That’s the nice thing about statistics, they’re just numbers until someone tries to apply context to them.

I figure that I would comment on this article without reading it Just don’t leave any bad reviews on my book on Amazon!
Anyways, with the gaming audience aging I would think that the M and AO ratings on games would increase as well.... But you make a very good point with the flood of Spongebob and Hannah Montana games hitting the market diluting the overall market.

This is awesome, I can’t wait for it.
I haven’t beaten the game yet, but my goal is to beat it before this comes out.

"Finally I can get my fix of the CAGcast… I’m such a junkie, you seriously need to make the CAGcast into liquid form so I can carry it around in a syringe and just injected it for instant relief… well that or bite sized cookies "

I always interpreted the codes as Easy, Taxing and Meaty. The ESRB versions make a lot more sense.

I agree that there are more crappy games coming out but I feel that is true for all ratings but you’re right probably that more crappy E rated games are coming out. Also it seems that many games that would have gotten an M rating due to violence and blood are now getting teen ratings. I am looking forward to “good” mature games that are mature not because of the many ways of death included but due to actual mature themes and situations.

Maybe they’ll have a bonus mini-game where you can paint Eater-X’s face.

"Here is my issue though, yes M-rated games have dropped from 8% of the market to 6%, but the question is “why”. It doesn’t feel like there are less M games for my dollar.”
I think that a lot of it is perception. I don’t even look at ratings. My game purchases are selected by what I think I will enjoyable. And when I actually buy a game in a store (as opposed to simply ordering it online), I always know what I want, so I don’t browse. All rising flow of casual “E” game simply isn’t noticed.

GameGO had it right - best review system, really.
No numbers, no letters, no anything. You needed to read the review and determine for yourself what the game merits.
Granted they lasted 1 issue…

Some people don’t get it. The Wii is a FAMILY system. When your wife and 6 year old and 4 year old can play a game of Mario Party 8 together, you won’t think it sucks. Yes I am also a hardcore gamer.

I’m guessing the majority of those “E” rated games are from the sudden influx of pet games on the Wii that end with a “Z.”

Did you read his personal blog? He explains that he’s leaving because his passion for the job was starting to die off, but the firing of his best friend was the main catalyst here. Alex, Jeff, and Ryan were great friends before GameSpot and his firing was probably a huge blow to their passion for the job.

Maybe they can incorporate pant splitting action, then Wombat might be interested.

Hey Wombat, where can one get the codes to unlock XBLA games? I run a site and I would like to give away an XBLA game, but I haven’t found out where to get those unlock codes. Any idea?
P.S. This is also my contest entry. Rez HD FTW!

Aren’t we in the middle of a casual games “explosion”? With all the puzzle games and party games coming out now - for every system, not just the Wii - this isn’t really surprising.
I agree with other commenters, though - I’d like to see this chart weighted by sales figures. I bet that M gets very big, then.
