If that is the only thing running on your comp, I'm not sure you can do anything to reduce it. If you have stuff downloading, turn it off and you will see a huge jump. I don't think a 50 ping is bad though.- At least for pc gaming it isn't

You might also look into a DS game called pic pic (I think it's an EU region game - not sure if it came out here). It has 3 different kinds of puzzles that use numbers and thinking in order to create pictures. Maybe also picross ds. That's a nice relaxing brain game that makes you think, but...

Project Powder is a great ssx clone. Also, Albatross 18 is a good hot shots golf clone. They both have micro transactions, but you don't need the gear to play.
