Please use this thread to discuss current & future Virtual Console games. Instead of making a specific thread about each game, just ask here. There are plenty of people here whom will help you out--just have some patience! All news & rumors in regards to the Virtual Console & WiiWare titles will be found here.

For updates to the DSi shop, please check the official thread here!

03/23/09: I have officially taken over this thread. Things that still need to be done:
  • Current Version: 1.0 Alpha, will be formatting more tonight
  • Short FAQ
  • Move images over to my own photobucket account so Lilboo no longer has to worry about them
  • Create section for most wanted games, keeping track of CAG/Nintendo Power Editors/Nintendo Power Readers requests
  • Potentially a section for sales, even though this data is sketchy at best
  • Upcoming known releases (primarily Wiiware)
  • Block sizes for DLC
  • Small section for foreign releases (UK, Japan)
  • Add Commodore 64 Section/Icon, release details, etc
  • Section details games available on other systems (i.e., an XBLA release of a game with multiplayer, or a compilation disc)
  • Games that won't make it for ____ reason (legal, forgotton, licensing rights, etc)
  • First party Nintendo games still not out
  • Include links to Nintendo Media Site, IGN Wii-kly release list, reviews or games, Nintendo Power results, etc
  • Charts! Controller compatibility, release quantities, etc
  • Ordered lists of games by release date, cost, size, etc.
  • Games with changes (Waverace 64, Pokemon Snap, Startropics...)
  • Create DSiware thread in DS Section with same format
  • Block size ranges for each console - this is only based on my own downloads; willing to take cross-sections from people if they want to help on this

Yeah, it just def got to me after a while. I do apologize for getting burned out about it, but it's Nintendo's fault. [-( ;)
Just week after week of just "eh" releases, almost 3 years into the life of the Wii and still no mention of a storage solution, and with WiiWare not being all that great, it's just.. ::sigh::

Well that, plus I was doing this a lot when I was unemployed or had better work hours.

Oh and the person who made those icons.. I couldn't even tell you! It was one of those people who rarely posted! I had contacted him about C64 banner (when it was announced) and he never got back to me since.

ONE WIIWARE GAME AND TWO VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

March 23, 2009

Are you immune to this season's rampant basketball fever? If so, the Wii™ Shop Channel invites you and your friends to set up an action-packed tournament of your own with a fresh crop of downloadable games. This week brings an instantly irresistible puzzle game to the ever-expanding WiiWare™ library, plus a pair of classic TurboGrafx16 import titles for the Virtual Console™ – one a vintage vertical-scrolling shooter, the other featuring the beloved Bomberman. Draw up your brackets, grab those Wii Remote™ controllers and shoot for the top spot.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Pop'Em Drop'Em SAMEGAME (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): SAMEGAME is a simple yet engrossing puzzle game where you must clear matching blocks in sets of two or more. Score high by clearing out more blocks at once. If you manage to clear the entire grid, you can keep on playing with a whole new layout. Getting rid of all those blocks is the key to racking up points. Adjust the difficulty level in a one-player game by trying different grid sizes and multiple colors. Up to four players can face off in any one of three multiplayer modes. “Fame Game,” the most straightforward choice, is similar to the one-player version. “Shame Game” turns the tables by forcing players to go for the lowest score. “Blame Game” is a free-for-all as everyone vies for blocks on one big grid. Choose from different block styles, background graphics and music to customize your playing experience.

Virtual Console

Bomberman®'94 (TurboGrafx16, 1-5 players, Rated E for Everyone—Comic Mischief, 700 Wii Points): Bomberman has arrived to restore peace on the planet, which has been split into five parts by an evil hand. In addition to the nine members of the Bomber Family, the character Rooi shows up to lend a hand. Jump on the eggs that appear from destroyed soft blocks and you can ride one of five types of Rooi. Each Rooi has different special abilities—use them well and you'll ride to victory.

DETANA TWIN BEE (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Cartoon Violence, 700 Wii Points): It's the popular vertical-scrolling shooter renowned for its cute and comical world. Here come Twinbee and Winbee on a mission to save the planet from evil alien invaders. Standing in their way are six stages full of goofy enemies. Play as Twinbee in single-player mode, or team up with Winbee in two-player cooperative mode. With powerful attacks like Big Shot, or Twin Attack and Burst Attack in two-player mode, there's plenty of sting in their arsenal. Use your Shot to transform Bells into items with various effects. Stock up on these bad boys to expand your attack range and really have a blast.

Aw, heart Bomberman! is it just as good/better than '93?!

Cool.

Although, I don't think you should bother with a sales section. You can't get complete data on that anywhere.

I don't know if it needs to go here, but it could be fun to do a relative comparison using the Nintendo channel, looking at unique users. If someone were to get it organized, a weekly or monthly analysis might be possible. Only problem is the obnoxious amount of work to get the data.

Thanks to lilboo and Strell for all the work here.

Strell, thanks for taking the helm. Liboo, thanks for all of your work.

Can we put some/all of the Wii VC Channel data up on the Wiki, so we can (somewhat) get the 'multiple editor' ability for some of the information? I'm not really familiar with CAG's wiki, so I'm not sure what the state of it is.

There's a summary of 2D Boy's (World of Goo) GDC speech:
http://www.gamasutra...php?story=22866

Pretty interesting stuff. They say the Wiiware release of World of Goo made up most of their revenues (55-60%; No wonder Nintendo is localizing it in Japan), followed by sales at 2D Boy's own web site (25%), then by Steam sales (12-18%), and the least amount of revenues came from the boxed retail release (2-3%; the only thing Brighter Minds got revenues from as 2D Boy self-published all of the other releases).

well heck yeah activity feed. the only reason I noticed this new thread was i saw strell's handiwork pop up there. fascinating.

since I'm here now I have a VC question. I was visiting with my nephews as I find myself doing pretty much every week lately and I noticed them finally doing something online other than Facebook (what an eight year old needs with social networking is beyond me) they were playing a bomberman clone something about fireman or what not. long story short I'm thinking of making my next Wii purchase a bomberman so they can learn a little something about where these web clones come from. Which bomberman would you suggest? Unfortunately in terms of controllers I only have 2 cube 1 Wii Remote (Nunchuk/Classic Controller). I'd like to pick something in the more traditional bomberman style. I'm not particularly interested in a bomberman adventure game.

World of Goo broke my Wii - the bastards :bomb:.

Well, it kept freezing whenever I started it so I deleted it - the delete hung for an hour so I powered off. Now I have a semi-corrupt Wii. I can still play stuff and save but I can't access the memory management or even re-download World of Goo (it is gone but didn't free the room so I can redownload and since I can't manage the game saves or channels at all I can't clear more space).

As a result my Wii shop purchases have come to a complete halt and I barely play the thing any more because I'm worried my uncopyable game saves (Animal Crossing, SSBB) will get hosed. It has been this way for a few months - I need to drum up the nerve and will to call Nintendo and insist they fix this for free (and without just simply wiping the memory). But I always have something better/more important to do ;).

ugh.. uncopyable game saves. that's that's unacceptable. Even for the 'family friendly' status the Wii has it's inane that you can't back up your saves for instances exactly like this

Nintendo can move save files if there's a hardware issue, although I'm not sure what that would cost you given that your Wii is probably already out of warranty.

Sadly enough, the locked saves is a fairly big issue, and one that really makes no sense. However there is a solution if you're willing to look for it. The Homebrew Channel has a set of applications that will allow you to copy saves to a SD card and back. I did successfully move my roommate's Rockband 2 save from my Wii to his this past weekend, although I'm not sure what the ramifications of the online mode are as we haven't really played online.

Yeah, it's sad that people have to resort to homebrew to copy saves, we should be able to do that legitimately.

Hey Strell,

I did not do the old graphics, but this will give the C-64 the love it deserves until the next set of pretty pictures.

Thanks for taking over the thread, and thanks lilboo for starting it. If only Nintendo put as much effort as you guys.

Bomberman '93 or '94 are probably your best bet. They are both a good value since they are TG-16 games and include a classic single-player mode as well as a multiplayer battle mode. '94 uses the kangaroo thingies a lot, so you might prefer '93.
