Not sure if it works for everyone but if you go to Dota 2 on steam and scroll down under the gameplay videos it should say that you already own Dota 2, and if you click play now it will let you download it.

You still need a key to play the game, or an early access pack.
If you download it the only option you will get is spectators mode.
so you can view people playing the game but not play yourself.

It says it because you got an invite and you already own it because of that. It probably went to your spam folder.

Wait, if you were invited to the beta, does that mean you can just play for free?
http://www.cashle.com/?ref=ErezYehuda - You can rack up points and money surprisingly quickly, and redeem them for pretty much anything (I've gotten 1600 MSP and the money to buy Minecraft and all the Humble Bundles). Check it out, it may well be worth your while. 
Also, it has a startlingly good community in the chat.

Invites are worth less than a $1 at this point. And if you were invited, it means you can play for free.

Thats the Early Access Bundle. Most of the value is from the items that come with it. You can easily get a DOTA 2 invite for less than a $1 from any trading forum.
