5 for $25 USED @ Blockbuster (local Kansas sale?)

meager

CAGiversary!
5 for $25 all used games and DVDs at Blockbuster stores.

I went to three Blockbusters in the area and was surprised how much the selection differed. I had to choose which ones not to buy at the first location, then struggled to find five worth buying at the others.

Luckily, there were used movies I wanted.. and actually got a better deal by including those. Used movies were as much as 12.99, while most of the games were 6.99.

I called a couple BB around my town (Irvine, CA) and they have no idea about this deal. Is this some local-specific thing? Thanks.

The ones in Wichita, Kansas all seem to have it.

It must be new, because I was there just there saturday renting a game, and when I returned it tonight they had big red signs in their windows announcing the sale.

blockbuster has gone into many things besides movies and games. I tried there total acess online and whenever I swapped out to get a free rental they're always asking me to buy extra candy and soda...

OK, so what are the rules for this? 5 for 25 on games 10.00 and under? Because I know damn well I can't just walk out with 5 PS3 games for 25.00 cause if I can I'm walking out with all of them.

I'm sure it's something like that. It won't be all used games, but I'm interested to see what the boundary is, though it's probably $10.

If this deal even exists, that is.

There didn't seem to be any rules... but I didn't see any games out that were more than $10. The Blockbuster around here don't have used NextGen games for sale. They tell me they won't sell those games until they're at least a year old.

All the games I picked up were priced 6.99, and I did throw in a Reno 911 DVD, which was marked 12.99.

i have a feeling your stores are franchised, as i have never heard of this sale before.

Local only, huh? Wow, we usually don't get special sales here. I guess I'll edit the topic title.

So, just to rub it in, here's my score:

WOW! Very nice score.

this is a franchise store check out the bottom of the reciept. if this was corprate it would say about restocking fees and such . i think i might be on to something i will ask my wife in the morn and also check my local blockbuster which is a 5 min walk from my house

Look at the top of the receipt, it clearly states "BLOCKBUSTER FRANCHISEE"

That is awesome score though, congrats! Good for Kansas CAGs!

Sigh, unfortunately we are forced to ask you about candy and soda for various reasons - deals, mystery shop, etc. We don't like doing it anymore than you like hearing. Feel free to just say no and smile - it helps

Well crap, I'm here in Wichita myself and I missed a copy of Disegea 2 for that cheap. Any other stores have good stuff you know of meager? Help a Wichita brother out. :D

I swung by a couple other Blockbusters this morning, and found bunches of games I never heard of, but looked interesting. Even found a copy of God of War 2.

This deal should be active at all Wichita branches, so you don't need to drive out to Maize road.

If someone could tell me how to move this thread to a more suitable catagory, I'd sure appreciate it.
Good deals.

But this should be in the Midwest Regional forum, as it's strictly a local franchisee deal.
No, I think it's good to have it in this section. I mean, Fry's deals are posted here all the time and they're only certain local stores as well. We have none anywhere near here.

But to the original post, thanks! It's still a bit of a drive for me but it's good news to hear. I'll have to check our Blockbusters.:)
May I ask of these games were complete or disc only?
Some had manuals. All the ones I picked up had cases (albiet Blockbuster brand cases) with the original cover sheets inserted. There were some in the store that were only in the tiny clear disc holders.

But being Blockbuster, the thing to worry most about is the disc damage. I'll have to test these quickly else the selection for an exchange will be depleted.

Well, it's legit throughout all of Wichita.

At Kellogg and Rock I scored:
Drakengard 2
Destroy All Humans 2
Metal Slug Anthology (PS2)
Lumines Plus (PS2)
Megaman X8
(I left a copy of Metal Gear Substance (Xbox) and Susistence)

At Rock and 21st I scored:
Baten Kaitos Origins
Amplitude
Metal Gear Solid Subsistence
Contra: Shattered Soldier
Darkwatch (PS2)
(I left a disc-only copy of Zone of the Enders)

Both look like they had been picked clean with some exceptions, and I bought those exceptions. Good luck at other stores.

(edit: All of my games have cases, and if you think one of your games is missing a booklet, check behind the cover art. I'm finding them in pristine, never-been-touched shape. But half the games have slight play wear.)

I lucked out at Central and Maize too.

God of War
Shadow of the Colossus
Way of the Samurai 2
Gundam Federation vs Zeon
Bujingai

They had several other top tier games still sitting there. Almost all of the good games lacked a manual though, so keep that in mind. They packaged the best games in little plastic jewel cases, so if that's not good enough for you you might want to stay away. Central ave over by the big ditch was a total waste of time.

I'll have to run up to my blockbuster, there's about 4 of them within 5 or 10 miles. I live in Kansas City so I'm at least in the same state.
how can i tell if my block buster is franchise or corporate? i m probably better off just riding my bike up there and checking.
You should try calling around to see if the promotion is running first. It will save you a trip - it's hot outside.

As a Blockbuster employee, I can confirm that this sale is not going nationwide.

HOWEVER, be on the lookout for something new next month. I just got a repricing report today that told me a bunch of DVDs will be getting marked down to $3.99 for purchase. I imagine it would tie into some sort of sale.

Gamerguy, I'm excited to hear what titles fall under this new pricing plan! Perhaps, if you cannot explicitly state which titles were marked as such, you could hint at whether or not these are new releases or major titles?

I work at Blockbuster as well, and we just priced some movies down to $3.99, nothing spectacular though that I noticed. As far as a deal, at our store we just chucked them into bins.

The movies I can remember off hand are:
Half Light (some Demi Moore flick)
North Country (Charlize Theron)
Where The Truth Lies
8mm 2

That's all I can think of at the moment, however, there wasn't anything new, and nothing that looked really good.

I really with our store had the 5 for $25 deal. That definitely is a franchise store thing.

Update. If anyone is interested in traveling to Newton, they have a pretty good selection. Some of the things I saw: Futurama (PS2, hard to find and sells for good $ online), SF Alpha Anthology (PS2), Xenosaga II, Star Fox Assault, Metal Saga, and a bunch of Xbox games I didn't bother with.
