So, I finally got to play SiN... I had only played the demo many years ago, and finally got it for extremely cheap (99 cents cheap) and also found the expansion pack, Wages of SiN.

I load it up, and right off the bat, I can't get the OpenGL to work. Kind of a pain in the ass, I have to play in the ass ugly software renderer mode. The game sounds like it was recorded in a tin can, the enemies and levels are very boring, and the characters themselves are uninsprired and lame.

I really gave this game a chance, I put about 3 - 4 hours into the single player mode, but even that's designed like shit. It's very repetitive, very stale, and alot of "Find the key card to open the door".

I guess I'm not looking forward to the SiN episodes now, because wow, the original pretty much sucks ass. The only high point is that, for some reason, the expansion pack, Wages of SiN, goes for about $30 on Ebay, so I can more then make up the entire cost of this shitty experience.

I called my lady friend last night and said my buddy had to beat off on my chest, she is kinda pissed at me, but it was the best idea I had all night, and I stand by it.

You think I should excuse the fact that it's a shitty game now, just because it's old? I've played a ton of old games that have kept their age very well... I have a feeling SiN sucked then, and it sucks now, and I really hope in the past 8 years or so Ritual Entertainment has learned how to make a decent FPS.

Half Life is old, and it still stands up as an excellent FPS, along with the Doom games. I guess I'm just disappointed that not only is this game a cookie cutter FPS, it's a very bad one at that... I just hate all the characters and their one liners. At least Shadow Warrior and Duke Nukem were a bit funny.

If I recall correctly, there were 3 seperate patches you had to install to get the video working. Once patched, I remember it looking sharp and moving like butta. You also have to freaking understand that the game is like 10 years old and alot has advanced since then. If you played the game back in 97 (i think), you would have though it was better than sliced bread.

Doom really does not hold up anymore. Sure it was kind of a genre starter but the game itself is pretty poor IMO. Doom is the epitome of 'get a keycard go through door.'

Its too bad you're still a prick with a stupid gimmick.

I didn't put much time into it either without figuring out that I would not be playing a lot of it. I played it after I pre-ordered Sin episodes, so I saw it more as a bonus than anything else, but I definately am not going to spend much time playing it.

Also if Emergence sucks, episode one comes out on June 1st so I won't stay too pissed for too long

Again, I very much understand the game is 8 years old (came out in 98), but I really could care less when it came out. As much as I hated the software renderer mode (yea, I patched the game fully, I know the one you get free with SiN Episode 1 is probably smooth as butter), the graphics weren't my biggest gripe with the game.

It was the shitty enemies, the boring levels, the lame platforming... it seems as if every time SiN started getting good, there was another fetch quest I had to do. I mean, I assume the game had some kind of cult status because many years later, a sequel is coming out.

But again, I don't care when the game came out, a shitty game is a shitty game. I'm judging it based on its own merits, not comparing it to anything else in the genre (except maybe games that came out around the same time).

The only redeeming value is the expansion pack is apparently a collectors item, so I'll make more then enough to grab SiN Episode 1 and still end up with $10 or so left over. Hopefully that won't be as bad, but if it is, at least that was free too.

Gamestop has Emergence coming out on May 9th..?

I can only hope that the next few episodes offer Wages of Sin sometime, for the fans.

Doom pretty much invented keycard fetching, like it or not.

And how in the world does Doom not hold up anymore? I still play through the whole thing about once a year. Sometimes I do it vanilla, other times jDoom and whatnot. The game is still awesome and the various sourceports just add to it.

Back on topic, thanks for the info. I was tempted to preorder SiN Episode 1 just for the original SiN bonus, but I think I'll pass.

Apparently you'll always be able to get SiN when you get SiN Episode 1, since Gamestop lists it as a feature of the retail version.

Sure, Doom had you find the keycard, but it wasn't near as annoying as it is in SiN, imo.
