch of people rushing to fire sale their old cards before the 4000 series drops though.

So... GPU prices will normalize in... 2034?  Also Outriders is $18 on Fanatical.  Dunno if that's a good price or not.  Looks like a standard pop-a-mole over-the-shoulder shooter despite the hype.

EA was capping when they said they was going to fix Battlefield 2042... I refunded this broke POS on Steam even though I got to level 50... CS will do it for you because they got so many complaints and know it's broken and bad game...

Looks can be deceiving. In practice, it's very much not a cover-based shooter, despite the mechanic being in the game. If you play defensively, you'll get shredded in the end game, unless things have drastically changed since the last major update. It's very much a "the best defense is a good offense" game. Despite that being counter to my typical style, I enjoyed it in co-op.

Graphics card prices aren't gonna stabilize anytime soon, don't care what they say. Best case, they'll become like the Xbox Series X where they're in stock for a couple minutes, as opposed to a couple seconds like how it is now

I rode out my GTX 980 build for 6 years, so my RTX 3070 prebuilt from 2021 should last me until at least 2026. Maybe by then the prices will finally be normal-ish... or maybe we'll all be dead by then

And the GamePass continues to consume content.

"You will own nothing and be happy"

They're allowing Kotick to remain, as well.  So don't expect any workplace improvements, it seems.

Holy hell that is some news to wake up to.  Biggest acquisition news ever.

gonna be things later like "Diablo 4 a Gamepass exclusive",  "Overwatch 2 exclusive Microsoft content online".  Honestly, the Call of Duty business model might even become more favorable.

Can we fire Bobby Kotick now??

I'm fairly positive he's out once everything is finalized next year. Everything from now until then is PR talk to try to keep things moving as they have been. He'll get tens (if not hundreds) of millions to leave and there will be no justice for the people he's wronged but at least he'll finally be gone.

I don’t know why, but waking up to read the Activision acquisition news made me oddly uneasy. I’m a Microsoft fan, but it doesn’t exactly seem like all of their acquired studios have thrived lately. Will be interesting to see how this impacts Blizzcon and WoW … wonder if we’ll finally see a console port.

The entire Star Wars franchise (Lucasfilm) was sold to Disney for $4 billion in 2012.

Zenimax (Bethesda) acquired by Microsoft for $7.5 billion in 2021

Microsoft is paying ~$68.7 billion to acquire Activision-Blizzard in 2022.   Just to give an idea of the scope on this thing.

I also wonder what's Sony's next move.

Microsoft just gobbled up one of - if not THE - top AAA Publishers here. Who knows what games might or might not be Microsoft-Exclusive forever; or timed-exclusive for months to a year or 2 or so.

Does Sony maybe buy something big like say - Take-2? SEGA? Square Enix? EA? UbiSoft?
