Ok..just for those that bother to read the CAG news forums.

Due to recent events of some SQL problems. I will be conducting a serious overhall of the search database and how it works here at CAG. One of the things CheapyD and I also talked about where threads greater than 500 replies. These threads eventually will be automatically locked (retired).

It's much more important that over the next 6 weeks during the Xmas rush with all the great deals and offers that this site runs very smooth. I anticipate my work to take about a week and once completed in it's entirety I will make more posts about the actual changes and how it will affect members.

I'm just curious how this will be different then it already is? The OTTers were pretty good about starting new threads at 500 posts, and besides the occasional huge deal thread that goes over 500, those are the only ones that ever reach 500.

I think we aren't suppose to make OTTs anymore :cry:

but I'm sure some smaller shorter threads will take their place.
 
Once I have made all my changes OTTs should be back. The main problem is the search index and Off-Topic may be entirely removed from being indexed (maybe).

Not a bad idea, as i really only search for trading and deals. Only times I've ever searched Off-Topic was to find duplicate threads.

The thing is that it's not just one thread at a time. There's always the official OTT, then WSB's, then 6669's, and if minx has anything going on, or if there's an update in Mr. Anderson's love life, or if some guy wants to know if I'd rather play Halo 2 or have sex...

Hardly any of these topics are important at all, and while you could argue that "that's why we have an OT forum!", why have it on the main page? I'm usually just refreshing the main page instead of browsing the actual forums, and I think that only the important threads should be there.

Almost all of those threads are gone now. WSB's thread is closed and may not be recreated. 6669 is apparently taking a leave of absence from the site. The last post in Anderson's thread was over two weeks ago. The Halo threads are almost all in the Xbox forum. As for minx...well, she's an exception, especially since she's posting much less frequently than she has in the past. And yes...those threads ARE important to a large part of CAG, sometimes more important than the deals themselves.

So...I really don't see the big deal with the one OTT thread. :wink:
 
I think evilmax17 means keeping all Off-topic and lifestyle threads off the front page, not just the OTT. But maybe in the future we could have two most recent post sections on the front page. One devoted to game deals and news and another devoted to everything else.

evilmax17, I understand what you are saying but most of the OTTs are not that frequently on the frontpage. Those go to Halo this and before GTA. minx doesn't post that much, Anderson hasn't posted for some time, and the only real thing going on is the OTT which apparently has ceased. When I want deals, I head to the deals section and to the post your deals forum in particular. When I want OTT madness, I go to the OTT forum. It's as simple as that. I just don't solely rely on the front page.

I really don't see why some people are so crazy over these OTT threads. If you want to talk that badly go find a chat room or visit some other message board. Maybe if you started them over at gametour is would bring more people to the forums and help defender out.

I say stick with the 500 for the autolock. My church wouldn't approve of 666 and thats where I mostly log in from.

lol. I missed the Cloudspekk thread too. It was a part of CAG history, the first full blown scammer thread. Would've been good for a sticky for all the newbie traders/wannabe scammers.
