Looks neither like powerstone or soulcalibur to me, I got more of a Ergheiz feel from watching the videos. Seems pretty simple, but at least looks nice.

Also, Konami's new artist (the one who did the art for OOE) is really good, and it seems like they had him/her work on this title too.

....which makes me wonder what Kojima is doing!

Doubt they are the same person. This guy is apparently the DeathNote creator. Wouldn't know who is doing OOE but it's much closer to the earlier Castlevania titles on the GBA.

Shipwreck: The Powerstone idea came from IGN. But after watching some footage, I agree in that it doesn't look like Powerstone at all, which was pulled back and really more of an action brawler sort of game than a straight up fighter.

Yes, honestly the best comparison is Soul Calibur minus the grab moves and with the ability to run around in more of a 3D space. You get to pick a classic Castlevania projectile weapon before the fight and that's pretty much the game. Oh and zombies wander around. There's really not much to it.

At least that's the state the game is in currently.

I stopped the second video and became disinterested after hearing "it doesn't matter whether you to a horizontal or vertical swing, it only registers the movement". Or something like that. Either way, that translates to flailing around. It didn't even look like it picked up some of the movements as is.

Better lube up. I don't know where people are getting the Powerstone comparisons because it plays nothing like it at all. We played it and my immediate response was, "So they made Soul Calibur, except crappier, and with Wii motion controls". I wouldn't go so far as to call the game terrible, but it turns into a pretty basic "waving your arm around fest" pretty quickly. Could be fun in short bursts, but it kind of feels like a last gen fighting game.

Unless there is a different mode that plays entirely unlike what is on the show floor, there is no need to ever mention this game in the same sentence as Powerstone ever again.

Edit: Okay, I just read the thing Strell posted from IGN. They are way off base with this one guys, trust me. Just because you can run around the environments a little does not mean this plays anything like Powerstone. I honestly can't believe they made the comparison.

That doesn't bode well for this game then.:)

Are there any fighting games that implement motion control well for the wii? It looks badly implemented in this game from the video. Oh and Simon looks like a Belmont that went to beauty school rather than follow in the vampire slaying family business.

This looks nothing like Power Stone. It seems comparable to most fighting games based on an anime series. Meaning lots of flash and not too much substance but if you're a fan you'll enjoy it. The controls also seem very similar to the Bleach Wii game. I will declare this decent but you must be crazy if you would consider dropping $50 on this.

This game pretty much exist because Konami wouldn't give Igarashi a larger budget to produce the type of game he wanted.

http://blog.wired.co...-wii-fight.html
If Jeremy Parish is right, and this is a description of how Castlevania Judgment truly came to be -- that is, Konami didn't give him [Igarashi] enough of a budget to do anything else -- it isn't especially heartening for series fans. "I have to adapt to the times, but I can't alienate the core fans."

Worst and most disheartening part of the article:

"The saddest thing is watching Koji Igarashi on the E3 show floor, hovering around the Castlevania Judgment kiosk for half an hour, knowing that everyone hates it, knowing that he knows they hate it, then realizing that it's not the game he really wanted to make anyway because his publisher won't give him two dimes to rub together to develop the really awesome games he does want to create."

Yea I don't know why IGN would even compare this to Power Stone. Someone either wants to give this game some unwarranted attention or hasn't played Power Stone. Watch videos of this game and watch videos of the Bleach game, the gameplay looks very similar.

This game looks nothing like Power Stone, kind of like a poor mans SC instead. Its probably going to be lame like Mortal Kombat was on the Wii. Why do I still even keep my Wii? With stuff like this coming out I have no faith in it anymore.

Players will be able to make use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection to play against each other, and can connect with the Nintendo DS game Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia to unlock bonus content in both games.

Sweet.

It you're reminded of Death Note at all by looking at the cover, there's a good reason since Takeshi Obata (Death Note co-creator/artist) is the character designer, and cover artist apparently, for the game.

i believe the only relationship it has to power stone is
1) the arena thingy, where it's not like your typical 3d/2d view fighter [soul calibur/virtua fighter]. you fight in a free roaming environment.

2) second is probably the power ups from barrels and killing the zombies and what not.

other then that it's not really a power stone like game other then what was mentioned above. the game is more like that star wars fighting game included in the star wars forced unleased for wii. you choose your fighters and you are placed in some sort of a free roaming arena. each character has their own special power moves and combos.

Apart from the weapons you can pick up and the stones themselves, that sounds like power stone to me..

Man. Three awesome characters, actually. Except they are stuck in a game that is going to huff more goat balls than the GoatBaller 9000.

Also, wtf is with Grant's design? Sigh. Not everyone needs to look like a 16 year old girl cosplaying a 16 year old boy, every-Japanese-artist-ever.

Comments:

1) The production values - FMV and music especially - are top notch. This bugs the hell out of me knowing that the gameplay itself can't be much more than a button masher. As much as I want to fault Iga and Konami for bastardizing one of my favorites gaming series, I at least have to give them props on making it look damn good in the process. The animations look specatular.

2) Eric Lecarde is the new Bridget.

3) "I may be cute as a button, but I'm tough as nails." Someone alert Lilboo that people are frontin' his lines.

4) Cornell looks like a badass.

5) Grant Dynasty looks terrible, but does look fun to play in a Voldo fashion.

6) I'll probably pick this up when it hits 20 too. It at least looks worth it for the Castlevania fan in me.

7) *Sigh.* You know if that actually worked this into a deeper fighting game, it would be a hell of a lot of fun.
