Some of you remember me as being a very bitter Sony anti politician. I was bitter about the cost, bitter about the releases, over all just bitter.

I played Halo 3 and GOW and other 360 titles pretty religiously. I sold my 60gb launch PS3 to my brother in law and never looked back. But then the 40gb came out, HDDVD took a dive and I managed to play some PS3 titles. Over all, I decided to take the plunge. Not just the PS3 plunge, but the HDTV + PS3 + Blu-rays + games plunge: My games- Resistance, Warhawk, Motorstorm. Heavenly Sword on the way. I'll get Lair after the update and I plan on getting Ratchet & Clank and Folklore soon.

You can't just throw a PS3 at a cheap HDTV from Kmart or something.
Not to bash on people with Vizio's or anything, but I just like to spend to get the extra security of a well established brand like Toshiba.

setupworkstationtz6.jpg

There she sits, so pretty on my desk. And I didn't desecrate her by putting her where the 360 used to be. If you saw my old set up, my 360 sat on the shelf below there. Plenty of air room for her to breathe. Getting a floor fan set up for more cooling.

This picture does NOT do the image quality justice, but it's the best my cheap crappy camera could do. My receiver supports 2PCM lossless 48khz and emulates the 5.1, but Blurays with DTS HD are much better because it draws the DTS base track and does true 5.1 with it.

setupmoviesix0.jpg

Stupid camera to blame, movies: Sunshine, Spiderman 3, Casino Royale, 3:10 to Yuma on Bluray. On DVD: Jaws (Collector's with DTS), Superbad, Boondock Saints, Rocky Collection and 40 Year old Virgin.

setupstandzh9.jpg

My temp set up until I move back to go to college. Toshiba 32AV500U ($679), Yamaha HTR5920 (Speakers mounted on the wall, $160 with 2 year extra warranty), crappy TV stand until I get a better one. PS3 40gb, I used the Kmart 10% off coupon and with the money I saved, bought the 3 year service plan so I have a 4 year warranty on it.

Over all, I'm very happy with Bluray, very happy with Warhawk's online and Resistance's single player campaign, and I'm really surprised with how much I enjoy Motorstorm. And I'm glad to be with a company that doesn't nickel and dime me at every corner. I didn't have to pay $180 for Bluray. I didn't have to pay $50 for a yearly subscription to PSN. I didn't have to buy a charge kit for my controller. I get plenty of HD space and I can upgrade my hard drive without being disowned by my warranty policy. I have wifi out of the box.

To PS3 supporters I argued with before: Sorry I didn't know any better. It was rather foolish of me to stand off against people defending their system.

Congrats, hopefully now you understand how trivial it is to argue about which is the "better system". I have games I enjoy on the 360, and some I enjoy on the PS3. I veere from console to console (haven't touched my Wii in months) but have been spending quite a bit of my time with Oblivion on the PS3.

I can understand why, in the first year, people were anti PS3; it really didn't have much to offer. Now that there are good games out and coming out for it I think it'll start to have merit and take off this year.

Looking at my co-workers, there's 3 only with XBoxes and 5 with only PS3s. I think the Blu-Ray is what has driven the system home.
What's the story behind getting rid of your 360? Why not keep both?
I work 36 hours a week and go to school. Only have enough time for one system and my brother in law wanted a 360 for my sister, so I sold it to him for extra game money.

I sold it to him cheap so it wasn't really like I sold it at all. More like a gift for him and my sister having a baby or something. Couldn't justify selling him my 360 for more than $150 with him having a baby on the way and his eyes were gleaming at Halo for a while.

I gotta say, your college life sound a lot different from what I did. I had to go weeks without eating, just to have enough money to drink. :)

When I lived in dorms, we all use to coagulate around t the two rich-kids who had N64's on our floor. I only and a SNES, but I had two 4-ways, so we had some 4v4 madden, which was pretty popular.

For the next 8 years, I'll be remembering the good times of uni, with ever cheque to student loans I write.

NamelessMC ...

Welcome to the Dark Side.

Your set up is beautiful, even with the Whitewesting house... but looking at your set up It seems to be set up for just you to play... if you have Multiplayer sessions you and one or two friends in house, how does your set up allow you to have a MP session. [I'm in the process of setting up a room for gaming and was looking at your set up as a possible idea.]

Speaking of TV's my Sony HDTV took a tennis ball hit today whilst playing with my dog. Although there was no damage except for a smudge, I am one to worry about long term detrimental harm.. am i being too paranoid?
I work 36 hours a week and go to school. Only have enough time for one system ...
I'm gonna trump ya, I've got a 40+ hours a week job (not including travel), 3 night classes, and two kids (one who's 14 months) ... yet I'd never give up my systems. Wow, I just realized why my wife is in a persistant state of pissiness.

Although you did it for a good reason, gaming money is the only reason worth selling a system for. Thank God you get get to play GTA AND MGS4 in the next 3 months.

I learned how to cook, because groceries are more practical and cost effective than eating out.

I work, have horrible relationships, which means I never have to spend money on a girlfriend.

I'm also 24 and my parents are separated legally, so I qualify for what some would call "a near free trip". I get my tuition and admission paid fully by the government and I get financial aid for each semester which translates to the cost of all my books, 60-75% of my rent and most of my small bills. The only things I have to buy, are my utensils/school supplies and whatever things I deem I need, like an HDTV and PS3. :)

I also have zero credit cards. The only bills I have each month are: Rent which comes from FICA, my cell phone (Which is only $25 thanks to Best Buy accommodations) and World of Warcraft, which cancels next month because I was only playing it to buy time until I have my PS3.

@Thomas: Thanks for the kind words. I always try to set up my TV and gaming furniture to compliment my viewing angles. I have a futon bed, that's what me and my girl would sit down on when we watch movies. Three large pillows and the free carpet. When I move back to SD, I'm going to buy some bean bags and lazy boys and I'm upgrading the futon to a wood frame. I'm going to have more "complimentary" furniture. Most MP sessions are at other friends' houses as my other friend has a 65" DLP, all the systems, over $20,000 worth of DVD's and he usually buys all the new games as they release. It's suffice to say, he one-upped me pretty badly.

@Relentless: It's a good investment. Pride has a lot to do with it I'm sure, but when you watch a Bluray, you REALLY notice the difference.

Yea, I have both and the wowness wears off and you'll go back to playing mostly 360 for anything with an online component (oh you sold yours, yikes- sorry).
The black glossy coat of the ps3 scratches quickly. I mean that literally and figuratively.

My PS3 has brought me more buyers remorse than my Atari Jaguar thus far (I need to put that on my trade list!).

Did you enjoy Sunshine?

I don't mean to thread crap but I guess I just did. Enjoy it in good health.

If anything, it taught me paying $50 for online wasn't worth it, but that's another story and prefer to not get into any argument over it.

I'm quite busy myself (although with a difficult college major) and really don't have all that much time for games, so many times I find myself just sticking to one console (does not mean I hate my others because I love all platforms). I have a few friends who are in the same situation as you and did the same thing (sold their 360 and stuck to a PS3, even after owning both for a bit) due to being busy. PS3 has a pretty good selection of good games regardless, don't have to worry about paying for online, and it's a great investment for all that it does (so if you don't feel like gaming, it can do other things for you).
Just an FYI, but you should try to pick up Folklore asap because it is 15 dollars at Target.
Is this a universal temp price or something!?

BTW, grats on the purchase. I did the same thing in selling my 360 for a PS3, just waiting for the MGS bundle to come out unless I find a new 60GB that doesn't cost $500.
Is this a universal temp price or something!?
Naw, YMMV. The game is still at a suggested price of $60 (SCEA rarely drops prices). Some Target locations sold out before it even got to that price, so it really varies. I paid $50 for my copy and love it.

Are you sure about that? Because last I checked, it's not a good idea to pin your opinions on people when it comes to their taste preference. The only game so far that hasn't appealed to me as much as I thought it would is Warhawk. It's fun, but it's too much of a twitch shooter for me.

But Halo is completely dead to me. I hit officer rank, got bored, the new maps failed to draw me in. I'll still play it when I'm at my friend's house and we do a 3 person on live with guest accounts to play big team battle or team slayer, but really the fact that I can't filter out the games I don't want to play is a huge turn off in that game. Sometimes I want to sign in, ONLY play a few games of team slayer or maybe team duals and then go to work. I sign in, I get.... Team Slayer, Shotty Snipers and Team Rockets. And whenever I veto, it's Team Slayer on Snowbound. It'll take me 45 minutes to an hour to actually get to play one game of each type that I want. Very frustrating for a person as busy as me.

But Resistance? I love the single player campaign and I'm having a blast playing it online. Motorstorm surprised me a lot. This game is fun! And it's a launch title. Call of Duty 4 is super hard, I'm glad I rented it because I probably won't buy it, but online is fun.

There's way more games I plan on playing on PS3 than I plan on playing on 360. The ONLY game I could see myself wanting to play on 360 is Gears of War 2, and that's not even for multi player. I HATE playing Gears of War multiplayer. Host advantage PISSES me off and ranked matches aren't my thing.

What I look forward to playing on PS3:
MGS4, GT5, GTA4, Ratchet & Clank, Killzone 2, Wipeout HD, Uncharted, Bionic Commando, Alone in the Dark, Force Unleashed, Rainbow Vegas 2, God of War on PS3, Heavenly Sword, DMC4, Hot Shots Golf (Some of these games are already out, but I don't have them yet)

Yes I know a few of those titles are not exclusive, but the point is I can play them on PS3. What exclusives does the 360 have? Gears of War 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2. That's it. What reason do I have to go BACK to the 360? Standard Definition DVD's and games I already played through?

Whatever dude, don't thrash on my thread, because honestly you're talking to a guy that played 360 from launch, had every major title and paid for live every month I owned it. Got tired of it. Not only that, but it was like being on death row waiting for my 360 to brick. It was a launch 360 that hadn't bricked yet. It's freakin' March 2008 and I only had until November this year for it to brick.

Congrats on your PS3 purchase. :)
The things it can do out of the box, and the games it will have is why I decided to get a PS3 last year. I paid $600 for it, and I don't regret my purchase at all. Enjoy!

what model PS3 you got... wanna sell it.. I might can use one for my living room.

Retail it's 679. I'm an employee so I got it discounted.

It's really nice but only directly in front of it. Then again, who plays games from an angle lol.
what model PS3 you got... wanna sell it.. I might can use one for my living room.
60gig and heck no I am not selling it, it's my only Blu-Ray player. I was referring to my Jag for my trade list. I was in a bad mood and didn't really mean to thread crap (I strained my achilles heel at Costco, stupid story).

I just thought it was laughable for a self described xbox fanboi to turn tail and flip sides like that and it tweaked me, as I have often thought that those "all or nothing" console owners/and flamers always suffered from a grass is greener-with envy syndrome [intentionally mixed metaphors]. Seeing it proven just kinda PMO (lol, now he's throwing Sony bombs at me) and I lashed out at him.

I meant no real ill will towards him.

As far as my PS3 goes I have played mostly exclusives on it and plan on buying some more. What I was referring to was my anecdotal experience that for any title that is multi-player or multi-platform- my friends, family and I are preferring to pick up for the 360 (unless it's like many of the third-party PS3 titles that dropped super fast like several have at target, then I snap them up quick. Jericho for $12 heck yea, NGS for $14 yep, folklore for $12 you bet) It's been a good bargain machine for things like that and I certainly look forward to the exclusive AAA titles MGS4, GTp&5 but for games like CoD4, R6V 1&2, GTA I am all about the stronger Live community and the longevity for multi-player that it provides.
I only mention it because this seems to be consistent with most gamers in my circle of friends and family, each of us that have strayed on Multi-platform titles have been burned, (orange box, LP, and more recently my brothers R6V2 with the non-functioning MP). Most these things get ironed out.

I am just not an all or nothing/there can be only one "console champion." They tend to PMO and most everyone else, I just couldn't bare the gleefully admitted hypocrisy; and the Loritabs and mead loosened my keyboard. A recipe for disaster.

As I have stated I am not normally a thread crapper, didn't really mean to harsh "your new buyers buzz."

Nice buy nameless welcome to the family. When I bought my ps3 60 gb back in August for $350 I thought about trading it in for a 360, I did for about a month. The with games coming out I was interested in I kept it and well my roomate in the fraternity also bought a ps3, so I play all the games he has.

As for college you have a nice set up and you are lucky to get most of it paid for by the gov.
This is my last semester and last time I checked I spent 82k? in 6 years, average of 13.6k a semester, whereas one semester here averages about 18-20k, and when I started in 2002 it was only 12k.

Sorry to thread crap a little. But enjoy the PS3 and if you ever wanna play Resistance give me a holler or add me as a friend on PS3 at Kube00.
Pick up "No Country for Old Men" on BD. Holy crap.
I didn't get to see it in the theatre, is it better than "There will be blood?"

damn, I got Folklore for 30 about a month ago... from Compusa closing deals, and not everyone's getting the game for 15 and 12... dammit.. I knew I should have waited longer.... but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a copy of the game all of a sudden. oh well.
Just in case no one has said it yet:

Epic fail! No Uncharted.
Yes, Uncharted IS the best game IMO. I was upset ND wasn't making a platformer but liked it better than any other game they made.

Folklore is really awesome. One of the most underrated PS3 games. I wish more bought it near full price to justify more sequels or similar games coming stateside (because in reality, SCEA wasn't even going to bring the game over according to a friend of mine within SCEA, and it took a marketing guy who played the game and tons of convincing to bring it over).

That happened with me and NGS, I had to get another CAG to stake it out for me across the state. You guys should use your local community forums. I think they are a great resource. I turned a glut of other PS3 titles that were price slashed into great trade material. Most never even hit my trade list, it was divide an conquer among the ATL CAGs.

Congrats. I have a similar setup with a 32'' LCD and love the size/quality through HDMI. I definitely agree - you need to pick up Uncharted.

And if you have any money left over, maybe rent a steam cleaner for your carpet ;).

awesome dude! I'm basically in the same boat as you wow. I'm a college student now (GO KU!) and I just now bought an 80gb PS3 (had it since Monday) and have an Elite, but that's getting sold next Friday. I would've liked to kept both as I love the 360, but I have bills to pay and I'm going to grad school in the fall. I figured I'll just have one system and the PS3 looks to be it. My reasons are similar to yours as well and I'm seeing more people make the jump, well for those that can't really have both systems right now. Got it hooked up to a 40" samsung LCD though =) woohoo!! Congrats man, makes me feel great about my jump. though I'm in need of games, just not sure what to get!

well that extra 4 dollars a month can go to an extra meal, or a box of condoms for all the young ladies you're bangin' or not bangin' who knows..

4 dollars a month comes from not having to pay for live anymore.
Get Call of Duty 4 and make sure you get Metal Gear Solid 4 on June 12, theres a cure for cancer in every box. So make sure you get that game on June 12.
I've had CoD4 on 360 since day 1, actually since the MP beta, so I'm basically done with that, but I made the switch thanks to MGS4 also.. so I will DEF. pick that up. pre-order sometime in April when the beta is announced

yeah.. i don't understand the "hate".... picked up a ps3 for blu ray.. and some of thier exclusive games....(especially mgs4)... but i also rock xbox live since its established (bunch of my friends are on it too. and live works really well. Have a wii (zelda junkie).

I really don't care who succeds... sony... ms.. or nintendo.... just want to play some good games. I do wish the xbox wasn't such unstable system.. and i do wish sony was a bit cheaper.. and wished they would update that controller....(good design... but want something new).... and the Wii had some third party support.. (but i'd buy the system for zelda alone)

But the ps3 for bluray is worth it alone... (imo)... my dad was looking for one.. and my brother got him to get one just for that.

I do understand though.. being younger... most parents won't let a kid have 2-3 systems.. back in the day .. you had a snes or genisis... rarely do i remember somebody having both.

I recently purchased a 60GB PS3 this January (B-day present for myself). I love it. It gets plenty of work as an upscaling DVD player (which I didn't have) and a Blu-Ray player. When I'm not watching movies, I'm playing COD4, NHL08, and my PS2 backlog upscaled on my LCD HDTV. I feel like I'm finally getting the most out of my Sharp 46 LCD TV now. And there is so much more to take advantage with the PS3 too. Right now, I'm starting to play DIVX video I've downloaded upscaled on my HDTV. I'm excited about in game XMB so I can start using custom music during my games. PS3 is only going to get better with age.
awesome dude!
If you have to trade in any of your games Hastings on Clinton Pkwy gives great trade in values. Also try downloading the demo's from PSN most demos are pretty good but it just depends on what type of game you like. Except the Resistance demo really sucked and the full game is WAAAAAAAAAAAY better. Also you may find some games on there you really enjoy that are only 10$ like Pixel Junk Monsters or Pain.
