Anyone have experience with either? I am interested but I am always wary of 3rd party accessories.

I have the CTA power grip. I love it.
I need a grip to play ds/3ds consoles.
Has a on/off switch for extra power. You can play your 3ds down to zero battery, flip the switch and theres 3 more hours.
Takes about 6 hours to charge.
Theres supposed to be some flicker problem, but I never ran into it. I think if you charge the grip while playing it flickers.
Comfortable grip. I wish they made one for the 3ds XL, I just ordered that dreamgear one.. its not near as nice.
