Fable developer apologizes for broken promises!

You forgot to add the part where he stops mid-interview and eats some caviar off of a model's tits. Afterwards he asks "What were we talking about? Fable? oh yeah. Well, I tried my best , but as you can see I have my hands full." He then speeds off in his Porche while while lighting a cigar with the money he made off of Fable.

At least he made a public apology - sincere or not. Most developers just tell their fans to piss off if they don't like the game.

*cough*Eidos*cough*

You have a point there. ANyways, I was half-joking. I really enjoy the game.

It's one thing for some secondary features to be missing but another for the central theme of the game to have almost no bearing on the actual gameplay. It's almost as if they realized they were in effect delivering half a dozen games for the price of one and nipped that problem in the bud.

It just shows do not believe the hype, if you like the company or have heard good things, possibly rented the game, then buy it. If not do what I do and keep buying the game cheap from people who hate it and sell it to people who have no clue for $20 more.

Indeed. I'm not even that interested in Fable, but this is nice to see.
He's just building trust so that you fall for it again and buy the sequel
Ha. Touche.

The game is really good so I think he delivered a great product.....You can't have EVERYTHING. Next time he just won't talk about his ideas for the games before they are actually finished. To all the whiners:..Quit whining and have fun with what a great game it ended up being. Let's see you do better.......
Whats on tap for the live content for this game? Maybe some of the complaints will be answered with the live content.
I didn't see anything on the box that said XBL. The only thing this game has on XBL is that it lets other know you are playing Fable, wow  .

It's would have been cool if it was like Animal Crossing and other peoples characters in Fable could visit your game and wreak havoc, or do some good.

I've never been able to understand the hype that surrounds Molyneux. The last game of his I really got into was an Amiga platformer called Flood. Populous was innovative but I just never got all that interested in the genre.

My finding is that Fable is a merely good RPG that has some annoyingly small movement areas and lacks most of the things that were the basis of all the anticipation. If it had been released without the years of hype it would owe most of its sales to the thin RPG offerings for Xbox owners.

New content is not out of the question since downloads are done outside of the game. They could offer a download disc that signs into live and gets any updates available, than it returns you to the dash board.

"I have come to realise that I should not talk about features too early so I am considering not talking about games as early as I do. This will mean that the Lionhead games will not be known about as early as they are, but I think this is the more industry standard."

Sad, but a good idea

Maybe if he apologized BEFORE the game hit the shelf and sold hundreds of thousands of copies...

This apology means jack shit to me.
All I can say is that Fable is the best game we could possibly make...

All I can say is I'm sorry if Fable is the best game you could make. The competion is alot better. How lame. Apology is worthless.
Oh get off your high horse. Fable is awesome. The competition pales in comparison.

And "A lot" is two words.

Awesome? prehaps a bit of a subjective term as for the most part everyone I've asked about it called it a dissapointment. Obviously not everone is looking at it as a "killer app."

Also the fact that someone had to say "sorry our game kinda sucked" ruins even the illusion a little.

There are few games released that truly live up to the hype and NO game has ever been absolutely perfect. Even Zelda: Ocarina of Time was flawed and many consider that to be the pinnacle of gaming (dungeons were cut, some minor storylines left hanging due to the need to get the game out the door, etc). But you never see Nintendo's reps apologizing for this... I think he should be applauded for admitting his mistakes, mostly for the hype machine. If the game had not been touted as being the RPG to end all RPGs it would have been recieved much better by the public in general... too high expectations lead to devastating disappointments.

Final Fantasy X better than Fable !
WTF? R u kidding, the rest are about up to par, but FFX! The PS2 FF? WOW
Also KH is NOT better than Fable

A lot of RPGs are better then Fable IMO. I cant wait for Fable 2 though. I think they can take what they learned from Fable and truely make one of the best RPGs ever.

Most people compare KOTOR with FABLE, because KOTOR came out first and did everything BETTER than FABLE. $20 for KOTOR or $50 for FABLE?

I thought Fable was fun, but it certainly didn't live up to the hype. I think Molyneux apologizing for not living up to expectations shows some respect for gamers at least.

So basically he has a half arsed apology, and then says we can forget about ever hearing anything on Lionhead games from now on since we all obviosly can't handle news on them, really a FU to the people that bashed him and his broken promises. And the tree thing, really, who even noticed that was missing/ cared to remember it in the first place, no one's moaning about the loss of sprouts from what I'm hearing. If anything, that letter makes him seem like more of a jerk than I ever thought he was in the first place.

The game is better than alot of the other crap out there. People just expect too much sometimes and it's sad that he even has to apologize in the first place. Everyone is a critic and expects everything to be perfect all of the time. Just be glad that games of this scale are being made period and quit all your whiny ass whining. What I get from what he is sayiing is that "Sorry you guys expect too much, but we made a great game anyways"

I agree. The same thing goes for that Itagaki guy who works for Tecmo/Team Ninja. They both try to give off a "I'm a legendary game designer" aura, but the games end up being underwhelming after all the hype.

I don't know. I'm on the third go-through with Fable, and the only other game I've ever done that with is Pirates. Most games leave little interest for me to play through a second time, let alone a third. I think that speaks volumes as to how good the game is.

As for not living up to the hype, I never follow that or ANY game's hype, because I'm almost always let down. Maybe that's why it was enjoyable to me. Besides, I've found that reading everything about a game will ultimately spoil every bit of storyline that occurs in a game, anyway, and who wants that?

i usually hate rpg games since i have always been more of a just go straight at them and kill them type of game person, but i am enjoying fable a lot and since i didn't have a xbox i didn't pay attention to the hype of it, so it didn't bother me at all. that really sucks for people who expected so much more out of it though.
He should apologize for the lenght of the game. Thats what made me really mad. No RPG should be 15 hours long.
15 hrs? Took me seven.

I really think you asking for trouble when you let your new game be featured in a video game magazine. I read the fable feature in GI and they made it sound like it was going to be a 60 hour game that had no boundaries. The magazines like to exaggerate about the games they feature. "This games is so cool and we are the best magazine because we got the exclusive rights to preview it" is pretty much what they are telling their customers. GI in my opinion is the worst with this, I just hope they didn't do the same thing with the Jade Empire feature they wrote

I prefer Japanese RPG's and I bought Fable because I wanted to try something different and I needed an Xbox RPG. To be honest I am impressed with the majority of the game. I got my Xbox last year and really didn't start buying a whole lot for it other than Halo. I started picking up more Xbox purchases after the December CC sale last year. I honestly hadn't read much about Fable at all until last month so the hype really didn't affect me like it may have some others.

I think it is a fine line to walk in regards to pleasing everyone. In the N64 days, Rare took their sweet time getting Perfect Dark out. They took FOREVER, much to the disdain of some fans, but it payed off with most every feature making the cut. Working Designs has NEVER met a release date they couldn't push back, but the time is almost always worth it. I think Molyneux wanted to put more in and probably should have delayed it until Xbox 2. To be honest the game could have used more polish in regards to the missing features and the character models and some effects. At times the Xbox looked like it was REALLY straining. Of course, that would have pissed off people too. I still would prefer a developer take the time to make it right though (GT4 missing online features to make a release date before Christmas being a good example). I would have waited until Xbox 2 for a fully realized Fable just like I will for the rumored release of Perfect Dark Zero for Xbox 2.

Well there are rumors going around now that PM is going to be releasing Fable 1.5 which would include a lot of things cut out from Fable. This would be really cool as long as it was free for everybody that bought the first Fable.

Well, they could do a mail in rebate, which would be enough to cover the cost of Fable 1.5 minus the trade in value of Fable.

This is exactly what I got from it. The underlying tone seems to be very begrudging...

Ok. I need to vent a little bit because I just finished Fable (didn't get it until a while after release). I honestly did enjoy the game. It certainly had many innovative ideas, but it also had many ideas that had already been done before. The gameplay was excellent. However, what really broke it for me was the story. This is an RPG game for crying out loud, the story has to be superior to a run-of-the-mill action/adventure game. I mean, this game was in development for nearly 5 years, and obviously not too much of that time was spent perfecting the storyline. I think the overall storyline, though very unoriginal, was good. However, the exectuation of the story was horrible. Terrible. Disgusting. I mean, If there is going to be an evil person trying to rule the world, you had better make me hate him. In fable, you only meet him or even hear about him a couple hours before the end of the game. His character is not fleshed out. You see like 2 evil deeds he has done before you take care of him. And if you want me to enjoy the game, you had better make the characters seem real, alive, and responsive. Honestly, they didn't flesh out hardly any of the story, and there are so many loose ends it is not even funny. The story is the backbone of the RPG and Fable's is much too weak. Even how the story is told gets me. The dialouge was pretty dull at the most critical moments of the game (read: the very end!)... what is up with that. I don't care so much that so many promised features were left out, but I do care that the storytelling and characterization was so crappy.

Yeah... KOTOR is MUCH better than Fable. If you ignored the storylines and characterization, Fable would win, but as above, story is the backbone of an RPG. If it sucks, the whole thing is going to wobble and fall over in a crash.
