Why are people concerned about Greatest Hits?

Some people are very anal.
True. Also, it appears to me that some people around here buy games to put them on a shelf and stare at. I think if you buy a game it should be to play the game so who gives a shit what the cover looks like as long as it works...

You can't do both? Play the game AND have it look nice when it's on your shelf? What's wrong with wanting that, anyway?

No, you can't. Most adults don't have their video game collections on display in their homes. No matter what you do, a shelf with CDs, DVDs and/or video games out for all to see looks unbelieveably bad. They should be kept in a drawer or in a cabinet. I cringe everytime someone posts OMG!!!1!!!111 CHECK OUT MY UBER RAD COLLECTION!!!111!!!!11 OMG!!!11!1!

I thought that when I'm able to grow up I'd have the opportunity to have a more mature, intelligent group of peers to get along with. As you get older, you get more tolerant to the stuff people are interested in, and realize that all that matters it who the person is. I really don't care if I go to someone's house and they have 6,000 games on display. Really -- I don't.
I think your statement is pathetic. You're how old and still that superficial? Go ahead and stereotype the people who put their collections (and hobbies) out on display... at least they're not taking the middle schooler approach of, "oh my god, what if someone else thinks this is lame?!"

Is it just the collectiablity factor? Or is there more to it? As I see it its just the same game cheaper right?
Some people will say that people who buy Greatest Hits games just rode the bandwagon and bought it after it was popular. I don't agree.
I do prefer "original" games over the Greatest Hits ones. I think that my DVD rack looks awesome when all of the colors match. There's a pattern formed by the (upper) black trim part on the sides of cases that looks pretty neat. For a few games I did spend $2 or so buying the non-GH inserts over a site I knew of, but that's back when I had a steady income and pretty much no financial obligations. Then again, that was also back when I bought a game just 'cause it was cheap. I've certainly swayed away from that path, now.

I buy Greatest Hits, because I figure any game that sold 500,000 copies must be darn good to attract that many fans.

Who says I give a crap about what people are interested in? I'm proud of the fact that I play video games and I don't try to hide it from anyone. Also, I don't care what a person likes to do for fun in their spare time - to each his own. With all of the dorky stuff I like to do in my free time I'm certainly in no position to make fun of anyone for whatever hobbies they might have.
That said, I just think that in an adult owned home (not some teenager's room) having a display rack filled with video games, DVDs, CDs, etc. looks amazingly bad from an interior design point of view and it makes me cringe. It's the same reaction I would have upon seeing a pack of ceramic tigers on the coffee table or stuffed animals all over the place. Yeah, it's personal taste but so what? I'm quite sure at some point in your life you've had an opinion about the way something looks. I never said (or even alluded to) that having a video game collection on display somehow makes you "not cool" or whatever label YOU want to put on it. I thought that when grew up I'd have the opportunity to talk to other adults who wouldn't jump to conclusions about something just because they have a god-awful looking display rack in their living room - oh well.

What do you think of a room with a bookshelf filled with books?
And just curious, where do you store your stuff? I store my CD/DVDs in notebooks. It does look a lot better (and more compact) imho.

Good point. Books aren't that bad, IMO but I think there would have to be a ceratin way to display them - a wall of books sucks just as bad as a wall of video games but I have seen nice "libraries" in certain homes that pull it off quite well. Probably because they aren't made of plastic because plastic is very cheap looking.
I store all my games in two large drawers of my entertainment center below the TV. It was custom made for this purpose and holds probably 500 DVD cases if it was filled to capacity. The piece is solid white with only one smoked glass door in the middle so I can still use the remote on my AV equipment. It hides everything.

Um, why should you, exactly? I certainly don't give a shit if you think I could have gone with a lighter shade of green when I painted the spare bedroom in my house. It's just my opinion about how something looks. I'd cringe if I was to ever see your pc/game room because I think those types of things look horrible just like you might cringe upon seeing the furniture I picked out for my house. I really don't see the problem here.

screw all you anal fucktards, the red bar won't kill you
Yeah it does seem a little strange some people will pay twice as much money, just to get a non-GH title without the green or red bar. Seems like a gigantic waste of money (and more time wasted at work).
