    No, Wii can be 16:9. There's an option to use it in the Wii settings after all. Not all games support it though.

    It might just be your TV. Gamespot did a comparison a while ago and I didn't see horizontal lines on the screens.

    I've had no luck with these either. They're ridiculously rare and/or expensive. Which is why I'm waiting for the Wii to get component cables (They use different ones I hear) :bouncy:
