Yep. Looks like just as big of a leap in graphics as Demons Souls PS5 & the Halo remake to anyone with working eyes. Can't wait to play both parts of TLOU remake. $140 well spent. LMAO!

This thread is always good for a laugh. Thanks guys.

Seriously the original game is in my top 10 of all time & I never played the multi-player mode so I'll pick this up.

That gives me an idea. They really should remake the Insomniac Spider-Man games. Those things are so old and busted.
You can't make these jokes around Sony. The jokes and memes about Morbius led them to rereleasing it for a second bomb. They would absolutely greenlight something like a Spiderman remake

What a freaking waste of AAA effort. Sad to think of what they could have been making with those resources.
Reports say TLOU Remake was made by a San Diego studio (Visual Arts and Service Group) as practice for next gen development. Naughty Dog yoinked it to finish it up.

$70 is insanity.

The PayTooMuchAssGamer forum is down the street a ways, sir.

Be careful of muggers.

The Last of Us remake reminds me of the Halo and Demon’s Souls remakes … they all look more “modern” but all them lack the soul of the original game designs. Halo CE characters look absolutely awful, outside of Masterchief … the ambiance of Demon’s Souls just isn’t quite there, it’s too clean and not grim enough … and now Last of Us characters look more realistic but have lost their spark …

Meh, the Last of Us is nothing I would want to replay unless they dramatically overhauled the gameplay. It’s a decent story, but it wasn’t fun to play … it was a slog in parts (ooo … another board “puzzle”) and Part II ruined a lot of the positive associations that Part I created … so I really don’t get it, but then I think I stopped being a Naughty Dog sometime after Uncharted 2 came out.

The point of CAG is to pay what you want to pay for a game, console, accessory, etc. however long that takes to get what you want.
The point of CAG is gaming deals. Except in rare circumstances such as conditions of extreme scarcity, MSRP is not a deal.

A simple fix for the TLOU remake's lack of value would be to include the upcoming multiplayer game with the purchase for free (a la Resident Evil 3/Village) but still allow the MP to be purchased separately to maintain the playerbase. But if they were going to do that, they would have said as much already.

What if it's Free to Play, as some people are expecting?

I considered that but I was trying to be optimistic. I would hope that there would be some sort of sizeable reward for ownership of the game then (but in a way that isn't P2W). Depending on how they intend to monetize the game, you could still maybe make it work but it'd be a lot harder.

You guys are nuts if you think these visual updates on TLOU are as big a leap as Demon's Souls or Halo 2 Anniversary, not to mention H2 came with 3 other full games even if we disregard the unplayable multiplayer, at $60. It looks better, but definitely not two full generations better. At least lean on the gameplay changes.

HCE:A I'm with Etcrane, visually it was botched. I don't like the art style change on Demon's Souls either but it is a drastic improvement in fidelity.

After Druckmann's pitch I don't think it'll be free. I also don't think that adds value to retail price when a significant portion of it is free, like Halo Infinite. What's the benefit to the buyer?

The cinematics were prerendered in the original and now it is done in real-time. So the biggest graphical improvement will be seen with in gameplay footage like the one screenshot I posted.

It's fine if people don't think the value is there or like the price tag, you can always wait for the price that is right for you or completely avoid it.

I think people, myself included, take more issue with the precedent (the bump to $70 in general still stings but this is a whole other level) and yet another greedy mistake by Sony in a long line of them due to their status as top dog (which I would argue is eroding).
I can only hope that if they don't course-correct due to this obvious overvaluing of the TLOU brand, that it flops sales-wise and a message is sent.
Interesting that he says it’s turbulent and may slip. Does almost sound like they’re maybe preparing the public that it may move. We shall see.
To be fair, when it comes to the bigger titles, he's not wrong. He's just saying that to cover his ass in case it does end up getting delayed between now and then (about a 5 month period). With Starfield delayed to 2023, unless MS has a holiday title they've yet to announce, this winter will be a reverse of last year so I can imagine that Sony is doing everything possible to keep that release window.

More people to play with and against in a multiplayer game. That's why a lot of the big multiplayer games are free to play these days.

Wouldn't you rather expereince something new instead of re-playing a (linear) story that you already know?

(I realize can say but now it has mp...for $70 though)

In theory sure. In practice I don't think TLOU needs to worry about a decently sized playerbase. It probably depends if this is full live service or not. They already have a lot of microtransactions available in TLOU and Uncharted multiplayer.

Hell, Infinite going free has seemingly been an overall detriment. They can't support it fast enough and they've still had the usual 343 playerbase cliff.

Bought Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen for $4.79 today. My first PSN purchase in months. :hot:
Same. I bought it after the CAG (shiftygism) with the avatar of the dude in a lazyboy (Pierre Bernard recliner of rage?) mentioned it on the last page.

I owned it on Switch already but convinced myself I needed it on PS5 and also got it for $4.31 on gamersgate for my Steam Deck. Now I will probably be too confused by what platform to play it on lol.

I had read that going forward buying games on steam/pc may be a better investment since the games would be playable/supported for longer (see PSN/Nintendo store issues with older consoles and digital purchases). If the Steam Deck really takes off, I would have a hard time arguing against making it my main device for gaming given its emulation capabilities as well. Maybe this is too off-topic for this thread though.

Context matters. Halo Infinite was rushed big time to get it out last year, leaving various features people expect out of the game to get the date they wanted. The MP seems to be the result of a string of underwhelming MP experiences that Halo fans have had issues with since Halo 4, so the free-to-play aspect seems to be the least of its issues from what I've seen people talk about. They just didn't seem ready for their launch.

Naughty Dog doesn't seem to be rushing this multiplayer game out, so I don't think they'll have issues stemming from that aspect of its development. They are definitely seeking a bigger audience for this game like many other free-to-play MP games out there (Rocket League, Fortnite, etc) and will probably have it on PS5 and PC to maximize their chance at a big audience to keep the game sustained and be worth the extra resources they've invested into the game over it just being an iteration of what was in the first game back in 2013.

Given that this most recent PSN sale is 2000+ items, are there any other recommendations other CAGs have similar to Shiftygism’s mention of Dragon’s Dogma? Any game or deal that could be flying under people’s radars? Just to keep the ball rolling, I picked up Bloodroots because this was the first time it had gotten a substantial sale on the PS Store.

And good call on the Dragon’s Dogma deal, Shiftygism—thanks for pointing that out!

Very dumb question. I can do both. I can listen to my same music playlist everyday and add new songs as they come to my attention. I can also rewatch my faves from the Blu ray collection and still go to the theater/apps for new releases. That's the magic of being an adult. Crazy right?!

Yeah, I was going to point this out. Most of the "lol no difference" screenshots are showing prerendered cinematics versus the remake real time.

But what does it matter if the cinematics are pre-rendered vs real time if the gameplay and level of interactivity remains the same. If they were adding gameplay elements or new content, even just an additional dlc or something truly new, I would be fine with paying $70. As it stands now, the Last of Us was memorable but not particularly fun to play imo … so I just don’t see the hype for this.

Not similar at all to Dragon's Dogma, but what looks like a good deal that may fly under people's radar is the Leisure Suit Larry double pack of Wet Dreams Don't Dry and Wet Dreams Dry Twice. Individually, each game is $40 ($80 total for both) and the bundle of both games is $65, but right now the bundle is on sale for $9.74 if you're a Plus Subscriber. That's a damn good discount in my book, so I took a chance on them.

I'm with you on this 100%. TLOU was one of the most overrated games in recent memory. Good, competent game; yet a complete slog in parts.

The public reception surprises me too. Because I don't personally know any friends that are into zombie / survival horror games at all. Plus one close friend who is very much into all of the various Sony movie-story-cinema games feels the same way.

Naughty Dog remaking TLOU made total sense to me after they said TLOU2 just finally past 10 million in sales. That number would be great for many games but is probably considered a major bomb by Sony with the first game selling 20+ million and Part II very likely having a much higher budget.

I would hope they were holding off putting out a PS5 native version of TLOU2 until this could get out the door.

I believe they include console bundles in those sales figures too. The original had a PS3 and PS4 bundle. Part 2 just had a limited edition if I remember correctly.

I also picked up The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: The Complete Trilogy for $4.50. They're supposed to be Diablo-style games, but I have read that it's a great value to get all three titles in the series for that price.
