Alright, reviews are finally trickling in. Starcraft 2 is, some might say, more of the same. 'Course, "The same" was one of the best god damn games ever, so that's kinda exactly what a lot of us wanted.

I hope they do implement smartcasting and autocasting like in Warcraft 3. After playing that I realized how outdated the Starcraft interface was in comparison.

Starcraft 2 might be the first game I pay full price for since about 3 years ago. The single player campaign of the first game was great but the online aspect was sooo much better. I'll need to start practicing immediately too incase we have some more CAG vs PA games. I'll teach them not to call us CAGers...

Raymond/Ikai we need to play our games... sorry I haven't been on Battle.net, I've been playing on ICCup

btw there won't be any autocasting or smartcasting. Spells in SC are too important and energy intensive that random casting will not work (except medic healing and scv repairing).

Currently, unit abilities are set as smart casting, meaning when you have a group of casters selected, each time you wish to cast a spell, you will either have to click the icon or press the hot key and follow it with a click on the designated place on the map for it to cast. This will obviously prevent locking down a single unit with more than one ghost, though we are also still exploring possibilities to have different methods of casting for casters in which players would want to have multiple casts executed in a single command.

Cletus: Blech to playing PA. I'm all for inter-forum rivalry, but couldn't we go up against the Red vs Blue guys or something instead?

Firebat (Maybe - see recent Karune Briefings)

They were kind of lame, but if this is true, I'll miss them. I love the Firebat voice; it's slammin' ;)

(Oh, and sorry I haven't been on Battle.net in some time... probably won't start playing SC again until next year. Been insanely busy these days, for starters.)

Shinra's assessement of the Firebat is 100% correct. The only things they could really fight were Zerglings and Zealots, but their voices were great (Fire it up!). I really hope they get an upgrade. With the introduction of Banelings, that brings the total number of units they're useful against to "one".

Maybe they could set something on fire so it takes damage for a while after the battle ends or something. I dunno. They're just too cool of a unit to be ignored as badly as they were in SC 1.

I guess we can figured out all that stuff once the game is actually released. Until then I'll try not to let this thread become another Starcraft 1 thread (we already have one and it's stickied). :)

I can't wait to see what the zergs will be like. I had this idea where they would have separate upgrade paths like the Tau in Dawn of War. They could pick one path which focused on increasing hp and damage or another path that increased mobility and unlocked fast units or another that emphasised stealth and mobile lurkers etc. Then once you picked one set of upgrades there would be some kind of time/money penalty to change. This would make zergs even more of a guessing game to play against. It would probably be a pain in the ass to balance unfortunately.

I liked the idea of a terran unit which is build by a scv like a building. That seems like just the type of unit you would see in the terran race. I also somehow knew they would introduce a transformer unit. I remember thinking the Valkyrie would be better as a transformer. In one mode it could only attack air units and in the other it could only attack ground.

I'm not as familiar with protoss so I can't really say much. I've just been following interviews since they talk about them most out of all the races. I'll like to see even more of a sci-fi element to them. I have been secretly hoping they would remove storm but looks like no such luck. Yes we hates templers. storm = the devil.

Not a bad idea, but it seems kinda... not Zergish. I've heard Zerg players comment on just how difficult it is to switch paths with Protoss or Terran compared to their preferred race.

That's the "Thor" that can be built by the SCV. Personally, I'd like to see SCVs used as pilots, too...

As for the transformer - I don't think it can attack ground troops when it's flying, but I believe it can attack both while on the ground. Flying mode must be researched.

Dropping Psi Storm would cause a fucking riot from angry Executors worldwide. Glad they replaced the Dragoon and Reaver, though.

New Q&A batch out. Even more shit for ghosts, and Vikings (transforming mechs) no longer need upgrades to switch from terrestrial to arial. It is the main Terran air superiority unit.

If that makes it into the final version then I am switching races to terran. All you would need are some siege tanks and a thor behind with a comsat to spot for you to win.

You know, the more I think about it, the less impact I think that's gonna have on me. Attacking cliffed tanks with Goons is suicide already. Not being able to see the tanks will just mean my Goons will need less micro to get them up the ramp.

Also, about that comsat... not sure how to tell this to ya...

EDIT: Nevermind, scanner sweeps are still in. I was thinking they were gone, but it's missile turrets that have lost their detection ability. I updated the unit lists in the OP some. Added the nomad, changed the description of some things, added the note about simultaneous air/land fire, tentatively moved the Star Relic to the "not in" section, etc.

EDIT2: Fuck, was I ever not thinking. I won't even have Goons this time around.

I'm having a hard time visualizing how toss units are "warped" in. Will they be warped in similar to buildings like SC right now? And so, they can also be attacked like a larvae morphing or a hydra morphing into lurker? *confused*

About these Immortals, since they are equivalent to dragoons but are totally superior to tanks, won't that mean that TvP matches early-on will be more about marines vs lots? Man, they are truly pushing hard for marines to be at a whole new level which makes sense.

On warping: Any Protoss unit can teleport to a point within a pylon/Phase Prism's radius. I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming they must be within said radius to initiate the teleport. While warping, a "ghost" image of them will appear which is unable to fight but can be attacked. If they pylon/Prism is destroyed, so are the units teleporting to it. Also worth noting is that Protoss shields currently regenerate at twice the rate they currently do, but it's speculated that they must be within a pylon/Prism's radius to regenerate. Very interesting shit. Would certainly explain why we haven't seen any shield generators yet.

On Immortals: Immortals are definitely the anti-tank unit. Which is kinda weird, given how the Zealot was the traditional anti-tank unit for Protoss. They have twice the firepower of the traditional Dragoon, though their range is still shit. I'm assuming they move much slower. Their main advantage is a shield that activates when taking heavy fire, though it does not activate when being attacked by weaker units like Reapers or Zerglings. I do not know if it will still block weak attacks once activated or if these will bypass it altogether.

On Marines: Terran infantry in general is getting a huge boost. Medics have improved AI. Marines have health boosts. Ghosts get a shit-ton of new abilities, not the least of which is the paratrooper support. You can load a group of Marines (I want to say six) up in advance and call them down on the spot with a Ghost. I'm assuming this avoids AA defenses, but I don't know what happens if the Ghost gets killed. There's also the matter of the Reaper which can jump up cliffs, lay mines, and hide inside buildings.
