Chesapeake Man Buys 32 Tickets For The Same Drawing – And They All Win!

July 28, 2006

Sandy Wyatt of Chesapeake had a good day on Thursday, July 27, 2006 – a VERY good day. First, he won $1,200 in the Virginia Lottery’s Pick 4 day drawing. So he decided to follow that up by buying 32 tickets for that night’s drawing, all with the same four numbers 7-5-3-8.

“I just had a feeling,” he later told Virginia Lottery officials.

That night, the numbers 7-5-3-8 just happened to be the winning numbers. Of his 32 tickets, 30 won the game’s top prize of $5,000, because he wagered “exact order” for them. The other two tickets each won $2,600 because he wagered “50/50,” which means the tickets would have won if the numbers were drawn in any order. His total for the night drawing came to $155,200 – and that is not even including the $1,200 he won in the day drawing!

“I looked at the winning numbers and I almost fainted,” Mr. Wyatt said. “My knees got weak.”

Mr. Wyatt, who works in road paving, bought the tickets at Great Bridge Texaco, located at 925 Great Bridge Blvd. in Chesapeake. He hopes to use his winnings to start his own business.

Pick 4 drawings are held twice a day, six days a week, Monday through Saturday at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The odds of winning the $5,000 top prize by matching the numbers in exact order are 1 in 10,000.

All profits from the Virginia Lottery go to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In fiscal year 2005 the Lottery turned over more than $423 million for Virginia’s public schools, representing about 10 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia.

I do from time to time but the most I ever won was a few dollars. I did win $50 on a scratch off ticket once.

My uncle on my mother's side won $250,000 last year in Mega Millions. http://valottery.com....asp?artid=1386

Good for him. Lucky bastard. Funny how you just "feel" it sometimes.

Yes, he's lucky and I'm jealous, but the number 32 is a bit misleading, seeing as how he just bought 32 of the same ticket. Now, if he had bought 32 different numbers and somehow won something on all of those, or even more than one, that would be impressive.

There was a guy in a surrounding county here last week that won $250k on a scratch off ticket. He turned around the next day and won another $100k on another ticket. The local news ran the story last night. What a lucky bastard.

Moneys one thing, but I definately say this is the luckiest man. The side of a semi crushed his car while he was still in it.

Yep, it is. Think about it, most lotteries have a 50% payback (meaning, for every $2 people gamble, $1 goes into the prize pool). Most casino games have at least a 90% payback, even the garbage games (I think craps is close to 90%, and it isn't a good payback. Blackjack has a 98% if played correctly).

Now, playing a buck or 2 here and there is 1 thing. But, if your going hungry so you can afford $50 in lottery tickets, because one of these weeks will be the week (this does happen in poorer areas), then it is a tax on the stupid.

For two weeks (several years ago), I was playing the Numbers Game. Same number each time, exact order. It was either a Wednesday or Thursday night, I forgot to buy my ticket. The numbers came out in the exact order. I was so bummed, I never played again.

I live in Chesapeake, but I hadn't heard of this. Then again, I don't watch the news all that often. As for it being Cheapskate. At least its not like Virginia Beach oweing money on everything and getting caught using unlicensed copies of MS programs lol.

Though, my and my friends call the place Chump-apeake

When I was in High School a friend got a 100% on a D.A.R.E. test and they gave him a D.A.R.E. duffel bag. Two years later, a drug dealer that was a friend of ours at the time asked to borrow something to transport 2kg of cocaine in and he handed over his D.A.R.E. bag. He brought it back to him with an oz of weed in it as a thank you.
