Good picture, and best of all it's pretty much lag free, even at 480p. The HDTV calibration test in Guitar Hero II comes out to 0MS on it. Is in the 50 MS range on my brothers Dell LDC set.

If you're concerned about backlight/lamp life, the DLP has the shortest time in-between replacement of the three you listed. The average rating varies a lot depending on usage and other factors, but 1000-2000 hours is appropriate. If you get a DLP, you're looking at changing bulbs every one to two years.
I chose LCD because they generally use less power, generate less heat, and have excellent life expectancy compared to the two. Plasmas have improved in lifespan, power, and heat output considerably over the years, but are still beaten by a good LCD in those areas, though plasma does still offer better picture overall.

As mentioned, it's all a matter of personal preference.

Hit the nail on the head. Decide what's most important to you. Although an LCD is right for me based on other factors, it should be noted that DLPs have the best screen size / price ratio.

Some of Sony's LCD rear projection sets are cheaper actually. I got my 50" in June for $999.99 at Circuit City.
Picture on the Samsung DLPs is a bit better than on the LCD rear projection sets though. But for me, the Sony was good enough for the price, and the extra bulb life (rated at 8,000 hours) helped sell me on it.

There are newer DLP's that use LED lights. With these, you don't have to worry about replacing a bulb every year or so.As mentioned, it's all a matter of personal preference.

Just talked with a coworker (yeah, I'm on here at work) who said the latest Consumer Reports had a rundown on LCD vs. plasma and said that with the latter you get a better value per square inch. Previously I thought that LCDs were supposed to be cheaper, so knowing this I'd definitely go with plasma because the picture quality is excellent, the screen is really bright, and you'd have to use it a crazy amount to burn in or out the screen. (Just don't play games with a static HUD on it for marathon stretches.)
That comes about because of size. There are some reasonably priced 50" plasmas, and have been for a while (i.e. the Panasonics over the summer were around $1300-1500 for a 50").
There aren't many 50" LCDs period (not sure I saw any consumer models in stores when I was shopping for a TV in May/June--maybe something now) and anything above the 32-37" range tend to be over the $2000 mark.
So definitely a better price per inch ratio on plasmas. So if size is important to you (and it should be--I'd never go smaller than 50" again for my main TV) plasma's are a better option than LCDs from a value perspective, with DLP and LDC RPTVs being even cheaper, but not giving as good a picture. Lots of trade offs to be weighed when looking for the HDTV that's right for you.
I went with the LCD RPTV as it was the only 50" set I could find at $1000 or under, and the picture, while not as good as plasmas etc., was still damn nice. And since going 50" or bigger was a must for me, it was the logical choice. But others may have a smaller room/sit closer and be better off going with a 37" LCD or something.

That's what I have. Great TV. The LED should last anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000 hours. Depending on who you ask.

I'll be an asshole to whomever I damn well please. He's been contemplating a purchase for almost a year. At this point he should be fully fucking informed about the choices in HD. If not, he should take his inquiries to a different outlet since he's certainly not getting any answers here. It isn't hard to use Google either.

my Samsung 56" DLP is three years old (1080i max), i haven't change any bulbs yet (not that i want to), so i don't know about
the statement "every 1-2 years." And yes, i do use my TV (not a lot a lot, but definitely few hours everyday).

Dude, get a fucking life. You have way too much time on your hands to post repeatedly in a thread you have no interest in. And to spend time searching for past threads by someone asking for advice on a TV.
What a fucking, miserable, socially rejected loser you come across as. You need a good ass kicking, maybe then you wouldn't be such a prick.

It's not hard nor time consuming, so I'm not sure what angle you're working here. Maybe your jealous because your brain lacks the capacity to remember that someone has made multiple threads of similar nature in the past? Is that why you're being so brash and going with the "I would kick your ass hypothetically if I ever saw you in real life but I'm only saying this because I'm on the interenet" approach? Do you want me to PM you my address and we can't see how it works out?
I also like the whole "you have too much time to post in this thread" line. It gives the impression that I've stewed for weeks as to what responses I should write despite the fact that this thread has been around for less than a day. Good show.

And in response to your post before that?
Get a life. Seriously. Stop and think that not everybody goes on this forum every day. People have lives. Not everybody checks what threads are reposts. Not very many people give a shit. Go to the avsforum, you see the same shit posted over and over. What do people do? They either help or they ignore the post. Quit being a whiny bitch.

I click threads that interest me, read them, and if I'm interested enough to respond I bang out a post.
About 95% of the threads on this site are annoying nonsense, but I don't go off on some net nerd rage rant in them, I don't click on most of them, and just exit out of the ones I stumble in to.
