I've seen the Drew Carey Show, and I thinked they danced in front of a theater once. Looked rundown, I wouldn't go.

I went to a lot of show at the Agoura theater back in the day. I grew up in Cleveland but I haven't been there for a long time so I can not comment if the area went south or not.

Its a great venue to see bands though.

I had a 2 hour layover there on my way to Montana a couple years back.

Oh, I almost forgot, the Indians blew game 7 of the 1997 World Series to the Marlins. Thats about the extent of my Cleveland knowledge.

The inside is better than the outside. The area itself (from what I remember) was nothing special. That was over 10 years ago though...things might have changed.

The Agora was really easy for me to find, coming from Dayton. It was April 2005, though (went to see Ash, and The Bravery), so things may have changed. There was some major road construction right in front of the venue but it was easy to get around, I'd assume it's done now. It's basically in the middle of a downtown area, and it was fairly easy to find. Big sign out front.

Parking was right outside the venue-- There's also some behind it that's secured parking as well, but we parked in the side lot next to the tour busses. The area seemed okay, but I was with my mommy (Yeah, I occasionally drag my mom to gigs with me). Nothing I'd want to run around at night alone in, but with a short walk into the venue and out, you should be fine. If you're in the ballroom, be warned the place is really super small and if you want a good spot, it's worth going an hour early, but it's also so small that you can basically just walk up to the front when someone goes for a drink. No idea how big the theatre is in comparison. Security was fairly lax, didn't search my purse, didn't care that I was carrying a camera.

If it helps, the directions I used were from mapquest and they were very accurate. At least, moreso accurate than the ones they gave me to the Odeon, which I ended up very lost downtown then suddenly was in a very ghetto area in which I was certain I was about to get shot.

If someone was unknowingly walking into a house on fire, it is only human instinct to help that person avoid the entrance at all costs. ...Kind of the same mentality

Cleveland doesn't have shit for "bad" parts of town. There are some decidedly blue collar areas very close to downtown, and like many urban areas, minorities get concentrated close to downtown in the shitty neighborhoods due to poor jobs and housing discrimination; but, if you think you're gonna get shot, you don't know the real world.

You may get held up. Sure. Just not in Cleveland. Agora's not around anything to be concerned about, but if you are the kind of person who gets squeamish around a lot of black folks, then the city may not be for you.

Who's playing?

EDIT: The Germs, The Adolescents, Venom, Sick of It All, The Business, and others are all coming up. That's a helluva lineup for August and September! I wonder what that dude from ER sounds like playing as Darby Crash.

I saw some great bands there: Living Color, Clash of the Titans (Sepultura, Napalm Death, Sick of it All), Testament, Slayer-Motorhead, Janes Addiction, Danzig. There was a triple bill of Voivod, Soundgarden and Faith No More.

I'm sure there were a lot I missed but those shows I remember off the top of my head. Good times!

The Agora is cool (pics) and so's the area -as with any public venue, watch your wallet.
I'd recommend getting there early and using their adjoining parking lot! Oh, and bring some earplugs (I saw a cheap bag at Home Depot, and I've read that the foam plugs are about as good as the more expensive ones)! I went to an Everclear concert that was so loud I couldn't actually hear/understand the lyrics!

The Agora was voted the number one rock club in the country by Billboard Magazine and by Rolling Stone editor Dave Marsh!

Eh... I would disagree with that. If you're going to get held up in Cleveland-proper, that part of the Euclid Corridor is one of the areas that is most likely. Definitely make sure you can get in the parking lot and you're fine. Just not somewhere I would take a walk down Euclid or anything. Though the panhandlers are the biggest issue, there's usually one hovering around the back door. Though honestly, I wouldn't mind living down there for the actual housing... the Section 8 condos in Cleveland are rather lovely.

And the venue is far from comfortable, though I do believe that a few years ago they replaced the busted-ass theater-style seats (complete with springs poking you in the ass and back) with tables and plastic and metal seats, at least in some areas.

Decent place for a concert though. Think I've seen O.A.R. and Seether there.

First off, Cleveland's a friggin' pit. High crime rates all over that friggin' town, but usually the violence against strangers/innocents is low. Not to say non-violent muggings don't occur.

Anyway, Myke, if you don't go to see the Business, you can cram it. Mickey Fitz is in fine form on this tour. Also, check to see if Brain Failure is still opening for them... those guys were friggin' amazing. I saw 'em a couple months ago with Roger Miret & The Disasters and loved it.

Bring a little extra cash for the merch table... quality stuff, including some rare Brain Failure items.

Can't say I know much about Brain Failure, other than that they're from China. I think I'm going to be in Canada when The Business are playing, and I've seen them a half dozen times before. They're always amazing live, and if I had to choose a show to drive to Clevo to see (I live 'round Cincinnati, so it's a 4-hour sojurn to the burning river city), it'd be Adolescents, depending upon (1) who the bad is made up of these days and (2) if they're getting good reviews live.

Mickey's a helluva guy and always plays his heart out. The *ONLY* time I ever missed one of their concerts, Warzone opened up for them. Two-three months later, Raybeez was no longer with us. Fucking hell.

Well i went to the concert and everything was fine. Parked bout a block away from the Agora and had a couple bums come up to me but that was about it. Went and saw Nightmare of You (sucked) Dillinger escape plan (sucked worse) and AFI (awesome). walked about a block at around midnight down euclid avenue and had no problems. i was really surprised at how easy it is to get around in downtown cleveland. Probly will go back soon. I think kamelot is playing soon.

Ha sometimes he does kinda look like a chick. I dont typically listen to AFI's type of music but for some reason i really like them. Im more into metal but i really really didnt like DEP. The agora didnt have any fans or AC and it was 96 there. I sweated my ass off.

There was a rock venue in Cleveland that I used to go to- It was called the Phantasy Theater (I think it was Lakewood but I can't remember). Anyways, this used to be a porno theater and they converted it to a rock venue. I caught D.R.I./Brutal Truth there and it was a great fucking show. Many people told me that they still have cum stains on the seats and the place was still pretty seedy. Needless to say, I never sat in the seats. I was in the Mosh pit the whole time.

I wouldn't say Cleveland is any worse than LA or anything. The crime rate's not the best, but any metro area that large has got the problem.

Hell, at least in Cletown you can walk down the street without hearing

HOLA MI SOMBRERO AY YAY YAY FRIJOLES

The Agora's a nice venue because of its simplicity. It's a classic venue, not like these bands that rent out stadiums so you can't even mosh.

Nice one, Myke. Doom Glaze has been duely added to the douchebag list.

Another pop for Brain Failure... please do check 'em out. They're a ton of fun with some really sharp playing. Just don't try to understand the lyrics. Ken Casey from the Dropkick Murphys did a fine job producing the album.

Apparently Brain Failure is mostly made up of kids whose fathers were in the Chinese political aristocracy. They dropped out of society and started squatting in Beijing and became the founders of a rippin' punk scene there. Pretty impressive, and they're highly approachable and a blast to hang out with.

LA, where I lived for a while.

Just tell me, which "race" am I being "racist" against? It's very rude and presumptious to use such extreme words, god forbid English is spoken in America.

Hell, my own people speak "ebonics" all the time, but I dont. does that make me racist against myself? Maybe I'm some uncle Tom for speaking mainstream American English, right? No.

semantics, douchebag, and you know it - sorry, but "ethnicist" not only isn't a word, but lacks the punch that "racist" does - and race/ethnicity are more or less the same word to all but the few people who study race and ethnicity.

It's shitty because you drug up a bunch of words that have no grammatical meaning when put together - hey hey hey, look at my beans and sombreros? What the Fuck is that supposed to mean? Now, if you just tryed to avoid hyperbole, and said "well, it's nice to stay away from a city where people don't speak spanish," I'd think you're a cunt still, but far less of a racist. It's your penchant for the melodramatic approach to making your point that makes you a major league asshole.

You're just being difficult. You have a *GREAT* deal to learn if you genuinely don't see what's racist about what you said. Them's the perks of an upper middle-class upbringing - total obliviousness.
