Heard back from Gamersgate about registering games purchased from them on Steam:
"Note that it is quite common that downloadable versions of games from most providers sometimes do not work with the original retail copies, or copies from other download providers (Steam in this case)...
It says in the description on Gamersgate: "Won't work with any Borderlands DLC!!!"
My guess is because they add SecuROM to their downloads of games that don't otherwise have it.
I contacted them Friday about torchlight and am still waiting to hear back. The first reply I got said Torchlight isn't supported for steam activation and gave me a link to a list of games https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601
The list they linked me to of course...
I said earlier in the thread that I tried using the GamersGate CDkey on steam for torchlight (also on the approved list) and it doesn't work. You need a boxed copy for the keys to work I'm guessing.
I'm on a Mac and really like the "Steam Play" feature. If you buy either the Windows or the OSX version you get both. It makes it so I don't have to reboot whichever OS i may be using at the time. It isn't a huge deal but it is really nice touch and something I try look for.
That's what i wasn't sure of. I checked the FAQ and it just says "retail CD keys". Retail is just the sale of goods to a consumer. It would be nice if they updated it to say "physical" or "boxed" retail keys or stated no other downloaded service keys would work....
The problem is some other...
That's the case. The key gamer's gate gives you doesn't even match the format steam uses. I've emailed steam and gamersgate to see if either can help me but i'm not too optimistic. Hopefully if anyone else wants to try they'll at least be able to find this thread now so they know it doesn't work.
I'm interested in getting Torchlight for $5. Does Gamersgate give me a CD key i could register on steam? I'd like to be able to play on mac as well and it supports windows/mac crossover on steam.
The pack ins (marvel and foza) are going to be everywhere for 349 in a week or two so they shouldn't be counted as anything extra.
A wireless controller is going to cost 30.99 from buy.com after google check out. A play and charge kit will cost 6.99. So if you were talk walk into any retail...
