Yea I'd rather just hold my excitement for the final game. Probably won't be out until 2009 though.

GT5P is an intro to GT5. It still has a decent amount of content and is budget priced ($40 is considered budget next gen unfortunately). Last gen, SCE released GT4P, but never brought it stateside (it came to Europe and Japan, at budget price). There was also a GT Concept Car game released after GT3. Basically, there are several GT games, but only the main ones usually come stateside. SCEA is bringing this game stateside since there will not be a GT5 for a very long time, GT does have some popularity here (not as big as in Europe though). The game still has 60 cars (more than some racers), 5 tracks (which can be reversed and do have multiple routes), and it does have online play (which no GT game ever had). This was mostly intended to be a download, but they are releasing it in stores because:
-Not everyone has a credit card.
-Not every with a PS3 has internet connection (This is true, because I come across many with a PS3 at stores, but they have no internet).
-To most casuals, downloads are non-existent. For someone to see an actual case of GT5P on the store shelf, makes them more interested than hearing about a download (which is part of the reason I wish Namco Bandai sold Tekken 5: DR Online on a disc).

GT5 is still a long ways off (In 2009).

I feel like just waiting for the main game in 2009... I think having a prologue in the US might not been such a good idea because by the time GT5 comes out, people are going to feel that they've already gotten it, which would reduce some sales of GT5. ALso, for those who buy both versions, its like you bought GT5 for 99.98. because everything thats in GT5P, will be included in GT5, so its not like you're getting something extra...

Can the cars in GT5p receive damage?

GT fans will buy both. Many people are impatient and will buy it now, regardless. What you accomplish in GT5P, can be transferred over to GT5, so it's like a continuation. Many games have been sold in multiple parts and still did well, so I'm not worried. If you choose to wait, it's only your loss, because there won't be a full GT5 game for a very long time (It might not even come until 2010). The creator said himself, to create a car in GT1-2 took one day. GT3-4 took around a week. To design a car in GT5 takes around 3 months (due to inside and out being created). When you multiply by several number of cars, it will be quite a while until we see a GT5. GT5P gets GT5 started by getting the graphic engine started, online play started, and so on (It's kind of like a checkpoint of development).

Sales won't be affected. In Europe for example, GT4P sold 2 million copies, while GT4 sold 6 million. GT3 sold around the same GT4 did. The U.S. saw a big drop in GT3 to GT4 sales, but a lot of that had to do with no PS2 bundled version.

GT5P does not have damage though.

I dislike the whole argument that it's a "demo." It has 5 courses (10 layouts), over 60 cars, couple of game modes, 16 player online... and budget priced. Yeah, if they released it @ $60 sure I probably wouldn't get it.

If it favors Japanese cars too much I'll probably pass .

When I was in High School a friend got a 100% on a D.A.R.E. test and they gave him a D.A.R.E. duffel bag. Two years later, a drug dealer that was a friend of ours at the time asked to borrow something to transport 2kg of cocaine in and he handed over his D.A.R.E. bag. He brought it back to him with an oz of weed in it as a thank you.

To any and all GT faithful that plan to get this...

Avoid it like the plague. You buying this demo/beta is telling developers that it is OK to pay ridiculous amounts for a snapshot of the retail game. You are saying it's OK for us, the gamers, to be beta testers. I can not express how against this Prologue that I am... Just do us all a favor and avoid it. $40 is ridiculous to be a test dummy for the online, the new engine and modes/features... Shame on Polyphony to charge 40 now and 60 later for the GT faithful :bomb:

Oh, I have been on of the biggest GT fanboys out there and even though I was more disappointed with the later versions not having online modes and what not... I still think this is ridiculous. When GT5/P retail was sold in Japan it had EU and US servers to see how things worked out. Now it is coming stateside with more servers opening up. You are being a beta tester for the retail version. Shame on you Polyphony to rely on the GT faithful to spend $100 for GT5 whole...

I'm really on the fence with this. I enjoy GT but the Prologue's have always pissed me off. At least when GT4P came out I found it in Japan for like 1980 yen (about $17 at the time). Now this comes along at more than twice that.

I'm 99% sure I'll skip this unless Sony decided to be cool and include a $20-30 off coupon for GT5 in the package.

Actually, a GT Prologue/Concept car is NOTHING new. Europe and Japan received these in the past but the U.S. didn't.

Let me just explain, for PD to create a new GT these days (they had to remove online from the 4th to get it done on time), it takes several years, which is why there are smaller games in-between. The creator himself even said it takes 4-6 months to design ONE car on the PS3. And I doubt they're going to stop doing this because GT4P sold over 2 million copies worldwide (and never came stateside.

This is a game PS3 really needs and I expect it to do well.

But I don't care because I want a GT, and it will take forever to get one anway.

That's because last gen, a budget game was $20-$30. This gen, a budget game is $40. Don't be surprised if PS3 GH games are that price too. Also, development of GT5P wasn't exactly the same as GT4P (more like 2-3 times the amount).

I understand that and likewise when they released those over in EU and JAP regions I prayed that would never come stateside... unfortunately it did. I get that it takes them longer to create a car and to work things out but that's part of the game they are playing and more marketing jibber jabber than anything. More you work on something, easier it is, easier it gets, easier it becomes with new techniques that speeds things up. Why should I be part of their master plan to milk my pockets of a demo of a game? Is $60/unit sold not enough?

To each his own. I am a GT fanboy but I refuse to pay for a demo and to become a beta tester. 8-)

A secret from the net has been confirmed by Sony:

http://blog.us.plays...ogues-god-mode/

Sometimes even the best kept secrets seem to find their way out - that’s just the nature of the beast - so it was no surprise (at least not much) when co-workers started to email us links to leaked Gran Turismo 5 Prologue screenshots… and the rumor mill it had kick-started.

Posted Image

Amongst the thousands of questions asked, let’s tackle a few to start: first, this is indeed the Scuderia Ferrari F2007; second, that is the actual Ferrari red as sanctioned by the Ferrari team; and last but not least, the Ferrari F2007 will be available at all Gran Turismo Ferrari dealerships for 2 million game credits.

Posted Image

With slick graphics, a 2.4 liter 90-degree V8 engine and the amazing physics of a F1 vehicle, the Ferrari F2007 is truly a beauty. Driving it is an adrenaline-pumping, hair-standing, goose-bumping experience… I hope everyone gets to experience this “God Mode within Gran Turismo”. Over the last couple weeks we’ve been driving this car in our offices every single day, with the volume cranked up… there is nothing more soothing than the high-rev scream of the Scuderia speeding down the Fuji straight…

More to come on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue soon. In the meantime, check out these new screen shots.

It's also mentioned in the comments that in-game chat and private races w/friends won't be in the final game, but are planned for a patch.

It's also mentioned in the comments that in-game chat and private races w/friends won't be in the final game, but are planned for a patch.

When you say in-game chat, is it vocal or just typed?

I pre-ordered Prologue. Can't wait to play it!

Since we can take our Prologue stats and export them to the real GT5 game later, will you do it or start from scratch again?

I'm assuming vocal because I don't think IM's are a good idea for an online racing game.
