Richmond VA CAGers

*waves*

apparently the boy scouts here are selling a discount card that one of the deals on it is $5 off any used game $14.99 and up at GameStop and it can be combined with 10% off discount, the card is only $10 too
Holy smokes. How many times can it be used/how long is it good for?
from my understanding (I don't have the card yet myself but a friend bought one) the card doesn't expire until the end of October 2008 and not aware of if you can only use that deal once a day or what

I looked at the card and don't remember any restrictions

oh and according to the assisstant manager of the store, the boy scouts will be at this location on saturday selling the cards

Hey, thanks for the tip!

Sweet, thanks a lot, buckythekat. I picked up my discount card today. Got DDR Mario Mix while I was there (sorry if anyone wanted that, lol!). That GameStop is probably the best one I've ever been to. Didn't even know it was there.

has anyone been able to use the 20% off kmart coupon around here? if so, what 360's do they have in stock, the holiday bundle?

Yeah im here and second this question...any one?

The Best Buy in Short Pump has a huge dump bin of shipper's display titles, more than I've seen at other locations. I saw The Warriors Xbox $9.99, X Men Legends II Xbox $9.99, many other good titles across all consoles. Also a bunch more back on the normal racks, mostly Xbox.

the gamestop on commonwealth centre parkway is pretty good actually, especially since the new store manager took over that one. mitch is a good guy. if there is a tru deal you are looking for, pm me and i can see if the one on midlothian has it (seeing as i work there almost everyday).

Yeah, the manager actually was running the register when I went. He definitely seemed like a nice guy. I could tell that he probably got a lot of sales because he knew the right questions to ask and how to ask them, haha. That GameStop is by far the best one that I know of.

Mitch is The Man! I used to run into him when he worked at the store on Midlothian. Nicest guy in the used game business.

New Five Below in the new Short Pump station strip mall, across from Best Buy shopping center. PC game selection was mediocre when I stopped by, but the place has potential.

right here

at cnu for school, but live in midlothian

*waiting for good selection of used wii games at gamestop b2g1 sale

if not, we should do a location thread of what popular used games are at which gamestop(and when they were there for proper time allotment)

richard, you may have run into me too then. i wasn't at the gs on midlo when he was there, but apparently i came in a little after and was there with ryan.

*Cheap PC barebones towers for sale*

Hello Richmond area CAGs, there is a store on Midlothian Turnpike called "Foremost Sales," located directly across the old Cloverleaf Mall, that currently has a huge pallet of In Win towers. Out the door price with daily in-store discount should be around $30. 350Watt power supply, which isn't great, but Newegg reviews are pretty good. I'm going to pick one up this evening and check it out.

Will be in Richmond next weekend to see the girlfriend, any note worthy deals I should check out?

Hello Richmond VA Cag's!

I'm visiting some friends over spring break in Richmond and I was wondering if you guys knew any good arcades or game stores I should visit while I'm down. Thanks!

I've been in Richmond over 10 years now and we just can't seem to keep any non-conglomerate kind of video game store. We used to have Funco Land, Babbabges, Software Etc, and some smaller outfits but they were all eaten up by the Gamestop merger.

However, there is a new chain called "Play N Trade" that's located near the Shortpump Mall. I only went in once and didn't see much, but they do carry old stuff so that's a plus over Gamestop.

Other than that, I don't know of any arcades or video game stores in the area, aside from the arcades at the amusement parks (Busch Gardens and King's Dominion). The only decent arcade action I've seen is in laundromats and the MAME cabinet I have in my living room :)

My only other advice is to check out Pawn Shops and Thrift Stores. FanTastic Thrift located on the corner of Main and Meadow downtown often has some good stuff.

We do have some great Gamestops here, with my favorite being the one at Commonwealth Centre in Midlothian. Beware the store on Midlothian turnpike and Courthouse road -- they adhere the price tag directly to the paper insert inside the plastic case. After it sits there for a few days, it stains the paper on the spine of the game... I've passed up many a good/rare game at that store because they're such idiots.

Hmm, I had no idea there was an RVA thread.

You pretty much summed it all up, Azel. All the good stores got swallowed up by GS. My parents actually own a store right next to the GS in Commonwealth Center, so I make it over there once in awhile.

I'm about 6 blocks away from FanTastic, I've never found anything rare there but they do get some nice stuff occasionally.

I'm an hour north, up in Fredericksburg, but I grew up in the Richmond area and I like to go down there as often as I can. My parents are still there, so whenever I visit them I try to go around town.

I'll have to check out that Play N Trade. I've heard of them from reading CAG, but I didn't realize there were any locations in Virginia.

I'm in Va. Beach, too, blackjaw. It makes me cry to see all the items listed in the various clearance threads knowing that they'll never shows up in our area.

As for being on topic...I once dated a girl from Midlothian. Does that count?

yeah, i can't stand the midlo store now. back when i was working there with the old manager, it was always clean, we never checked out brand new games (only used), gutted ONE copy of new games, not 3-4, and most of our staff actually knew quite a bit about games. all 3 of our managers (including me) left at the same time and it looks like the store pretty much went to hell. the commonwealth center gamestop was fairly good last time i was in there while mitch was manager, i hope he still is though i don't make it out that way as often as i used to.

The GS at Commonwealth is definitely the best one that I've been to. The ones in Colonial Heights are just OK. The employees at the new one in Chester are pretty bad (most of them, anyway).

Does anyone know if the Boy Scouts are going to be selling another one of those discount cards (with $5 off any used game $14.99 or above) this October?

Just wanted to give my fellow Richmonders a heads-up. The Target on Forest Hill has the MGS4 PS3 Bundle in-stock ATM. I was checking for any new clearance drops and saw 2 in their display case. Is it just me or are they a bit early? No individual copies of MGS4 were on the floor. No new drops there to note either. Good luck!
I saw Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil for Xbox at Five Below.
Ah! That's better the boatload of BK Games I see in every store...
Forest Hill 5 below?

No, the MIdlothian Tnpk store, but they all usually get the same assortments. Compatible with the 360 BTW.

What's Five Below? I live in Richmond and I've never heard of it.

RoE was a decent expansion, though. Totally worth $5 if you enjoyed the original Doom 3.

Five Below is a chain, similar to the Dollar Store, except...you guessed it, prices are $5 and below. They carry games from time to time and many other items, alot of it clearanced from other stores.
There's one near the TRU off of Midlo Tnpk, the one Richard mentioned.
There's also another one near the Target and GS on Forest Hill Ave. I'm sure their are others but those are the only ones I've been to...:)
Also one at the new SHort Pump strip mall across from Home Depot on Broad, and I saw a sign for one opening up off Laburnum somehwere.
My lord, are they ever gonna stop tearing up all the land out there? It's just one useless set of shops after another, it makes me fucking ill just thinking about it.

Just moved here from the Kansas City area and you can see some of my handywork in the Kansas CAG thread

Hope to be contributing shortly (tho I won't be traveling nearly as much as I did for that job) :)
