No, there are some serious server problems right now (at least I think there are)

By four o'clock I've discounted suicide in favor of killing everyone else in the entire world instead.

It was a side effect from turning the server clock back an hour. It was showing how many users were online in the last hour, since we changed the time.
Nothing to see here...move along. ;)

very interesting, but a nice thought, I was about to go manually change my time zone.

Now it should be accurate...the timezone in your profile should match the actualy timezone you are in.
