I'm trying to build a PC and I have a tiny problem, I don't know anything about them.

I know how to read a list of things I need I just don't know which types of those things to get. Like which mother board and how much ram and so on. I have a budget of close to a 1000 probably no more than 1200 if I had to go over 1000. I want to play games like orange box and all the new releases at the best graphics I can. Any site suggestions on educating this noob?:D

Here they build an awesome gaming rig for $1500

Here they build a super effective machine for under $1000

Tomshardware.com is just about the best site you can go to for building a computer. HardOCP has some great benchmarks and anandtech is the place to go for CPU cooler info, but toms is still the best.

I'm actually in the same situation, but don't need high specs. Can anyone tell me, or refer a site, that could help me match compatible components? I'll be attempting this with the help of a laptop, so sites with DIY pictures would greatly appreciated.

I'd like to re-use as much of my old PC as possible, as I'll be doing all of my new gaming on consoles.
