[DEAD] Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition - $59.90 at gogamer.com

hey, when did they start offering "value shipping".. gahh, I couldn't pass this up for $62 shipped.. my wife is going to murder me.. nice knowing you all :)

Seppuku, I thank you my cheap ass friend; later today I was going to go to EBGames and buy my copy. I had missed out on the buy.com deal and had decided to simply get it at full price. You just saved me twenty dollars. I could kiss you. :D Thank you so much!

What's the diff between the regular and collectors version? Any advantage to buying this over the silver version out on steam?

I wouldn't trust gogamer, packages from them usually arrived damaged, and the last time I ordered they sent me the wrong item and refused to refund me.

I shop at gogamer.com more than anywhere else and I've never had any sort of problems with them or damaged shipments. They're always packed in strong boxes. I did receive the wrong item once out of many orders and they promply rectified the problem. They have even stocked games after I emailed and requested them.. Try that elsewhere :)

"This is the full english import edition of Half-Life 2. Limit one per customer."

What does that mean? they imported it from England?

gogamer gets lots of import games because they're cheaper.. they usually offer the US version too.. the majority of the time they're exactly the same. Often the import version is in a small DVD style case instead of a box.. I acutally like them better that way..

it's also nice when you can get an import of a game like Sacred where they edited to make it more "clean" for the US release.

That said, I see nothing about this being an import version.. where are you seeing it?

click on the half life 2 meltdown thing on their frontpage that has the $34 price, look down a little and you'll see
"You may also enjoy these other items
Checked items will be included when you click 'Add to Shopping Cart' above."
it should be right underneath that checkbox and before the picture with the text that says "the best game ever made"

my friend pointed out something that I wish i had thought of myself before ordering. to him, that extra 15 dollars we would pay for the game over steam is worth it over the lifetime of the game just not to have to put a cd in your drive to play.

I got mine today..woohoo!

By midnight there will be a new gogamer madness sale, so if you want this, you'd better order it today..

Actually, for the same price as the Col. Set from go-gamer, you could get the "silver" steam package, which includes all the games from the collector set, plus all of Valve's back catalog. You do lose out on the t-shirt and art book though, but you gain a couple more games and never have to worry about having the dvd in the drive.

If I didn't just spend over $300 dollars on games for me since the beginning of Oct., I would be more amenable, but I think I will just keep playing Halo2 as well as some of my other deals and wait for HL2 to drop down to $30 before I jump. Espcially since I need to upgrade to play it well :(

Well, I remember reading somewhere that if you do some option with Steam where you back up files to CD-R, you no longer will have to have the DVD in the drive to play.

Honestly, it's worth the extra $10 to have a hard copy of the game on one DVD along with a T-shirt. The only thing you miss out on from the Silver / Gold download versions are Day of Defeat: Source and Opposing Force / Blue Shift : Source, which frankly were not great games to begin with...(except for Day of Defeat, which is awesome, but you can still play it using the originaly Half-Life engine).

All in all, the Go Gamer deal is a pretty good one.

I'm having trouble with gogamer now. They confirmed my order, sent me a confirmation number for stamps.com, and seemingly sent me on my merry way. When I keep checking back on the tracking number, though, it shows no activity after the day I made the order, 11/24.

I finally emailed them today and I'm awaiting a response. After the trouble I had with Vivendi choking off World of Warcraft release, I'm going to be majorly pissed if I can't get Half-Life too.

it happened to me too. its like that i guess. i got my shipment. it shows up after like about 6 days then they will show up the shipment of the stamps.com. the info i should say. dont worry. once they showed up for me the next day i got the package.

DO NOT BUY RETAIL HL2...buy from steam.

If you buy retail then you must insert the CD every time you play HL2 or even CSS.

There is a huge thread of complainers over at steapowered.com forums. I bought mine from steam and have it on 3 computers...I can just play from any of these computers with my steam account. I could even venture to a friends house and install and play...WITHOUT THE CD.

That's good to hear trunks, I'm currently in skexis's stituation... can't wait :)

I have the CE.. I don't find the DVD problematic, I just leave it in the drive. My Steam experience has been 100% problem free. I'd be pissed if I had to lug 5 cd's around or however many CD's HL2 comes on, though. Great game, I'm playing through it a second time now.
